STANET NETWORK SIMULATION
ReporReportstsFFor more than 12 years STANET hasgrown to a market leading simulation tool inGermany. Customers include the utility com-
panies of the largest German cities (i.e. Berlin,Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Hamburg) as well as inter-national gas suppliers or small engineering companies.Well known for stationary simulation of gas, drinking
water and district heating (steam and hot water)STANET now includes also modules for wastewater, electricity, extended period simulation, diame-ter optimization, and fully dynamic gas network simu-lation. Since many years an english version exists(with customers i.e. in Sweden, Netherlands, Slovenia,Poland and Kenya).Network simulation software and standard officesoftware usually do not have much in common.STANET was one of the first simulation softwarethat took the move to Windows and to a user interfa-ce that conforms to well known and established userstandards: Copy & Paste, select with lasso, a zooma-
ble print preview, table windows similar to thoseknown from Excel or Access, context sensitive popupmenus, standard database functions such as filter andsort, exchangeable network files or for example areport generator for fully user defined reports.NeverthelessSTANET is not overloaded with but-tons, toolbars and menus nobody needs. One ofSTANETs greatest benefits is its flexibili-ty and extensibility. A user can change field names, object names, add new tables or new fields to existingtables, he or she can adjust element sizes in fine gra-nularity, assign attribute legends (color, linetype etc.)representing any field. Not to speak of the user de-fined import and export tools. But nevertheless you
can use STANET off the shelve with predefinedsettings.

IMPORT & EXPORT
DData import and export is a key feature in astate of the art application. You may wantto import data from an older simulation
software, from a GIS or you may want to import con-sumer meter data.
One ofSTANETsgreatest powers lies in its
Import/Export Engine: Fully user configurable Any text format, ODBC, DXF,
ArcInfo and MapInfo formats Bi-directional
The main applications of theseSTANETservices are:
Import existing network data Synchronize data with another parallel
running system (i.e. GIS) Export data for further processing
(i.e. AutoCad or Excel)
Thanks to a clear but powerful user interface it is veryeasy to tell STANET where to find what informa-tion: Just select columns in a text window and choo-se a matching STANET field. Or just create a listof matching tables and their fields for ODBC, ArcInfoor MapInfo.Once such a format has been defined, it can be impor-ted and exported. ODBC export may be used toexport simulation results of existing elements to aGIS. DXF exports may be used for further processingin AutoCad.Import consumer meter data and use it as data sour-ce for the simulation.
Meter data containing street codes andhouse numbers can be assigned tonetwork nodes in three different ways:
Spatially by existing houses By street code and start/end
house numbers entered in pipes By street code only
STANET even can automatically create serviceconnection pipes for each house which can be fullysimulated. Thereby STANET will detect housesthat are not supplied in cause of closed valves. Set afilter, copy the contents of the resulting database win-dow to Word and print a serial letter to the concerned
customers.

ll geographical information becomesmuch more reasonable when a map isshown in the background. STANETs
advanced management of background images givesyou simple and powerful access to images of any stan-dard type: Tiff, DXF, BMP and about 30 other rasterformats. The amount of simultaneously displayed
images in a network is limited by availa-ble RAM only. Just select ImportBackground image from the Newmenu, select a file and an appropriateSTANET image layer.Layers of background images can beshown or hidden automatically by scale.Let STANET show an overviewstreet map in a large scale, and switchautomatically to more and more detai-led maps when zooming closer.Have 100 pictures to import? Just selectImport series..., select all files and
have a coffee break.

VARIOUS SIMULATION
MODULES, THE HEART
OF STANET

SIMULATION AND DATA

TThe simulation modules of course make upthe heart ofSTANET. For stationarynetwork simulation (gas, water and
district heating) an own proprietary eliminationalgorithm has been developed that outperformsother simulation models in speed and accuracy.STANET needs as little as 1 second to simulatea 10 000 nodes network. Subnetworks are detectedautomatically and simulated in their dependencies.User defined pump curves and pipe types are astandard feature. Each consumer (or consumermeter) can be assigned to a user defined consumerprofile which defines the relative consumption foreach hour of day. Thereby different load distribu-tions can be simulated or an extended period simu-lation can be started, resulting in tables andtimecharts. Steps of an extended period simulationcan be played back later.Projects can be used to enable or disable networkparts that are planned but still not realized. Just a
few mouseclicks and the network will show its plan-ned state in 2006 with all then realized projects acti-vated. Any simulation can be frozen and replayed ina scenario. Thanks toSTANETs extraordinaryflexible object and field management it is very easyto create calculated table fields such as the differencebetween two scenarios or an existing field in a diffe-rent unit. Want to add a table with graphic objectsto manage trees? Just add a user defined table.Extended capabilities of the simulation include bat-ched fire demand calculation, cost oriented diame-ter and routing optimization, temperature depen-dent consumer profiles etc. Recently STANEThas integrated simulation models for electricity andwaste water as well as fully dynamic gas networksimulation.

AAs with anything else, spatial profile dia-grams are totally user configurable inSTANET. There are some predefined
diagram settings which may be used straight away. Orduplicate and modify a diagram setup by selectingwhich field is going to be displayed in which curve orin which table row under the diagram. To generate a spatial profile diagram, just select thedesired nodes and select the diagram type. Yes, it isthat easy.
