She teaches the Monday/Wednesday Yoga class at the Oak Harbor Senior Center through North End Fitness. Yoga classes started several years ago with six people, It has grown to nearly twenty-five students during the last two years since North End Fitness has sponsored the Center’s exercise program. Class members Margaret and Claude Dilly have attended yoga for the last eight years, Suzanne McCrea six years; Diane Pierce five years. Tom Piper and Alan Swan for three. Several others range from a couple of years to two months. All agree they attend to keep fit. “I started yoga to relieve stress,” commented Diane Pierce. One yoga student, who was taking medication for high blood pressure, saw great results after two and half months. When asked by her doctor what she was doing different, contributed it to yoga, consistently two times a week. THE WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS

“The Curious Savage,” A Comedy by John Patrick, opens Friday, April 6 at the Whidbey Playhouse, 730 S.E. Midway in Oak Harbor and closes April 22. Show Dates are April 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15, *18, 19, 20, 21, 22. Show Times are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:30 pm. Sunday Matinee is at 2:30 pm. Mrs. Savage, has inherited ten million dollars from her late husband and wants to make the best use of it by establishing a fund to help others realize their hopes and dreams. Knowing that the widow’s wealth is in negotiable securities, her step children Lilly Belle, a controlling socialite played by Angelica Sistrunk-Glasgow, Titus, a US Senator with a dubious reputation and Samuel, a District Judge who has the distinction of having the most decisions over turned, commit her to a “sanatorium” hoping to “bring her to her senses”. While in the Cloisters sanatorium, Mrs. Savage meets a variety of social misfits referred to as “guests’’ by the staff. The Guests of the Cloisters, befriend Mrs. Savage. She finds happiness with guests and hesitates to go back to the cold, cruel world where people will do anything for money. This

high comedy leaves the audience feeling that the virtues of kindness and affection have not been entirely lost in a world that seems to be motivated by greed and dishonesty. > April event spotlight

To everything there is a season. And a time for every purpose under

heaven.A time to laugh, a time to weep.A time to work, a time to break down. The time to brew the coffee is NOT the

time for the coffee pot to break down. Tim-ing is everything in life. I do have some questions about timing that some day I might get the answers to such as why am I at the airport when my ship comes in and why did it rain in Southern California the

one time I’m there at Disneyland? Well the next question I’m adding to the list is: “Why did the coffee maker have to break down during some of the cold-est weather this winter and not during August? Or during the Snow Bliz-zard when no one came to the Cen-ter? I faithfully made a pot of coffee for the cold and chilled that might have graced our doors. But oh no, it had to happen when the wind and the rain were at its worst.

I really can’t be mad at the old coffee machine. It served the masses well for the last 15+ years. It was the hardest working entity in the building. It was a wonderful little machine. It was plumbed. Loved that machine. Not like the original one when I started here 23 years ago. You didn’t need to add the water. We were the best of friends. Every morning after I unlocked the Center doors, I would make the cof-fee. Over the years we made friends with other Early Birds. Anyone complain about my coffee? Not my problem. They could come take over anytime. It’s pre-packaged.

Taste funny? Sorry, I wouldn’t know. I

don’t even drink coffee... Never got any takers.

After all these years of faith-

ful service, it went out with a bang. L i t e r a l l y . It started sparking and

then... smoke. Kinda like how I imag-

ine I’ll go. One Big Bang then

Poof! I certainly don’t want to come to a slow drip end. After a couple of tries with little one pot makers, we brought the Old Fashion Coffee Maker out of retirement. I have to add the water for every pot. At least I’m not lugging buckets in from the well. You would think we’re having a Coffee Drought around the Center. I swear people who never drank coffee before are drinking it now. It’s like watering elephants. (Read the book if you need an explanation.)

Being the modern girl that I am who

LOVES indoor plumbing in every way, decided that we better raise some money. Here is the picture of the lovely Coffee Lovers Basket we raffled. Originally the drawing was to be held on April 18 until I was informed that the coffee would be stale by then. Oh. Didn’t coffee get stored on pioneer treks and sea voyages? They were longer than a month. So the drawing was moved to March 30. We raised quite a bit of money. I didn’t even have to sing. Haven’t figured out if people took pity on me or thought the coffee would taste better. So now we have a new machine. The old one is RIP in my office. It’s hard to part with old friends. Now if it was up to me, the new machine would look like something from 7-11. Besides choosing what flavor cof-fee, it would make three different kinds of hot chocolate. We do have an Applebee’s Fundraiser coming up this month. Maybe I better go mist my throat.Update: Just before we went to press, we had another coffee machine breakdown. We’re on our third coffee machine while waiting for the new one.
