Exterior design elements like the lip at the bottom of the front bumper, the curvature of the A-pillar, and the garnish on the side of the rear spoiler combine to give the Tucson a drag coefficient of only 0.33.

The lower the drag coefficient, the easier a vehicle can slip through the air pushing against it. Tucson has one of the lowest drag coefficients in its segment.

COMFORT: Less drag means less wind noise on the inside, for a more comfortable interior environment.

PERFORMANCE: Less power needed to propel the vehicle through the wind.

ECONOMY: Less power means less fuel is needed to propel the vehicle.

Tell a Story: One way to demonstrate the advantages of a low drag coefficient to a customer is with a paper airplane. Make one with a sleek, tapered nose and let your customer launch it. When the nose is tapered and sleek, the plane flies through the air. Then, fold or crumple the nose and repeat the demonstration. When the plane is not as aerodynamic, it drops to the ground.

Projector headlights with LED accents (SE)

High-Intensity-Discharge lamps make light through an electric arc, rather than a burning filament. Compared to a traditional tungsten-filament bulb, they’re able to make more visible light for every unit of electric power they consume.

Dynamic Bending Light rotates the projector as the driver steers.

ECONOMY: HID bulbs are more efficient.

APPEARANCE: The wide range of exterior colors gives customers a choice to personalize the exterior of their Tucson.

Tell a Story: The exterior colors for Tucson were inspired by art, nature, fashion, interior design and other sources. Ruby Wine, for example, was inspired by the rich reds of contemporary runway models’ lipstick, while Caribbean Blue was drawn from the classic hue of the sea.



Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI)(Standard)

Premium system usually found on more expensive vehicles.

ECONOMY: Efficient use of fuel and better fuel economy, without the premium price.PERFORMANCE: Better performance and cleaner exhaust emissions because more of the air/fuel mixture is burned.

Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT)(Standard)

Very precisely controls when the intake and exhaust valves open and close. Tucson’s engine “breathes” differently depending on operating conditions.

Compare to trained athlete:• During a marathon: needs to breathe in and

exhale more oxygen and keep it up over a long time

• During a sprint: needs maximum oxygen for a short period

• Walking: needs less, in a steady supply• Standing still: needs very little

PERFORMANCE: Better off-the-line and passing acceleration.

ECONOMY: More efficient operation, especially while cruising, leads to excellent fuel economy, which helps to reduce the cost of ownership.

2.0-liter GDI DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine(SE)

Unlike a traditional fuel injection system, gasoline direct injection (GDI) places the fuel injector inside the combustion chamber of each cylinder, instead of in the intake runners. This means that each cylinder gets precisely the amount of fuel it needs, depending on whether the driver is idling, accelerating, coasting or braking.

Delivers 164hp @ 6,200 rpm and 151 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4,000 rpm.

ECONOMY: Efficiency.

PERFORMANCE: Betterperformance and drivability.

1.6-liter turbocharged GDI DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine(Eco, Sport, Limited)

More compact single-scroll turbocharger results in mass reduction.

The peak torque rating for most engines is at a specific engine speed. The Gamma engine has a flat torque curve. Its peak torque, 195 lb.-ft., is available from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm, a wide range of engine speeds.

ECONOMY: Weight is the enemy of fuel economy; reduced mass equals improved mileage.

PERFORMANCE: Delivers the fun and responsiveness of a manual transmission without having to operate a clutch pedal.

Active Cornering Control can distribute the engine’s torque from left to right as well as from front to rear, to make sure the wheel that has the most grip gets the most power.

Active Cornering Control also applies braking to the inside rear wheel to improve cornering performance.

SAFETY: Excellent traction in all slippery road conditions.

Tell a Story: Use a non-automotive example to bring a technical feature to life. For instance, Active Cornering Control can be compared to paddling a canoe. Imagine the boat is moving forward and you drag the paddle blade in the water at the left rear of the boat as your partner paddles forward on the right side of the boat. The front of the boat will immediately turn left. Active Cornering Control does a similar thing—it applies braking force to the inside rear wheel and power to the outside rear wheel, to improve cornering.

Aluminum is lighter than steel, so alloy wheels reduce the unsprung weight of the vehicle—the amount of weight that is below the suspension’s coil springs. The lower the unsprung weight, the more smooth and stable the ride.

