Stephen Lawrence Day

• Fallen Solider by Beverley Knight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNslSdNDtcY

• Stephen’s parents campaigned tirelessly for justice for their son. Doreen Lawrence was awarded an OBE and now sits in the House of Lords. This is an episode of Desert Island Discs where she is interviewed about her life. A fascinating interview about how someone learns to live with loss and injustice.https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01jqb8t

The BBC made this documentary about Stephen’s murder and how the police investigation and the subsequent investigation into the police changed the UK. It is not currently available on BBC IPLAYER but may well be available on youtube. The three parts are extremely difficult to watch but an essential episode in British history. A must see for anyone interested in our society, racism, equality, Law, History & Sociology.Three short films about

Stephen's death and the impact of British race relations are introduced by his brother Stuart. https://bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/citizenship-gcse-stephen-the-murder-that-changed-a-nation/zmncpg8…

Firefly MigrationWe have successfully migrated our Firefly system to the cloud. This should improve the performance of the system during busy times.Students have been sent the new instructions for logging in (the last reminder was sent on 20/01/20 at 7.00am).

Why should I log in to the parent portal? The parent portal gives you access to your child’s timetable, tasks, behaviour logs and attendance as well as access to subject areas containing lesson resources and other important information. In the future we will be sharing trip letters, consent forms and our medical form via Firefly so will need at least one parent/carer in each household to activate their account so they can access these documents easily when required.

If you have any issues with the above, please e-mail Miss Kelly [email protected]

Wellbeing tip of the day

Be in the present

If we take time to be aware of ourselves and be in the present moment, noticing our own thoughts and feelings, and the world around us, we can gain a better perspective. Sometimes this is known as being more mindful.

Be mindful and meditate

Mindfulness and meditation help you to be in the present. Try the mindful breathing video on the ‘every mind matters’ website. It can help you feel more calm.

Etymology of …plateau

• In 1796, English lang. used it to mean "elevated tract of relatively level land,"

• Taken from the French plateau which means "table-land," from Old French platel (12c.) "flat piece of metal, wood, etc

• Now also meaning "stage at which no progress is apparent" is attested from 1897, originally in psychology of learning.
