The next meetings of the 4-H Youth Council will be held on Sunday, June 4 at 7:00 AND on Sunday, June 11 at 7:00 PM. We will be finalizing activities for Fair.

If you’re in High School and interested in joining this fun group to help plan activities for 4-H mem-bers across the county stop by the Office, email [email protected], or message us on Facebook at ISU and Outreach Dickinson County for an application. Applications due July 19.

Other Important Dates/Reminders:

- Please review the 2017 Livestock Updates

- Helmets are required!

- Must attend 2 scheduled practices, (Fair Run Through does not count as regular practices)

- All Fair entries are due Saturday July 1st, point AND non-point classes must be chosen by exhibitor and entered by July 1st

- Showmanship OR Western Horsemanship/ English Equitation are required of all exhibitors (May be selected as point class)

Youth Council Meeting—June 4 & 11

Are you planning on showing poultry at Fair? Be sure to bring your birds to the Pullorum Draw & Bird Washing Workshop on Saturday, June 24 in the Dickinson County Horse Barn at 10:00 AM.

Pullorum Testing is required for all birds exhibited at fair. Attendance will fulfill your poultry workshop requirement for exhibiting. Testing is free for Dickinson County 4-H members.

Register by June 23 and let us know how many birds you will be brining to insure materials for testing and activities.

Pullorum Draw/Poultry Workshop—June 24

4-Her’s in the dog project area, mark your calendars. The first portion of practice will cover obedience and

agility will be covered at the end. Please remember to bring a copy of your dog’s most recent vaccination

record (rabies certificate) to the first practice.

Static Judging Schedule — July 13

County Fair Class Entries are due to the Extension Office by Friday, June 30 at 4:30 PM. This is the last day to turn in entries, not the only day. Entry Forms are included with this mailing. For additional Entry Forms stop by the office or download them from our County website. Static Exhibit Entry Form Livestock Entry Form: Pet, Dog, Poultry, Rabbit, & Horse Livestock Entry Form: Sheep, Goat, Swine, & Beef

Please use class numbers from the 2017 Dickinson County 4-H/FFA Fair Book when completing entry forms. It has class guidelines and entry limits for each department. If you are entering a large static exhibit, please let us know on your entry form so we can make space arrangements in the exhibit hall. Large items selected for the Iowa State Fair are the responsibility of the exhibitor to transport down and back.

All static exhibits must have a completed goal card for each entry on judging day. If you would like to down-load goal cards go to the County website or stop by the office to pick up a paper copy.

The new online system is not ready yet, please use paper entry forms enclosed in mailing.

Fair Entry Checklist

Exhibits on Entry Forms match project enrollment areas in 4H Online

Animals on Entry Forms match animals ID’d in 4H Online

Double check eligibility with your Club Leader on attendance, community service, & educational presentation

Check with the office on FSQA Certification

ENTRY FORMS for livestock and static are completed and turned in to the office by Friday, July 1 at 4:30 PM. (These can be turned in anytime, to avoid the deadline rush.)

Remember to sign up for Showmanship classes on your entry forms. Either showmanship or Horsemanship are required for Horse. Showmanship is also required for Rabbit & Poultry.

Horse Exhibitors, mark on your Entry Form which horse(s) you want stalled and if you will be bringing a horse the day of the show.

Breeding Animals must have birthdates on entry forms to determine classes.

All beef animals will be charged $10 per lead animal and $20 per pen for wood chips. Turn in checks (or cash) with entries.

Individual bags of wood shavings will be available for $5 from Spencer Ag Center for horses, sheep, goats, swine, poultry & rabbit. (The horse committee encourages exhibitors to pay the $5 with entries and have bags dropped off in stalls prior to fair.) Partnership with Spencer Ag Center is a fundraiser for the Poultry & Rabbit Project Areas.

Be sure you have an official 4-H T-shirt for static judging day and for ALL livestock, dog, and pet shows. We have new shirts available in the Office for $10. (Exception: Horse Exhibitors,

check the Fairbook for dress code and be sure you have a 4-H armband, also available at the Extension Office.)

Livestock Check-In Day – Saturday, July 15th

Bring complete/signed Drug Affidavit forms to check-in to receive your stall cards.

(These do not come in July 1. You could still administer medications, etc. July 1—15.)

Pre-Fair Meeting July 6 at 7:00 PM The Pre-Fair Meeting is Thursday, July 6 at 7:00 PM in the Expo Community Room. All 4-H and FFA members,

families, committee members, volunteers, etc. are invited to attend.

We will review the Fair Schedule as a large group then break into project areas to go over entries, set-up,

processes, etc. If you are unable to attend but have comments you would like shared, please feel free to contact a committee

member or the Extension Office.
