Why I Like the Media Center, by fifth grader Morgan Johnson My school’s media center is cool. I find everything I’m looking for. It comes in handy like if I’m just looking for something to read or if it’s for an essay. The library teacher helps too. I love it there. Why I Like the Media Center, by fifth grader Tristan Holmes I like the media center because it has lots of books that people can read. The media center is for learning and I like that. There is a computer lab you can take an AR test on and go to cool kid sites. The thing I like most about the media center is it gives you a warm feeling.

Hope Street’s library is a multi-functional gathering room. Classes are held in the library four hours a day; teachers bring overflow students into the library to complete online research; small groups are sent at different times during the day; individual students arrive to work independently; students and teachers come for resources or to request interlibrary loan.

“This is my entry for the library PowerPoint. It might not be the best, but it was made by three 5th graders who I sometimes have trouble with. They came to me one day with the poster without prompting, so I just have to use it.“ Janet Baldwin, Meadows Media Center

Part of the “before school” group of boys that frequent the Jardine Library. They had 30 seconds to find a favorite book they’d read. There were moans because so many favorites were checked out.

Middle School Media Specialists facilitated reading groups who participated in an author visit sponsored by the Topeka and Shawnee County Library. Here is Jardine’s group and author Jacqueline Woodson.

And finally… THANK YOU!

The students at Avondale West and Shaner want to thank the school board for all they do to equip our library with books of various kinds. With these books the students are provided with a wide variety of resources to meet the ever expanding range of learning styles. They, also, are able to investigate areas of personal interests and expand their imagination.

Thank you, again, The students at Avondale West and Shaner
