Lisa Hutchinson
“I didn’t consider University after A-Levels because I knew higher education wasn’t for me. I wanted to do something that would allow me to develop business skills, get my qualification and have hands on experience whilst earning a wage at the same time. The apprenticeship has given me confidence, I’ve developed my skills and learned how to be more efficient and manage my time. I’ve taken on a lot more responsibility and made some lifelong work relationships and friendships. Unilever has a great development culture; there are training schemes, seminars and so many senior people to learn from. It’s a great way to get hands on experience and further your career!”
Father & son, Jim & Josh Carew
“Josh has quickly developed into a confident and
committed young man who knows his destiny is in his
own hands. A Unilever apprenticeship is truly a strong
alternative to university to provide a solid foundation for
future professional development and employment.
The company has a solid approach to mentoring their
youngsters during their early career, giving parents or
guardians an added level of comfort that their youngster
is in safe hands!”

reducing our environmental impact

An R&D apprenticeship at Unilever enables you to put your science education, passion and curiosity into practice whilst gaining practical experience in one of our global R&D centres.
We offer a recognised apprenticeship programme which leads to a full BSc Degree in Chemistry.
R&D apprentices work on developing and enhancing some of the world’s leading home, personal care and refreshment brands. Programmes are typically 4 years.
SUPPLY CHAIN & ENGINEERING
APPRENTICESHIPS
Getting a delicious ice cream like Magnum into the hands of a customer in the right condition at the right time (and the right price!) is very much at the heart of what we do in Supply Chain.
We offer a recognised apprenticeship programme in either Engineering or Manufacturing.
Supply Chain apprentices will see first-hand what it takes to get our products from the factory to our customers around the world.

EY
Apprenticeship
Strategy
The back story …
In previous years EY chose not to adopt an
Apprenticeship model for the following reasons:
We felt it was
inappropriate to take
Government Funding in
times of austerity for
students we would hire
and train anyway
We wanted to retain
greater flexibility to
create our own school
leaver programme,
without restrictions or
minimum requirements
Onerous vocational and
administrative
requirements, including
regulation by Ofsted
A negative brand
perception of
‘apprenticeships’ by our
target students
What has changed…
Funding requirements passed to end user – the
employer – via an Apprenticeship Levy
Apprenticeships designed by employers to
achieve a more attractive proposition (through
‘Trailblazer’ committees)
Apprenticeships to be available across all
sectors, at all levels, including degree and
masters level
Government Goals and
Policy
Exit from the EU
Digital Disruption
EY & Wider World
Widening Access, Diversity
and Inclusion
Perception of Apprenticeships
Schools held to account for the
numbers of students going into
apprenticeships
Apprenticeship
Programmes –
Our EY Proposition
The EY Apprenticeship proposition …
EY Business Apprenticeship:Introduced for 2017 intake
Graduate Apprenticeship :Consider for the future
Change our existing programmes
Degree Apprenticeship
programme:Potential for trainees to obtain degree
whilst completing EY apprenticeship
e.g. Digital industry apprenticeships
Other Apprenticeship
Programmes:Opportunities for apprenticeships to be
offered to trainees and current
employees not eligible for our
traditional school leaver or graduate
programmes
New introductions
Questions to consider…
Will tomorrow’s
leaders all have
degrees?Will you stop
learning when you
start earning?
Is a head start
sometimes the
best start?
Do good things
always come to
those who wait?How can
planning today
take you further
tomorrow?
How far can
you go
without a
degree?
