Let us pray. Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, as much as we know it, it is our longing toabsolutely and completely love You without hesitation or reservation. It is our desire to live a life ofinstant obedience, always. Father, You are the only One Who can bring us to the place of grace, to theplace where it is Your face we seek with prepared hearts. Father we ask that You do what only You cando, so that you receive the glory. We ask that You anoint and grace the eyes, ears, and hearts of everyreader. Create in us clean hearts by speaking into our hearts individually.

Father, there is such an urgent and intense desire to do what we are unable to do ourselves, but Youcan achieve through us. You mean more than anything we hold precious. Like David, we pant after You!In Your Word, Father, it says that You will cause us to walk in Your statutes, and keep Your judgmentsand do them. (Ezekiel 36:26-27) Have mercy now, O God, our Father, abundant in grace. Allow each ofus to receive Your living Word this day. Our hearts are before You to remove and replace. We ask thatYou perform the necessary surgery to cause us to live a life that honors and glorifies You. Bring us to anew place and depth of intimacy in You. In the precious and beautiful name of the Lord Jesus Christ!Father, do it according to Your Word, in the name of Jesus. It is written in Your Word that you will purify

Part 1 The

AttractionI grew up in the late 1950s as a child without a mother.

During this time, being motherless carried a very negative socialstigma. There was a saying at that time that went like this, ifyour own mother does not want you, then who does? I donot tell my story for sympathy, because in God I have the victory,

and even more I walked away with the love of God in the veryplace the enemy of my soul came after, my heart.

My parents are wonderful people who were not living for theLord during much of my growing up. Beyond a shadow of adoubt, I know my parents loved me. My father, much to his creditand my gratitude, kept my sister and me. My father was in the AirForce and during his time of duty, his parents and our

grandparents cared for us until they were no longer able. Whilewe had many aunts, uncles and relatives, no one else in ourfamily was able to care for us. It was at this point when we wereplaced in foster care until our father finished his time with the AirForce. It was also a time where we suffered and endured muchabuse and neglect, both emotional and physical. After he wasdischarged, he raised us on his own; he was our Mr. Mom,before it was fashionable. The abandonment by our mother leftus with our father since she felt she had no other way to escapehis abuse. The combination of the damaging, horrific, and tragicacts of my father, on the face of it, did not a good start make. Butbecause God is God, these very tragic situations drew me closerto Him. However, I want each of you to know they have donegreat things throughout the course of my life. Without any

hesitation, I love my parents and am forever grateful to the Lordfor them. One of my earliest impactful scriptures from the Word ofGod says to honor your mother and father, that your days maybe long. This is the first commandment with promise.

(Ephesians 6:2)

Exodus 20:12 reads, honor your father and your mother, thatyour days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God isgiving you.

Deuteronomy 5:16 says, honor your father andyour mother, asthe Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be

long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lordyour God is giving you.

My sister and I were allowed to go to church about three timeswith our grandmother (my fathers mother), before our fatherstopped us. My last time at church I was age 7 and I would notreturn to a church until I was 18 years of age. But it was during

this time that the above referenced scriptureand promise of God burned in my heart since.God is so awesome! God knew what I wouldneed to keep bitterness from having a dwellingplace in my heart. The Word of God is full ofGods promises to those who honor their

parents.

Gods Word does not say to honor your parents only when theydo good! More than the promise of long life, I consider it a

privilege to have been given the grace to genuinely love myparents. It was this early abandonment, and abuse that causedme to ask, how did a little girl no one seemed to want, becomeinvited to the greatest love affair of all time by the One Who is thegreatest? The answer, the circumstances of my introduction to

this world did not represent Gods desire for me to be here. Nordid it determine my level of impact in the world. In the midst ofwhat seemed another tragedy, another life wasted, anotherstatistic, the One who is my God and my Redeemer made Himself

known to me because He desired me, and He desires you too.

