She graduated from Downtown College Prep (DCP) in 2012 and Brown University in 2017. She will share her extraordinary journey of resilience and perseverance as she thrives in her current role as a Software Developer at Adobe, including ways to support more women in male-dominated fields. Haleema Bharoocha, Public Servant Haleema’s work is rooted in compassion, justice, and service with a goal of mobilizing communities. She facilitates workshops for advocates and organizers on topics including bystander intervention, Islamophobia, racial equity, and gender justice. She will share her lived experience and how she has turned her passion into action. Thank you to our cultural performers showing the talent and diversity of Santa Clara County. SG: Know Your IX: Learning in a Fear-Free Environment, Room 3Maha Ibrahim, Equal Rights AdvocatesYou have the right to feel safe at school from sexual harassment, sex-based bullying and violence. Title IX is an important law that requires schools to make sure students never lose out on the chance to learn because of their gender. Schools must treat students equally, regardless of their gender, and students have the right to complain confidentially if they are not. Come learn the facts about Title IX, what your options are, and where to find valuable resources.

SG: HPV & Cervical Cancer Bingo, Room 4Daisy Garcia, Latinas Contra CancerLearn about the HPV vaccine and your cervical health while playing bingo. Latinas Contra Cancer will share the latest research and health statistics in a fun and interactive way.

SG: STEMinist, Room 5Protima Pandey; Stefanie Brizuela, UC Santa Cruz; Lisa Dominguez, Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley; Dean Laura Hyatt, West Valley CollegeHow does STEM play a role in the life of a young girl? Where are the systems that engage young women in STEM? How do we create mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities that don’t rely on biases and judgement calls about who will be successful in STEM? Beyond coding camps, we don’t hear more about what is needed to engage girls in STEM. Our panel will share experiences, programs, and efforts that have explicitly helped them be successful.

SW: LGBTQ+ SOGI 101, GalleryAustin Davis, Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ AffairsThis workshop will explore sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. Participants will gain an understanding of key terms and definitions while learning about key resources in the community. Participants will also have an opportunity to engage in conversation with the presenter and each other toward designing more inclusive spaces and supports to youth and families.