CONVENIENCE: The ride is smoother and more comfortable with less unsprung weight.

PERFORMANCE: The car is more stable and the handling more responsive.

Tell a Story: Have your customer run a hand over a wheel opening of the Tucson, as you point out that they’re not perfectly round. Tell a Story: The interior of the Tucson was designed here in the United States, at the Hyundai Design & Engineering Center in Irvine, California. The shapes of the instrument panel were inspired by the iconic Terminal 5 at Kennedy International Airport in New York. Terminal 5 was designed by legendary architect Eero Saarinen (who also designed the famed Gateway Arch in St. Louis). Saarinen himself was inspired by the image of a bird in flight. The result? A fresh, contemporary look that emphasizes the spaciousness of the Tucson’s interior.

SAFETY: Helps maintain steering control in emergency stops.

SAFETY: Provides better braking control especially when the vehicle is loaded with cargo.

Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert1

(Sport and Limited)

Blind Spot Detection operates when the vehicle is traveling over 19 mph. This technology uses radar sensors located in the rear bumper that measure the relative position and speed of vehicles located up to 230 feet behind and to the side of the Tucson.

When activated, a lighted indicator on either side mirror will flash to warn the driver that another vehicle is in the car’s blind spot.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert works when the vehicle is in reverse and is operating at speeds of less than 6 mph. System uses the rear radar sensors, and warns the driver if cars are approaching from the side when backing out of a parking space.

SAFETY: This is a great feature for any driver to have, especially in states where motorcycles can lane-share with other vehicles, or in places with lots of traffic.

SAFETY: Rear radar sensors will help detect vehicles that are not picked up by the rearview camera, to make backing up safer and less stressful.

Lane Change Assist2

(Sport and Limited)

When Blind Spot Detection is activated, Lane Change Assist uses radar sensors in the rear bumper to measure the closing speed of a vehicle in the adjacent lane. If the driver activates the turn signal and the system determines that changing lanes is not safe, it will warn the driver with both an audible and a visual alert.

SAFETY: Works in conjunction with the Blind Spot Detection system to provide an added measure of driver assistance.



Rear Parking Sensors3

(Limited with Ultimate Package)

Uses warning sensors embedded into the rear bumper. When the system is turned on and the vehicle is in reverse, these sensors produce a warning sound for the driver if the rear of the car gets too close to a stationary object.

SAFETY: Helps prevent vehicle from contacting objects like poles, columns or other parked cars.

Lane Departure Warning4 (Limited with Ultimate Package)

The front camera, mounted behind the inside rearview mirror, captures images of the lanes ahead of the vehicle and recognizes the lane markers. At speeds above approximately 43 mph, if the system detects the vehicle is drifting from its lane without the turn signal being engaged, it activates an audible tone and a warning light on the instrument panel.

SAFETY: Alerts the driver if the car begins to drift across the lane without using the turn signal.

Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection5

(Limited with Ultimate Package)

System uses both cameras and radar sensors. If a collision is imminent and the driver does not react, the system deploys Automatic Emergency Braking. If the vehicle is traveling between 5 and 50 mph, the system can apply full brake force stopping power, giving drivers an added element of safety and confidence. At speeds above 50 mph, the AEB system only initiates partial braking. This is to prevent unintended full braking to a stop in the middle of the highway.

SAFETY: Can brake the Tucson automatically when the system detects an imminent collision with another vehicle, an object or a pedestrian.

guard, a bike stand, etc.• The rear bumper is damaged, or the sensor is out of the original default position.• The vehicle height gets lower or higher due to heavy loading in a trunk, abnormal tire pressure, etc.• The vehicle drives in inclement weather such as heavy rain or snow.• There is a fixed object near the vehicle, such as a guardrail.• A big vehicle is near such as a bus or truck.• A motorcycle or bicycle is near.• A flat trailer is near.• If the vehicle has started at the same time as the vehicle next to you and has accelerated.• When the other vehicle passes at a very fast speed.• While changing lanes.• While going down or up a steep road where the height of the lane is different.• When the other vehicle approaches very close.• When a trailer or carrier is installed.• When the temperature of the rear bumper is high.• When the sensors are blocked by the other vehicles, walls or parking-lot pillars.• When the detected vehicle also moves back, as your vehicle drives back.• If there are small objects in the detecting area such as a shopping cart or a baby carriage.• If there is a low height vehicle such as a sports car.• When other vehicles are close to your vehicle.• When the vehicle in the next lane moves two lanes away from you OR when the vehicle two lanes away moves to

