MASTERY • Author/leader in the development of a CDM Smith standard of practice and/or guideline,
• Developer of widely used technical tool.
• Appointed by firm as a technical leader in a specialty area.
• Called upon to solve the most complex technical problems.
• Manages the execution of the firm's most complex tasks in area(s) of expertise within budget and schedule parameters, often using resources from multiple offices.
• Lead practitioner, or equivalent for multi- unit/location/discipline program (i.e., the firm's largest and most complex projects or programs).
• Active member of firmwide strategic market task force or appointed as division market leader.
• Assists in contract negotiations and advises project teams.
• Achieves sales targets in market area as shown in "Thanker/Thankee" report.
• Has history of identifying technical innovations/project approaches that lead to project wins.
• Delivers papers nationally in direct support of CDM Smith market strategy.
• Is routinely requested to attend sales/marketing calls with existing and potential clients.
• Is sought internally as national expert.
• Skills provide CDM Smith with distinct advantage over the competition.
• Leads technology transfer (e.g., through activity on the discipline forum, lunchtime seminars, etc.).
• Mentors mid-level staff.
• Has demonstrated success as a mentor.
• CDM Smith University course developer and instructor,
• Discipline leader or subdiscipline leader.
• Embraces diversity,
• Provides quality input into PFDFs and appraisals of technical staff.
• Conducts quality appraisals as requested.
• Presents at national conference(s)
• Directs submittal to national awards competition and wins award.
• Called upon externally by clients/prof. organizations and/or journals to speak about the most complex issues in his/her area of expertise.
• Lead author of peer-reviewed paper, trade journal article, or conf. paper.
• Principal investigator on industry-funded research proj. (AWWARF, WERF').
• Leader (i.e., Tech. Advisor, Lead Practitioner, QA Officer, or equivalent) of national award- winning project.
• Technical committee chair of national organization.
• AAEE certification, or equivalent

• Holds required professional engineering (PE) license in home state or required state.
• Has an MS or PhD.
• Successfully manages project tasks to completion.
• Local/unit-level lead practitioner or equivalent,
• Has completed PM1 courses and passed exam.
• Recognized as key sales/marketing resource at the unit or local level.
• Serves as area market leader or some equivalent position.
• Provides consistent, cost-effective and responsive solutions to proposal team.
• Assists with contract negotiations.
• Understands and supports CDM Smith's negotiations and wins processes.
• Involved in continuing ed. activities.
• Subdiscipline leader.
• Contributes content to discipline site.
• Co-authors papers/presentations with junior-level staff.
• Serves as mentor to junior-level staff who have declared themselves to be oriented toward the Technical Specialist focus of the Degreed Technical Professional path.

• Still has wide range of technical focus.
• Holds necessary professional registration(s) or certification(s).
• Qualified by education to function at this level
• Completes assignments on time and within budget.
• Completes PM fundamentals and taking PM1 training modules.
• Participates in sales calls.
• Works as directed on proposals.
• Helps to prepare capture plans.
• Participates in discipline forums.
• Connects with entry- level staff that will likely pursue the technical specialist path (e.g., entry-level PhDs.).
• Serves as mentor to new junior-level staff.
• Embraces diversity.
• Participates in and presents at local technical society meetings and conferences.
• Coauthors paper and/or technical professional publications/forums.
• Member of appropriate professional organization/societies.
