MISSIONARY COOPERATIVE PLAN SPECIAL COLLECTION
Last weekend Msgr. Jerome Feudjio from the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands spoke at all Masses asking for our support to assist the parishes/programs in his diocese. Due to the extreme heat, we understand that Mass attendance has been low. Due to that, we have extended this special collection through Friday, August 9th. If you are interested in contributing to this collection, please make a check payable to St. Thomas Aquinas and notate “Virgin Islands” on the memo line. Per Msgr. Feudjio, any money donated will assist in the following areas:
Thank you in advance for any support you are able to give!
Welcome Aaron Durocher… As previously mentioned, we are pleased to welcome Aaron as our new pastoral associate. Aaron is assuming the responsibility for supporting and coordinating all our present ministries and developing new ministries that respond to the needs and goals within our parish and beyond. Additionally, he will facilitate Bible Study opportunities and Adult Education Classes. He will be based at St. Basil Chapel. Also, please join us in congratulating Aaron and his wife on the recent birth of their second son, Aiden!

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 4, 2019
CATHOLIC HEART WORK CAMP MISSION TRIP
During the Catholic Heart Work Camp we all learned that there's another side to us than the vague appearance everyone can see on the outside. Rather we all have a giant heart for Jesus on the inside, and everyone one of us dedicated all of our energy and time to help those that needed service. For example, I never knew that I was a good painter until the mission trip. In addition I was blessed to have such a great work team. We were open about everything we did and formed a strong bond. The religious aspect of the trip was completely mesmerizing. I had faith in God but I never thought it was as strong as it was during the entire week. In conclusion, I extremely enjoyed this mission trip and would one hundred percent do it again.
I really enjoyed getting closer with my friends from home, God and new friends. My trip was overall awesome and I loved helping out people in need who really needed help. It made me realize how lucky I really am to have a house with heating, air conditioning, hot showers, electricity, etc. I loved serving God and would definitely love to do this again next year.
This was my second mission trip and it was just as good as the first, if not better. It helped me grow in my faith and help others around the Charleston area. It also showed me how blessed we are to have the simple things that others don’t. The mission trip is always a highlight of my year and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

St. Basil Chapel News
The 5:00 p.m. Mass at St. Basil Chapel resumes on Sunday, September 1, 2019.
EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 4, 2019
We will continue to highlight testimonials from our volunteers who travelled to Charleston, SC as part of Catholic Heart Work Camp. As you will read, lives were changed on this trip, not only for the people of Charleston receiving our help, but for the volunteers who participated. Again, thank you all for your generosity because without you, these faith-filled young adults and chaperones would not have been able to take part in this amazing experience.
August 4 ~ 18th Sunday of Ordinary Time
“…rest, eat, drink, be merry!” Sounds appealing, right! But Paul is wise and kind to caution us as he cautioned the Colossians in the second reading to “Seek what is above… Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly” We are called to be in the world, but not of the world. In fact, our task is to sanctify the world around us. Difficult? Sure. But not impossible – remember, with God all things are possible. This week make a concerted effort to ‘seek what is above.’ Try to add just five minutes to your daily prayer time with God who is just waiting to hear from you.
