Sean Gray, a senior at SenecaHigh School, has become the firstlacrosse player and male athletefrom the school to be accepted to aDivision I college for lacrosse.Gray recently committed to Wag-ner University in New York on acombined athletic and academicscholarship.

He made his decision after vis-iting the university for a secondtime and spending a weekend atthe campus in September withthe entire coaching staff andteam. During that overnight visit,he also had an opportunity towatch a full-team practice andmeet most of the players present-ly on the team.

I was looking at four or fivedifferent schools, Gray said. Idecided on Wagner University be-

cause it was a good opportunityto play lacrosse at a Division Ischool and stay close to home.

Wagner is located on Staten Is-land.

Gray has been playing lacrossefor the past seven years andthroughout high school, he haspicked up many accolades. He iscurrently a captain of the teamand has been a four-year varsityplayer.

Throughout his years, he was aFirst Team All Conference, Sec-ond Team All South Jersey De-fense selection (Philadelphia In-quirer) and a South Jersey Playerto Watch (Philadelphia Inquirer),following his junior-year season.

During the last few summers,he has played in various tourna-ments with the BraveheartLacrosse Clubs top high school

This summer has been unusu-ally rainy and wet. The combina-tion of the damp conditionsmakes for great mosquito-breed-ing conditions, and with thatcomes a lot of problems.

Several areas in BurlingtonCounty have already tested mos-

quitoes that have turned up posi-tive for West Nile Virus. Therehas also been a case where a birdwas found with the virus.

For three weeks straight itwas a real problem, Cindy Patti,a Tabernacle resident, said. Kidscouldnt get on school buses, peo-

ple couldnt stand outside or walkto their cars without getting cov-ered in bites.

The county has a mosquitocommission that is trying to com-bat the problem, but there aresome obstacles in the way.

They told me that they use anextract from chrysanthemum, itsorganic, Patti said. Most of theother stuff is prohibited because

it is bad for the environment. But,the stuff doesnt last that long. Itonly last anywhere from 20 min-utes to two hours, and if there isany sort of rain or wind, it does-nt work.

Patti said that the commissiontold her to buy a product from

Walmart to use. It is cMosquito Dunk.

I have to buy the prdo we have a mosquision? Patti said. Withdepartment it falls onbecause they say County has the largesin the state and thelarge areas of water mosquitoes can breed.

Baranowski announces resignatioin letter to committee colleagues

Editors Note: In a letter to theTabernacle Township CommitteeCommitteeman Ken Baranowskiaddressed a recent issue:

son was born. Prior toTabernacle, my wife

both active in the Kresson FireCompany. I held positions ofpresident, captain, 151 assistantchief and fireman of the year.

Wanting to get involved in theTabernacle community, Deniseand I agreed to be den leaderswhen our fist son joined CubScouts.

As is always the case with vol-unteer organizations, I wasasked to take on more leadershiproles as Cub Scout committeechairperson and assistant Cubmaster. In TAA, I coached a bas-ketball team and was assistantcoach on numerous tee-ball,baseball and wrestling teams. Ihave been a member of Holy Eu-charist Church since its incep-tion and a lector for many years.

In 1992, I was asked to run foran open school-board seat and

was elected and started on theschool board that year. I contin-ued on the board for 12 years, serving as president for the lastnine years. I was asked to comeback in 2005 to fill in for a vacantseat when a school board mem-ber was killed in a hunting acci-dent.

After leaving the school board,I was asked to sit on the town-ship Land Development Boardand was appointed to this posi-tion in 2005.

Later that year, I ran, and waselected, to the Tabernacle Town-ship Committee and was re-elect-ed for a second term.

    After my grandson died in

2006 from a genetic disorder, I joined the non-profit Luca JohnFoundation, set up in honor ofmy grandson, as a board mem-ber. One of the objectives of thisnon-profit foundation is to pro-vide financial support for the fu-neral and burial of childrenyounger than 1 who have died

and the families do not have thefinances to provide burial and aheadstone. I continue as a boardmember today.

Recently, the Township Com-mittee and I personally havecome under attack from a mem-ber of the public for acceptinghealth benefits, which have beenavailable to committee memberssince the 1990s. Having been un-employed and having a wife witha serious medical condition, I ac-cepted this option as did manyother committee members beforeme.

This member of the public hasfurther gone on to imply that arecent purchase of a rental prop-

erty in Ocean City was done insome underhanded way to coverour purchase. Nothing could befurther from the truth. A neigh-bor suggested we put the rentalproperty in an LLC to protect us;should something happen to theshore property, our home in Tab-ernacle would not be taken. There was no consideration thatthis would be looked upon as try-ing to hide this purchase or lyingto the public.

I have been involved in thiscommunity since the early 1980s,giving my time and talents tovarious organizations and eventsin many different capacities. Iam very disheartened that one

resident sees fit to try and be-smirch my name and efforts, over all these years in acceptinghealth benefits, which have beenoffered to every committee mem-ber since the 1990s.

When this resident was anelected member of the TownshipCommittee, nothing was done to

eliminate or change the health-benefits option. I guess it was notimmoral and unethical at thattime.

The attacks on me, my familyand this elected committee havebeen relentless, accusatory, mean, filled with many innuen-dos and her conclusions are justplain wrong. But, they have

he only thing missing, well, al-

most the only thing, was Jim

    Gray.

