Our Philosophy At Mindy Ellen Levine Day Camp, we believe that a summer camp experience can have positive and lasting benefits for your child. Through making friends, participating in an array of activities, learning new skills, being outdoors, and experiencing Judaism, camp becomes a place where campers have fun, grow, and feel good about who they are. Our campers follow a schedule that takes full advantage of all Shalom Park facilities. Our specialists develop their activity centers so that campers have fun experiences, learn new skills, and accomplish realistic goals. Your child will return home at the end of the day with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. After all, that is what camp is all about. At Camp Mindy, we also encourage the expression of feelings and ideas and work with our campers so that they may develop a sense of respect and understanding for the feelings and opinions of others. As a Levine Jewish Community Center program, the Mindy Ellen Levine Day Camp emphasizes Jewish identity and traditions. Through Jewish life experiences and learning about our history and culture, we instill a special feeling of pride in all our campers. A Jewish camp helps ensure that these values and beliefs are transferred to the next generation.

Camp MindyWelcome!

Dear Camp Families,

Welcome to the Mindy Ellen Levine Day Camp at the Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center!

Summertime is an opportunity for children to play, experiment, celebrate and grow with friends. Our camp programs combine these

pursuits along with caring staff and state-of-the-art facilities, creating a positive, enriching atmosphere in which our children

celebrate Jewish living. We can’t wait to start celebrating our 18th summer! So get ready for a summer filled with friendship,

fun and memories that will last a lifetime. Happy Camping!

Senior StaffOur senior camp staff is comprised of full-time Levine JCC professionals. With years of experience in the field

of summer camping, this closely-knit group works throughout the year to establish standards and develop exciting programs for our campers. This combination of

experience, hands-on management, and programmatic creativity ensures that Mindy Ellen Levine Day Camp is the

best possible program for your child.

Counselor StaffOur staff is comprised of mature, enthusiastic young men

and women who are dedicated to the development of your children and sensitive to their needs. All staff participate in a formal staff orientation before the start of the camp

season. Unit heads and/or the camp director supervise counselors using a hands-on approach that ensures

only the best of care for our campers. The Mindy Ellen Levine Day Camp is always fortunate to have a significant number of returning staff creating an atmosphere rich in

At the Katan Unit of Camp Mindy, your preschool camper will experience a new world of fun! Their days will be spent making new friends, learning new skills, and experiencing new activities in a safe and secure summer environment, while celebrating Jewish ideals in a traditional day camp atmosphere. We offer small groups, dedicated and caring professional staff, and a varied schedule with music, arts and crafts, games and sports, swim lessons, sprayground and more. We encourage the campers to grow and have fun while making them feel safe and protected in an age-appropriate facility. Your preschool camper will be talking about camp for weeks after the summer is over. Give your child the gift of camp – a summer experience that is truly amazing!

Swim evaluations will take place during the first few days of camp. Each tier of classes includes safety training. Z All 6th graders will be placed in the same group, however there may be exceptions. Administrative staff

will have the final say on placement decisions.

Teen Camp consists of a 6th grade group and 7th/8th grade where both groups enjoy 2 days of “traditional”

on-site activities including swimming, archery, and canteen; as well as fun activities just for teens including

Improv, chocolate making, and Color War. Every Friday will be our community service day. Whether we are making

sandwiches for the homeless or cleaning up in the community garden, Friday is our day to help the community. The other

2 days will be spent off-site traveling to exciting places, such as the US National White Water Center, Carowinds, Cajun Canvas.

Go out on a limb and experience new things in Teen Camp! Gesher (“bridge” in Hebrew) is an amazing summer opportunity meant to

“bridge” kids’ experiences of traditional day camp with off-campus excursions around town. This camp will allow your teens to gain independence through

a cross-section of exploring new adventures, meeting new friends, and celebrating Jewish living. If you are looking for the Camp Mindy experience,

but your teen is ready for a change, Gesher is the perfect combination.

Note: Camp is a time to aim for making new friends; accordingly we are not able to honor camper requests.

CIT/LIT Leadership CampsRising Grades 9 & 10Z Acceptance into the CIT/LIT programs is based on an application and interview.

CIT & LIT Programs provide a summer experience that will give 9th and 10th grade teens, who want to work with children, a greater understanding of what it means to be a Summer Camp Counselor. Both programs will take part in leadership building activities, skills development, and fun group trips!

The CIT program will focus on the daily structure of camp and counselor schedules. Teens will be introduced to planning counselor led activities, basic First Aid training, team building activities, circle games, and how to become an effective and successful counselor. They will also be assigned to a group to observe counselors in action.

The LIT program will focus on the daily ins and outs of making camp run successfully. Teens will learn to plan group activities, modify activities for various age groups, child development, guidance techniques and First Aid training.

CITs/LITs will take part in an evaluation based on their performance during the program. That evaluation will be considered when applying for employment as a Junior Counselor for Camp Mindy in future summers.

Athena’s Path Leadership Camp for GirlsGirls, Rising Grades 6-8

Athenas Path I – For first timers Athenas Path II – For prior campers

Athena’s Path camp is a fun time for girls, filled with funny games and activities, cool instructors, and lively discussions- all about middle school. The social drama of middle school can take its toll on academics, self-esteem and attitudes about school. Our games and activities teach girls the tools they need to navigate the middle school social scene and be the leaders of their own lives. Our tools give the girls confidence to solve their own problems in middle school, and beyond! Our high school interns are great role models, make the activities more fun and help the girls feel comfortable. Your Athena’s Path girl discovers that being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean being class president. It means solving problems creatively, doing what she believes is right, and staying true to herself. While she plays games, tries new activities, talks confidentially, and giggles, she will learn valuable social skills!
