Status of the Transfer of CRYRING to FAIR
Status of the Transfer of CRYRING to FAIR
MSL, 2 February 2009

•March 2008: Letter from FLAIR collaboration to FAIR and Swedish Research Council that FLAIR accepts CRYRING as the LSR.
• June 2008: Discussion between MSL and the Swedish Research Council, where it is agreed that MSL will obtain 30 MSEK to cover the costs of keeping the ring at MSL though 2010, make the necessary modifications, and transfer it to FAIR.
•February 2009: No contract yet between MSL and Swedish Research Council, mainly because of unclear rules about how FAIR is to accept in-kind contributions to experiments (my interpretation). Nevertheless MSL has started to spend the money.

TimelineTimeline
Technical Design Report: Ready summer 2009 (optimistically)
Design of injection and extraction: Until April 2009
Manufacturing (in-house, commercial): Until December 2009
Installations and tests: Spring 2010
Disassembly and transfer: Completed by 31 December 2010
Minor work possible after 2010, such as preparation of new ion-source platform