Last week, Gov. Christie took to a

podium to say that, really, no kidding,

hes serious, honestly, hes not running

    for the Republican nomination for

    president next year. Despite repeated

denials that he was interested in being

    president, the governor reportedly

had been lobbied, cajoled and other-

wise encouraged to toss his hat into

    the ring.

So, we had The Decision. Part II.

    Minus commercial interruptions.

Christie, once again, said he is out in2012.

Now, that doesnt mean hes out for-

ever. In fact, wed place a few dollars

that, in 2016, Chris Christie carries the

GOPs banner in the presidential elec-

    tion.

There were too many reasons to not

run this time around. Christie would

be jumping in late in the race, with lit-

tle time to organize a campaign.

Hes not the most popular guy with

some of the most conservative ele-

ments of the party, either. And those

elements have a loud voice. Maybe not

so much in 2016. Christie brings a

    blunt, up-front, pull-no-punches ap-

proach to politics. Love it or hate it, its

    unique these days. That approach

    often resonates with individuals who

arent heavily involved in party poli-

tics more so than party hard-liners.

And, even if he were to get the nom-

    ination, and despite President

    Obamas dropping poll numbers, its

always tough to unseat an incum-

bent as, were guessing, the Republi-

cans might find out next year.

Christie has a good shot at, some

day, being president. But not right

now.His decision to wait four years is a

    wise one.

Cherry Hill mall celebrates milestone birthdayShopping center was firstenclosed mall east of the

    Mississippi when it opened

Long gone are the days of exotic birdsightings, tropical plants and the town-ships junior class dancing to Sonny andChers I Got You Babe across from theStrawbridge and Clothier.

No, the high schools dont host theirproms at the Cherry Hill Mall anymorelike they did in the 60s. But these days, themall is quite the regional attraction, draw-

ing in shoppers and diners from acrossSouth Jersey.

The Cherry Hill Mall has come a longway since Oct. 11, 1961, the day it opened tothe public as the first enclosed mall east ofthe Mississippi River, said Lisa Mangiafi-

co, member of the Cherry Hill HistoricalCommission and co-author of CherryHill: A Brief History.

Last week, the mall celebrated its Gold-en Anniversary with refreshments and aphotographic display of the malls history.

Before the mall opened in 1961, CherryHill, then known as Delaware Township, had already begun to embrace growth and

commercial expansion. As sentiment for a post office grew

along with the population, township offi-cials realized that it could not have a postoffice with Delaware Township in thename because a Delaware Township post

office already existed in North Jersey,Mangiafico and Mathis wrote.

Residents suggested Moriville as thenew name for the township in honor ofMori, but Abraham Brownings farm nearthe Cherry Hill Inn and Cherry Hill Es-tates had increasing appeal in the neigh-borhood.

    Elections letter policy

To be fair to candidates and voters in theupcoming Nov. 8 election, heres how let-ters to the editor regarding the election willbe handled for the next few weeks.

The Sun will publish letters regarding theelection in print editions through Oct. 26.After that, election letters will be publishedonline only.

Were doing this to prevent last-minuteattacks and accusations that leave no timefor responses or rebuttals in print. Theonline format allows for ongoing commen-tary and debate.

We recognize this isnt a perfect system.

For example, responses to letters in theOct. 26 print edition will appear online only, not in print. But, we think this is a reason-able policy that allows the community todebate important issues, while keepingthings as fair as possible for everyone.

Please keep in mind that the usual rulesapply to election letters: Anonymous letterswill not be published, all letters are subjectto editing, avoid letters that are in poortaste or libelous, etc.

Also keep in mind that, to be considered fora print edition, we should have your letterin hand no later than the Thursday prior topublication. For example, if you want yourletter to appear in the Oct. 26 edition, weshould receive it no later than Oct. 20. We

anticipate a large number of letters thiscampaign season, so dont delay. We willattempt to publish as many letters as possi-ble.

If we receive more election letters than wecan publish due to limited space in ourpapers, the letters we publish will reflectthe ratio of letters received. For example, ifwe receive 30 letters supporting CandidateA, and 10 letters supporting Candidate B,we will publish three letters for CandidateA and one for Candidate B.

Please contact your local editor throughthe email address in this paper with anyquestions.

program in the hands of an outfit

that has been handling seniortransportation for years, and hasbeen handling it well.

Both the Countys paratransitsystem and BurLink fixed busroute system are operating undera contract with CT Student Serv-ices of Cherry Hill. That contractis slated to expire at the end ofthis year and freeholders havebeen exploring other transporta-tion options. Paratransit is fund-ed with casino revenue funds;BurLink is financed with a com-bination of federal, state andcounty dollars.

The board had explored re-quests for proposals (RFP) on theparatransit program, to see what

level of service it could secure for

the casino revenue funds it ex-pects to receive in 2012. It had alsosolicited low-bid proposals on theBurLink services.

But, the freeholder board re-jected the responses and bids on

both of those offerings. Instead, freeholders opted to designateSCUCS for paratransit.

Meantime, new bids will be so-licited for all six of the BurLinkroutes, which include a cross-county route from the Delawareriverfront to Pemberton andsmaller local routes, all of whichtie into RiverLine light rail sta-tions.

Garganio said that SCUCSwould take full responsibility forthe countys senior transporta-tion program, including bookingrides and dispatching vehicles. Itwill also prepare the countys ap-plication for state casino revenuefunding and may tap other fund-
