TEACH...The Technology Imperative
Rtn. Atul Grover
In our regular meeting on September 30, 2016 President Rtn. Amarjit Singh welcomed all the Rotarians and their spouses. The keynote speaker Rtn. Atul Grover was introduced by Rtn. Kulvinder Singh as his close friend. Atul has MBA and LL.B degrees. He is Consultant and Director at Atulya Consultants, Director Chandigarh Hospitality Association, Former Director KLG Hospitality and Former Director KLG Hyundai.
In his talk supported by an impressive powerpoint presentation, Atul discussed various technologies being used in education, and exploring the one best suited for Rotary's TEACH project. He says, “The Technology Imperative states that if a new technology exists, we need it. Logic and business school lessons do not matter. New technologies are inevitable and essential and they must be developed and accepted for the good of society.”
Technology is providing excellent opportunities through video conferencing and satellite. The electronic devices has made the training systems, including skill development more interesting, interactive and exciting than the conventional classroom learning. All this is cost-effective with reasonable learning models available. There is tremendous potential for adult literacy drives and vocational skill development.
Teachers create their SkillPedia profile for free. They can also post their class-room or online courses/workshops. Students create their login and can post their learning need for free, and get registered for the course. The idea is to create a professional platform, where people can share their knowledge and skills with others. Learning is not something restricted to schools only.
Patentpedia is about patent, a kind of intellectual property. It is the government authority or licence conferring a right or title giving the sole right to exclude others from making, using, or selling an invention. Whenever a person gets the new novel idea, and has no prior art across the world, it is called a patent.
Atul also talked about TEACH program of Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) which aims to improve the quality of students’ education through use of high quality curriculum-based e-learning (audio-visual) modules in local language and thus enhance knowledge and abilities of students.
This program is about T – Teacher Support, E – E-learning, A - Adult Literacy, C – Child Development and H – Happy School.
Electricity or solar power enabled projector/television and a white screen or lime-washed wall is required with a software as per state board, local language and curriculum. This is a low cost program. It is
