Thousand Oaks Rotary

Minutes of Meeting

June 15, 2017

Susan Murata opened the meeting with the Inspirational Moment and a salute to the Flag. She congratulated those of us who were born in the 1930’s thru the 1970’s for surviving, then reminded us of the “simple” and even “dangerous” ways we did things “then” and the differences between then and now.

Tony Kourounis took over and conducted the meeting, as Robert Bianchi is out of town. He led us in singing God Bless America.

Dave Burns introduced our guests today. The visiting Rotarian was Jill Haney from Simi Sunset. Our guests were Matt Lallo’s wife Teresa; Mary Stec, guest of Carol Robinson; Red Stanley, guest of Steven Stanley; and Daniel Home, guest of Natalie Yanez.

Thousand Oaks Rotary

Minutes of Meeting

June 22, 2017

For the Inspirational Moment Patricia Jones shared the story of an

old man with sons who were always in discord. The old man pre-

sented a bundle of sticks to his 1st son and asked him to break the

bundle of sticks. He tried and tried, but was unsuccessful. He then

presented them to his 2nd son who asked him to break the bundle of

sticks, who was also unsuccessful, as was his third son. His 4th son

took the bundle and broke the bundle one stick at a time. The 4

brothers never fought again, since from this lesson they learned

that is easy to break sticks one at a time, but that unity is strength.

As Rotarians, we are stronger if we work together.

Ed Jones introduced visiting honorary member Skip Roberts and

Rotarian Nike Richardson from the Camarillo club.

President Bianchi announced the passing of John Newhouse, Dis-

trict Governor Assistant. Celebration of John’s life will be held on

Friday, June 30 at Westminster Westlake Village, at 1:00. Recep-

tion will be held at the family home 6128 Braemar Circle, Agoura

Hills. He also mentioned that there was a joint Board meeting on

Tuesday evening, and how proud he is of his board. He then pre-

sented Ronnie Stone with his blue badge
