CHAPTER 9 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS:Section 906.1.

Portable Fire ExtinguishersPortable fire extinguishers shall be installed in the following locations:1. In new and existing Group A, B, E, F, H, I , M, R-1, R-2, R-4 and S occupancies.

Section 907 Fire Alarm and Detection SystemsSmoke Alarms.Single- and multiple-stations smoke alarms shall be installed in accordance with Section 907.2.11.

907.2.1 Group A. (not required)A manual fire alarm system that activates the occupant notification system in accordance with Section 907.5 shall be installed in Group A occupancies where the occupant load due to the assembly occupancy is 300 or more. Group A occupancies not separated from one another in accordance with Section 707.3.10 shall be considered as a single occupancy for the purposes of applying this section.

The total width of means of egress in inches shall not be less than the total occupant load served by the means of egress multiplied by 0.3 inches per occupant for stairways and by 0.2 inches per occupant for other egress components. The width shall not be less than specified elsewhere in this code. Multiple means of egress shall be sized such that the loss of any one means of egress shall not reduce the available capacity to less than 50 percent of the required capacity. The maximum capacity required from any story of a building shall be maintained to the termination of the means of egress.Without sprinkler system:

Door EncroachmentDoors, when fully opened, and handrails shall not reduce the required means of egress width by more than 7 inches. Doors in any position shall not reduce the required width by more than one-half. Other nonstructural projections such as trim and similar decorative features shall be permitted to project into the required width a maximum of 1 ½ inches on each side.

Section 1007.1Accessible means of egress required.Accessible means of egress shall comply with this section. Accessible spaces shall be provided with not less than one accessible means of egress. Where more than one means of egress are required by Section 1015.1 or 1021.1 from any accessible space, each accessible portion of the space shall be served by not less than two accessible means of egress.

Section 1008.1Doors.Means of egress doors shall meet the requirements of this section. Doors serving a means of egress system shall meet the requirements of this section and Section 1020.2. Doors provided for egress purposes in numbers greater than required by this code shall meet the requirements of this section.Means of egress doors shall be readily distinguishable from the adjacent construction and finishes such that the doors are easily recognizable as doors. Mirrors or similar reflecting materials shall not be used on means of egress doors. Means of egress doors shall not be concealed by curtains, drapes, decorations or similar materials.

Section 1016.1 Travel Distance Limitations.Exits shall be so located on each story such that the maximum length of exit access travel, measured from the most remote point within a story to the entrance to an exit along the natural and unobstructed path of egress travel, shall not exceed the distances given in Table 1016.1.

Section 1027.1.Exit DischargeExits shall discharge directly to the exterior of the building. The exit discharge shall be at grade or shall provide direct access to grade. The exit discharge shall not reenter a building.

CHAPTER 12 INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT:Section 1205.1.LightingEvery space intended for human occupancy shall be provided with natural light by means of exterior glazed openings in accordance with Section 1205.2 or shall be provided with artificial light in accordance with Section 1205.3. Exterior glazed openings shall open directly onto a public way or onto a yard or court in accordance with Section 1206. Section 1205.2.Natural LightThe minimum net glazed area shall not be less than 8 percent of the floor area of the room served.Section 1205.3.

Artificial LightArtificial light shall be provided that is adequate to provide an average illumination of 10 foot-candles over the area of the room at a height of 30 inches above the floor level.

Section 1208.2.Minimum Ceiling HeightsOccupiable spaces, habitable spaces and corridors shall have a ceiling height of not less than 7 feet 6 inches. Bathrooms, toilet rooms, kitchens, storage rooms and laundry rooms shall be permitted to have a ceiling height of not less than 7 feet.

CHAPTER 14 EXTERIOR WALLS:Section 1404.4.

MasonryExterior walls of masonry construction shall be designed and constructed in accordance with this section and Chapter 21. Masonry units, mortar and metal accessories used in anchored and adhered veneer shall meet the physical requirements of Chapter 21. The backing of anchored and adhered veneer shall be of concrete, masonry, steel framing or wood framing.

Section 1404.10.Fiber-Cement SidingFiber-cement siding shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C 1186, Type A, and shall be so identified on labeling listing an approved quality control agency.

Section 1405.3.3.Minimum Clear Airspaces and Vented Openings for Vented CladdingFor the purposes of this section, vented cladding shall include the following minimum clear airspaces.

1. Vinyl lap or horizontal aluminum siding applied over a weather-resistive barrier as specified in this chapter.2. Brick veneer with a clear airspace as specified in this code.

1. ENGAGE A QUALIFIED TESTING AGENCY TO VERIFY EMERGENCY RESPONDER COMMUNICATIONS SIGNAL LEVELS IN

ALL AREAS OF THE BUILDINGS ONCE ALL STRUCTURAL STEEL AND CONCRETE HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED.

2. ENGAGE CITY OF HENRICO COUNTY EMERGENCY RESPONSE GROUPS (FIRE, POLICE, EMS) AND HAVE THEM TEST

THEIR SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT IN ALL AREAS OF THE BUILDINGS ONCE ALL STRUCTURAL STEEL AND CONCRETE HAS

BEEN CONSTRUCTED.

IF SIGNAL LEVELS ARE BELOW COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER'S STANDARDS, THEN THE SIGNALS SHALL

BE SUPPLEMENTED IN ALL DEFICIENT AREAS OF THE SITE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PARAGRAPH BELOW.

PROVIDE A COMPLETE RADIATING CABLE SYSTEM CONSISTING OF COAXIAL CABLE OR EQUIVALENT ABOVE ACCESSIBLE

CEILINGS (PREFERABLY SERVICE CORRIDORS) TO PROVIDE A SUPPORTING CABLE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR THE ADDITION

OF A BUILDING DISTRIBUTION AMPLIFIER TO PERPETUATE CONTINUOUS EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION WITHIN THE

BUILDING(S). THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING THE CABLE EVERYWHERE NECESSARY TO

THE POTENTIAL ADDITION OF A RADIO SYSTEMS ANTENNA. CONTRACTOR SHALL ENGAGE THE SERVICES OF A QUALIFIED

RADIO COMMUNICATIONS CONTRACTOR TO PROVIDE A COMPLETE DESIGN. DESIGN, INSTALLATION, AND TESTING SHALL
