Rejoice!
Today has traditionally been called “Gaudete Sunday.” The Latin tag
is derived from Paul’s appeal in the second reading to “rejoice
always in the Lord,” and the Latin Mass text based on that reading.
The irony and paradox of this Christian joy is underlined by the
fact that Paul wrote those words in prison. But from there he could
see the progress of God’s work. Is it obvious to us? We feel that
this is not the time for joy when there is so much suffering and
moral evil. It is interesting, then, that the first reading is from
the prophet Zephaniah, who is almost exclusively concerned with
gloomy visions of Judgment Day. Today the Church selects the only
optimistic text in Zephaniah, in which the prophet has been touched
by the spirit of joy. This, we are assured on all sides, is “the
season of joy.” Let us recapture that feeling of joy in our lives
and reflect it to those who are joyless. Copyright © J. S. Paluch

The Holy Family Sunday, December 30, 2018
The Feast of the Holy Family is a liturgical celebration in the
Catholic Church in honor of Jesus, his mother, and his legal
father, Saint Joseph, as a family. The primary purpose of
this
feast is to present the Holy Family as a model for Christian
families. Since the 1969 revision of the General Roman Calendar,
the feast is celebrated on the Sunday within the Octave of
Christmas, that is, the Sunday between Christmas Day and New Year's
Day (both exclusive), or if both Christ- mas Day and the Solemnity
of Mary, Mother of God are Sundays, on 30 De-
cember (always a Friday in such years).
The feast was instituted by Pope Leo XIII in 1893 and set on the
Sunday within the Octave of the Epiphany; that is to say, on the
Sunday between January 7 through January 13, all inclusive (see
General Roman Calendar of 1960). The 1962 Roman Missal, whose use
is still authorized, follows the General Roman Calendar of 1960,
which has the celebration on that date.
Third Week of Advent
3rd Candle – (pink) The Shepherd Candle or The Candle of Joy
The shepherds received a message of joy!
…and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in
cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room
available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the
fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel
of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone
around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them,
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy
for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been
born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to
you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the
angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest
heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom
his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into
heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem
and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us
about.”

Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ, We continue making
progress in this preparation that the Church recommends during
Advent. Today, we light the third candle in the Advent Wreath, and
because we
have more light we can immediately look around more easily than if
we were in a dark place. That's what this preparation is all about
– to dispel the darkness of sin, to look with faith, to walk with
joy, to know that we can do it and that we can count on the prayer
and support of others. Our preparation for Advent is both personal
and in community, where I contribute with my effort and my
testimony of loving Jesus to enlighten others. Also, looking at the
effort done by the community to show that we wait for Jesus,
encourages us to come together and work in this joyful wait. Here
we have some volunteers preparing the setting of lights and manger
since a few weeks ago. Some others rehearsing songs, for the Marian
celebrations, reflections and services of reconciliation. There is
a whole atmosphere of waiting, and we want that when Jesus comes He
finds our house clean, our hearts prepared and ready for the feast.
We want Jesus to feel welcome, “Who will rejoice over you with
gladness, and renew you in his love, who will sing joyfully because
of you, as on festival days,” says the prophet Zephaniah (3:14–18).
Because we have more light we can see clearly the path that leads
us to a true Christmas, to a willing heart that beats with joy for
feeling closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. This Sunday invites us in
a special way to remain joyful – Sunday of Joy; to remove useless
worries and grow in hope. Do not worry if you can’t afford to buy
the latest phone in the market or the newest gadget in technology.
If you are unable to buy the best present, give whatever you can
but do so with a lot of love and respect. “Rejoice in the Lord
always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be
known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in
everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your
requests known to God.” (Phil 4:4–7) I encourage you to be happy
and full of faith, with a lot of hope and peace. May God bless you!
Fr. Francisco Miramontes
Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the
hour.
(Mt 25:13) Knowing that this world is only our temporary home, why
give such importance to a particular place, work or position? Why
regret the loss of any object--this table or that chair? Do you
imagine that you will be able to take them along with you to enjoy
eternal happiness? How absurd to consider such thing! Many prayers
conclude with the words: "lives and reigns forever and ever." What
hope these words should bring to Christians, but because we have
become so accustomed to them, we give little attention to their
eternal significance. The face of life's innumerable trials and
tribulations, fervently believe in and frequently recite: "I
believe in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting".
Therein lies the secret of Christian courage. From the many people
who spent so much time and money on their beauty and health and yet
who have died nonetheless, we can have some idea of the
"nothingness" of the material world. Resource: The spir itual r
eflections for December come from the book of Cardinal Francis

lugar obscuro inmediatamente podríamos mirar fácilmente a nuestro
presentadas a Dios.” Filipenses 4,4-7. Les llamo a estar contentos
y llenos de fe, mucha esperanza y paz. ¡Dios les bendiga! Padre

Lucas 2:7-15
