1 | Page TRIO EOC received a grant increase during the 2018-2019 cohort to make services available to 1,043 program participants in comparison to the prior year participant goal of 1,000. By July 1, 2019, active participant enrollment was 1,063 with over 20 participants added to the waiting list for the 2019- 2020 grant year. TRIO EOC Director, James Gibbs, credits the successful program participation to the TRIO EOC Staff that has worked hard to engage with prospective participants during scheduled community outreach events. In addition to, the continued collaboration with the EGCC Admissions and Student Activities Departments which allows relationships to be built and sustained through continuous interaction between the TRIO EOC staff and the EGCC student population. “With all the changes to the grant and improvements in operations for the TRIO EOC Program, I am very proud of my team for their commitment to making sure that we do all that we can to support our participants in their decision to complete or continue their educational journey.” says Gibbs. TRIO EOC received a grant increase

GRADUATE CORNER SHEENA L. THOMAS

Spring ’19: Associate of Arts Eastern Gateway Community College Sheena entered the TRIO EOC Program in the 2016-

2017 grant year. She began her working experience at

Eastern Gateway Community College as a Student

Worker turned Federal Work Study while she completed

her courses for graduation. Sheena participated in

various community outreach and volunteering events

with TRIO EOC throughout her college career. She

became an EGCC Student Ambassador and accepted as

a member of Phi Theta Kappa due to her excelling

grades. Sheena is currently employed at EGCC with the

ASPIRE Program as Support Staff. In her spare time,

Sheena enjoys creating memories with her “crew” and

working within her passion as a DJ, “Dreem”.
