Political parties

The American political system is dominated

by two political parties: the Democratic

Party and the Republican Party. These are

very old parties: the Democrats have been

created in 1824 and the Republicans in 1854.

Political system

The presidential power is organized with the

separation of the three powers:

The executive: the president, the vice

president and the cabinet.

The legislative: the congress divided in the

senate and the House of Representatives.

The judicial: the Supreme Court and other

federal courts.

The president is elected for 4 years (or 8

years with two terms) by an Electoral College

representing each state and the members of

the House of Representatives.

Amendment to the US Constitution. Protestant Christians form the biggest religious

subgroup in the USA, but there are a lot of other religions. This diversity is present

because the USA could be considered as a refuge of persecution for different

The United States has always been a land of immigration.

1. Some 12,000 years ago, the first indigenous people crossed the ice bridge connecting Asia to North

America.

2. In 1492, the French and Spanish were the first to establish settlements for founded their first colonies.

3. Since the foundation of the United States immigration have changed because of laws, governments, hostility

and charity from Americans or prejudice for example.

4. Today, immigration is a challenge in the globalization. The main migrants are Mexicans (at least 12 million of

illegal migrants in the country). It’s a subject very complex mostly since the recent election of Donald Trump

who has shown his attachment for protectionism politic. It’s represents a terrible ethic problem.

5. There are also the migration for studies which represents “The American dream” and permit to developed the

Each year, homes, businesses and communities generate tons of waste. It’s important to conserve natural resources

by committing to reduce and reuse, recycle, and properly dispose of waste.

In the United States, much of energy comes from nonrenewable energy sources like coal, oil, and natural gas. They

try to change with renewable energy just like hydroelectric power, solar energy or wind energy for example.

Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Many activities pollute the air we breathe, including

cars for example. The Clean Air Act, first passed in 1970, was created to clean up air pollution and help protect the

health of all Americans.

Today, mainly thanks to Barack Obama and the last government there is a lot of new laws to regulate pollution and

protect environment. Americans are also concerned by problem with wildlife protection, with water contamination or

with massive use of pesticides.

The recent election of Donald Trump, a Republican creates

tensions between countries like Mexico. In fact, he puts in

place the « Muslim ban » for avoid migration of different

countries just like Irak ,Syria or Libya.

It’s also touched all the coalition just like UE, ALENA and

prevent the development of the TAFTA which is a coalition

between the USA and Europe.

The new president seems very sceptic about environment

and prefers invest in military budget.
