Bridge to open by MarchThePassengerRailAgencyofSouthAfrica(Prasa) and the Department of Transportand PublicWorks are working together toimprove transport safety through theWestern Cape’s R70,7 million level cross-ing elimination programme.

Infrastructural improvements at varioussites in Vlaeberg Road, Stellenbosch are set tomakecrossing railway lines safer forvehicles, their passengers, pedestrians and other roadusers. Two farm crossings will also be elimi-nated by constructing underpasses for the ex-clusiveuseof farmers. The level crossingelim-ination programme is expected to be complet-ed in June. The construction of an overhead bridge at

Vlaeberg Road is well under way andwill alsobe completed in June.Motoristswill no longerhave towait for trains to pass.Rail commuterswill also benefit as there will be fewer places

where trains are required to slow down. The Fransmanskloof level crossing is one of

six crossings along the northern corridor tobe eliminated.High fences will also be erected along the

railway to reduce the risk of pedestrian acci-dents.The construction of a pedestrian footbridge

at Lynedoch Station is expected to be complet-ed in March. This will improve safety and re-duce thenumber of commuters illegally cross-ing the railway line. The new service road be-tween Vlaeberg and Vlottenburg will beproclaimed as a provincial road after four lev-el crossings along this route have been elimi-nated.It is expected that the level crossingelimina-

tion programme will improve road safety, have a number of tangible benefits for com-muters, and enhance the quality of rail trans-port in the Western Cape.

The Lynedoch railway crossing is due for completion in March this year.

So byvoorbeeld moetalle kontrakte t.o.v. vaste eiendom skrifte-lik wees. ’n Mondelinge kontrak is in so’n geval nie geldig nie.Wanneer ’n mens ’n kontrak (ooreen-

oor ’n rekening by ’nmeubelwinkel.

bindend.

Proteas bowler Simon Harmer is excited by the new rules under which theVarsity Cricket tournament will be played. The week-long tournament, whichbegins in Potchefstroom today, will see the introduction of a Power PlayPlus, an over in which runs will be doubled. There will also be targets erectedbetween the boundary rope and perimeter fence which yield ten runs shoulda batsman hit them.Harmer believes that these new rules will add excitementto an alreaady bustling format. “The new innovations and rules will spicethings up and get the teams to play exciting cricket, which will keep thecrowd entertained. It’s good to have new rules which add an extra dimensionto the T20 game and will be something that will draw in the crowds,” saidHarmer. The Maties cricket team is also participating in the tournament.
