Dear Members of the Police Commission:

John Hamasaki's pathetic excuses for posting a dangerous video should not go unchallenged.

Ultimately, Hamasaki wants to gaslight all of you and the community into believing his behavior

was acceptable, and it is the Police Union being "dishonest and disingenuous" by chastising him

for posting a video that was just about an officer "having fun" with his community. Hamasaki

claims it "takes a lot of creative interpretation [for the video] to be read in the way the Police

Union suggested." Well, John, over 40 commenters on your Twitter account, 2 members of the

community during General Public Comment last week, one letter writer, and I didn't need much

creative interpretation to see the video for exactly what you intended ... an opportunity to

display your sincere and odious delight when an officer gets hurt. Your behavior is repulsive,

and many of us in the community have had enough of you and your biased behavior against

police officers.

John Hamasaki claims his goal in posting the video was to encourage officers to have fun in the

community. Commissioners, I assure you there are thousands of other videos that would do a

better job of encouraging officers to connect with their communities. How could John Hamasaki

think officers would be inspired by this despicable video? Of course that was not his intention

behind posting that particular video, and you all know it. John Hamasaki got caught posting a

hateful video, and now he thinks we will all be gullible enough to fall for his ridiculous excuses.

John, your attempt to get people to laugh at an officer's expense fell flat; be a man, admit you

made a mistake, and move on, instead of blaming the Police Union for being against you.

John Hamasaki claims he wants an "upright and respectable Department." That is difficult to

accomplish when one of its Commissioners, a person in a leadership position, acts in immoral

and disreputable ways. Commissioner Cohen, you voted for John Hamasaki to be appointed to

the Police Commission in 2018 when you were on the Board of Supervisors. I cannot believe his

disrespectful behavior toward officers over the last three years is what you were endorsing. It is

disappointing not one of you on the Commission has publicly denounced any of John

Hamasaki's questionable conduct. Your willingness to sit idly by only empowers John Hamasaki

to continue with his irrational behavior. The City deserves better from its appointed officials.