My initial introduction to the living God occurred while mysister, Denice, and I watched the movie King of Kings,starringJeffrey Hunter1 as the Lord Jesus Christ. Please take note, thiswas before Christian television became available. However, weall know, and it has been proven repeatedly, God will use what Hewants, when He wants, how He wants. The year was 1961, I was

eight years old and God used television. Amen! That movie hadsuch an impact on my life. The evident truth of the story of JesusChrist was imparted to me as I watched, sitting on the living roomfloor of my precious grandmothers and grandfathers home.Because I had experienced the pain of abandonment and abuse, Icould empathize with Jesus. Sadly, Jesus and I had something incommon. I, too, knew what it meant to be punished without justcause. I knew what it was to be beaten and bruised, rejected andabandon.

With an eight-year old perspective, I thought, They killed Himand He did nothing! Even at this young age, I knew I was notwithout faults, but I wanted to know, why did they kill Jesus? Itwas a question no one around me could answer. But, from thatmoment on, Jesus has been real to me. He has always been,and continues to remain, my Hope. He is the One I waited andlonged for, He was always the One I wanted to rescue me. At five

years of age, Jesus became my hero. He became the Prince Idreamed of daily; and the promise that He would come and takeme to be with Him carried me. I wanted him to be my friend and I

wanted to be his, even when I did not know it was Him that Ineeded most.

Some might say it was not a proper introduction, but this is

when I met the Savior. This encounter began my attraction to theLord Jesus Christ. Unknowingly, it also marked the beginningof my answer to the call to intimacy and a prayer journeyleading to a life of surrender. On the inside, I responded to theinaudible, yet heartfelt, invitation from the Savior to be His. All thequestions were removed and He personally introduced Himself tome. I received my first watering from the One who is a drink thatcauses me to never thirst again.

Now, who said television serves no good purpose? For me,an eight-year old girl, it led to an eternal, life-changing encounter

one among many! When God revealed the Lord Jesus Christ tome as an eight-year old girl, I wanted to be His friend and that hasnot changed. Little did I realize, He responded to the yes of myheart. He came the moment my heart cried out. When no onecould answer, He did! In that moment, the consummation of ourcovenant was initiated. He began working, planting, and wateringthe garden of my heart to produce a fruitharvest of His making.This is where God began the relationship and romance of prayerin my heart, and this is where it will never end. From this pointforward, with limited understanding, prayer became a part of me,

like breathing.

All that the Father gives me will come to me,and the one who comes to me I will by no

means cast out. John 6:37

It would be many years of running and searching, falling downand standing up. Much preparation of the heart was neededbefore I would begin to understand what a precious gift the

romance of prayerwas and is whether spoken audibly or fromthe heart.

At the time, I did not realize my heart had a voice and a mind.

Today, I do. There is such power, good or bad, in the thoughtand language of the heart. The word of God tells us, as a manthinks in his heart, so is he . . .. (Proverbs 23:7a)

Before there is the audible release of the words of our mouth,there is the spoken language of the heart. Without the slightestaudible whisper, God hears the language only He can hear - thelanguage of the heart. This place of romance is where God

instructs us in the language of His heart. It is a gift born of grace!God offers us a perpetual invitation to intimacy. He constantlycalls us to His Throne Room! What a wonder, this God-given,unshakeable desire to seek the Lord and spend time with Himalone. (Genesis 6:5 - 27:41) As I said earlier, this was thebeginning of the attraction and God is absolutely irresistible!There is no greater place than Gods presence. Psalm 91:1-16says, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shallabide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD,He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler andfromthe perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, andunder His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be yourshield and buckler.

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, norof the arrow thatflies by day, norof the pestilence thatwalks in darkness, norofthe destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall

I did not realize the relentless pursuit of the enemy would driveme closer to the Lord, I did not realize then, all things worktogether for my good. Here's the deal, the presence of enemiesis the evidence, no the guarantee that there is a prepared tablewaiting for you. Do not let the presence of an enemy keep youfrom sitting at the table prepared for you, by Gods grace, Iunderstood that I must search for, seek for, run after, and chaseHim! I also did not know that the love affair of prayer would be

where the chase becomes the embrace. I cannot promise youthat reading this book will change you, because we read manybooks and still are not changed. The ability to be transformed bythese pages will be up to you. But I can encourage you with this,He is worth the pursuit!

Let us pray. Father we ask as humbly as we can, yet withurgency, that you revive our hearts and rekindle our love for You.Let our love for You burn without ceasing! We ask that You grace
