A Message of ReconciliACTION through Code
The Downie Wenjack Fund, Lynx Coding and the Renfrew County District School Board created a partnership
to empower students to learn about Residential Schools and take action. This authentic learning experience
uses Lynx coding to allow students to express their creativity through this highly engaging platform. Students
used text-based coding to create deeply moving animations, and powerful messages of ReconciliACTION with
the haunting music of Gord Downie.

Brightspace Portfolio - The Tool You Didn't Know You Were Missing!
Brightspace Portfolio is an incredibly powerful tool that D2L has made a lot of improvements and
enhancements to recently. Whether you use Brightspace, Google Classroom or neither, it's likely the answer
to your triangulation dreams for documenting observations and conversations. Want a quick, easy way to take
a picture of student work, record a video, or add an optional audio recording right from a phone or tablet? It
does that. Want to be able to easily add files from Google Drive or Office 365? Check. Want your students to
be able to do all this too and share it with you privately and securely? Done. Organize it all with filters to
review at report card time? You betcha. Option to highlight and share with parents/guardians? Yes! Check out
this session to learn more about this incredibly powerful and under-utilized tool, with different modes to meet
all educators and learners across K-12.

Increasing Engagement in Remote Primary Classroom
I have been with working for the UGDSB Remote Program (Home of the Grand River Otters!) for two years and
our school’s biggest concerns is student engagement in the program (i.e. showing up to class, cameras on and
actively participating throughout the day). Teachers can have varying experiences adapting to online teaching,
as we are continuously reflecting on best practices and many educators struggle to create digital versions of
their teaching practices. Personally, I have experienced much success online and I have discovered best
practices which can be adapted to a variety of age groups.

Transform your Teaching with Hyperdocs!
Hyperdocs are self-contained lesson units that can be used synchronously and asynchronously in remote
learning situations, as well as in a traditional brick-and-mortar classroom. They combine the best elements of
lesson design with a wide variety of digital tools to create units that are engaging, differentiated, interactive
and meaningful. In this workshop, we will cover the main elements of an effective hyperdoc and discuss the
various ways they can be used in any learning environment. We will explore one example, from a student
point of view, pointing out the ways in which it encourages collaboration, independence, and critical thinking,
as well as the variety of assessment options that can be built right into the hyperdoc. No more thick unit
binders on the shelf! Everything in one cohesive paperless slide deck unit! Material students can access from
anywhere! Game-changer!

Use Planboard for Online Lesson and Unit Planning
Attend this session to learn all about Planboard by Chalk - the online application that can bring your lesson
plans into the 21st century, streamline your long-range unit planning and allow you to make
quadmester/semester transitions with just a few clicks.
Planboard gives you the ability to create classes and set up your timetable. And once you set up your rotation
schedule, you’ll always know what you’re teaching and when.
Use your existing lessons, add it to a lesson plan template and assign Ontario ministry standards to map your
curriculum. This is great for your students but also for you during a parent meeting or a teacher appraisal as
well.
You can even upload and embed existing teaching materials and files from your computer or Google Drive to
quickly find that day's lesson resources with just a click.
Planboard can do all this - and more!