3. Important: Point out to your customers that the rearview camera is not a safety device. It only serves to assist the driver in identifying objects directly behind the middle of the vehicle. The camera does not cover the complete area behind the vehicle. • Never rely solely on the rearview camera when backing up. • Always look around your vehicle to make sure there are no objects or obstacles before moving the vehicle in any

direction to prevent a collision.• Always pay close attention when the vehicle is driven close to objects, particularly pedestrians, and especially

children.• Always keep the camera lens clean. The camera may not work normally if the lens is covered with dirt or snow.

4. Important: Point out to your customers that the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) may operate prematurely even if the vehicle does not depart from the intended lane, or the LDWS may not warn you if the vehicle leaves the intended lane under the following circumstances: • The lanes ahead are not visible due to rain, snow, water on the road, damaged or stained road surface, or other

factors• The brightness outside changes suddenly such as when entering or exiting a tunnel• The brightness outside is too low such as when the headlamps are not on at night or the vehicle is going through a

tunnel• It is difficult to distinguish the lane marking from the road surface or the lane marking is faded or not clearly

marked• Driving on a steep grade or over a hill, or when driving on a curved road• When light coming from a street light or an oncoming vehicle is reflected on a wet road surface such as a puddle in

the road• The windshield or the LDWS camera lens is blocked with dirt or debris


5. Important: Point out to your customers that the Automatic Emergency Braking system is designed to detect and monitor the vehicle ahead or detect a pedestrian in the roadway through radar signals and camera recognition. It is not designed to detect bicycles, motorcycles, or smaller wheeled objects such as luggage bags, shopping carts, or strollers. The sensor may be limited when:• The pedestrian is not fully detected by the camera recognition system, for example, if the pedestrian is leaning

over or is not fully walking upright• The pedestrian is moving very quickly or appears abruptly in the camera detection area • The pedestrian is wearing clothing that easily blends into the background, making it difficult to be detected by the

camera recognition system • The outside lighting is too bright (for example, when driving in bright sunlight or in sun glare) or too dark (for exam-

ple, when driving on a dark rural road at night)• There is an item similar to a person’s body structure• The pedestrian is small• The pedestrian has impaired mobility• It is difficult to detect and distinguish the pedestrian from other objects in the surroundings (for example, when

there is a group of pedestrians or a large crowd)

Never try to test the operation of the AEB system. Doing so may cause severe injury or death.

With the Proximity Key in the driver’s possession, the tailgate can be opened automatically; to arm the system the driver must leave the proximity zone (3 feet) for at least 15 seconds; when the driver returns with the Proximity Key and stands behind the vehicle for at least three seconds, the tailgate will open automatically.

CONVENIENCE: Makes loading and unloading easier by not having to set bags or parcels down, without needing a key, or releasing it manually.

SAFETY: To avoid possible injury, an alert will sound and the hazard lights will flash prior to the tailgate opening.

Tell a Story: Use props to illustrate points vividly. For example, have a couple of bags of packages or groceries handy. Have your customer hold them while you describe how awkward it is to fumble for a key in your pocket, or kick your foot under the bumper, in order to open a tailgate while carrying parcels.

Integrated dual-member rear wheel housing

Like a corrugated box, the wheelhouse has two pieces, for greater strength and insulation from road noise than a one-piece housing.

The new design decreases the weight of the wheelhouse assembly by 6% and increases its stiffness by 109%.

COMFORT: Road noise is reduced dramatically, while ride comfort and vehicle handling are also improved.

Tell a Story: The inside of a wheel well is like the inside of a bell. When road debris hits it, it reverberates the same way a bell does when struck by a clapper. But Hyundai’s world-first dual-member rear wheel housing effectively adds a layer of insulation between the “bell” and the inside of the Tucson, for a quieter ride.
