She is revising her persuasive text about mice and is listening to feedback given to improve her writing.

Olivia showed kindness towards herself, staff and students last week. When there was a minor problem, she took responsibility for her actions and it hasn’t happened since.

Congratulations Olivia. You should feel very proud of yourself.

A positive relationship with your child’s school makes a great difference

to their education, wellbeing and how they

grow as a person. At Cassilis, we encourage

open communication and involvement from parents.

Pittman Cup is this Friday. Parents need

to drive to Sandy

Hollow and meet us there by 9am.

Come ready to cheer and support your children.

They love it!

Excursion Update

Due to the incredible and amazing volunteers that our school has, the cost of the Canberra excursion is now only $50 per student. This means that if you have paid your deposit than you are ready to go!

Thank you to these following people, who are each very busy, but also know the importance of volunteering. Most of the volunteers do not have children at our school but still wanted to help by cooking food to sell or running the BBQ/canteen/raffles.

• Stacey Anderson

• Fiona Cornish

• Anne-Maree Nairne

• Alicia Piper

• Stella Cornish

• Leanne Hunt

• Terri Cunningham

• Jane (Corey) Evans

• Sophie Anderson (& Janet)

• Riley Wilton

• Kate Horton

I know that the students really appreciated their efforts, we have been doing lots of talking about how lucky they are and how volunteering is really important.

Please take the time to say thank you next time you see someone who has helped your child so much.

Give me some Space.

Last Wednesday, kids across the world took part in the simultaneous reading of a story book. The book was put on a space rocket last October, it got shot into space, it went to the International Space Station, and Dr Shannon Walker and astronauts on the space station read it for everyone! All students loved both hearing the book read by their teacher and by our fabulous astronaut. K/1 students discussed and wrote a sentence about the story and made their own astronaut picture.

Una went into space in a big red spaceship. Digby

Una blasted off into space in her metal rocket exploring the planets. Cooper

Una floated into space because there was no gravity. Tarsha

Una had an astronaut suit with a helmet. Levi

Our seniors had a video conference with Wes Leedham from the Warrumbungle’s Environmental Education Centre. They discussed the progress of their Eco-Schools program.

They then enjoyed watching BTN to catch up on the current events.

Last Monday was National Bee Day. Mrs Nairne brought in honey for students to see. It was beeutiful!

Students were given the task of finding out the length a bee flew from their hive to the flower. Cooper said that his length was 30 blocks longs, and he showed this using the familiar tens frame structure.

Well done to Levi reaching 25 nights. Remember for all our students to read every night to mum, dad, a sibling or pop. It’s the

most important ‘homework’ to improve learning and enjoyment of books.

Students have been learning about the First Fleet in History. Ben enjoyed beginning to construct his ship.

The school was fortunate to have athletics coach, Ernie, come to visit us yesterday. He taught the students and staff some new skills to help prepare them for Pittman Cup.

Digby is an incredible reader and we loved hearing him read Wonky Donkey yesterday.

This week is National Reconciliation Week

Students will be building their understanding with classroom activities. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
