Term 4 Issue 2 7 November 2019
Dear Parents / Carers What an eventful time we have had in our area with the recent bushfires. The ongoing smoke and haze this week has affected how we use our playground, for the wellbeing of all students. Could I remind all families with students who carry their own asthma puffer to please ensure it is loaded and packed every day. Please be assured, however, that we do have spares in our first aid supplies if needed. End of Year Activities We are almost halfway through this term now with our end of year activities officially underway. This is always an enjoyable and busy time! The Year 6 Fun Day on Tuesday was a great success with all students enjoying the treats and activities organised so well by our senior students. Money raised on this day is put toward the Year 6 Farewell and annual gift to the school. Maths Success! All Stage 3 students recently participated in the Newcastle Permanent Maths Competition. This is a challenging assessment of numeracy and problem solving skills undertaken by more than 19 000 students across regional NSW. This year, Hallidays Point performed particularly well with 25 students achieving merit certificates and 10 distinctions. Well done indeed! Term 4 Assemblies A reminder to all of our families of the reduced number of weekly assemblies in the hall this term, as an ongoing result of the extensive building works during Terms 3 and 4. All class awards will still be presented on a junior/senior alternate week basis at
each Monday’s daily assembly under the COLA. Merit Certificates will also be handed out at this time. Our Combined Assembly in Week 5 will proceed as usual in the hall. Best wishes to all for a lovely fortnight.

Students across the school have had the opportunity to participate in lessons around respectful relationships with peers. Students discussed the impact their words and actions can have on others, and explored how that relates to our school expectation of 'Caring' and 'being kind and respectful to others'. Next week, we will continue with the theme and focus on speaking respectfully to adults. Newcastle Permanent Mathematics Competition Stage 3 students recently participated in the Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition. The annual mathematics competition is in it’s 38th year and open to regional New South Wales schools. This year, the competition attracted almost 19 000 students from 340 schools. Well done to all who participated. Pictured below are Merit and Distinction recipients. Congratulations. Annette Barber

On Thursday 24 October, the Waste Warriors organised lunchtime activities for ENVIROWEEK. The students were able to choose various activities to participate in, including Dot Painting, Australian Bird Count, Tree Observing and Making, Take 3 for the Sea Waste Net, Scavenger Hunt, T-shirt Bag Making and Succulent Planting. The Waste Warriors were responsible for planning and conducting activities. A great effort and super fun while learning about our environment.
