Wordy’s New Career, Carter, grade 5

Wordy was having a relaxing day. He was getting bored and had no books to read.

Wordy slinked over to a laboratory because laboratories usually have people that study things,

and people who study things usually have books. He saw some books to read; he didn’t realize

that the scientists were studying how to save worms, because people step on worms. One

scientist saw him and took him to a habitat to save him. Wordy was trapped.

While he was in the habitat, he met other worms. He told them to chew words out of

the newspaper used for a floor. He put them together into a story about how to make kids

laugh.

A scientist (let’s call him Bob) saw the story. He wondered how it got there. The worms

chewed out letters to make: By Wordy Worm. Bob made a book using the story Wordy made!

The book was an instant success! Bob put a copy into the habitat. Wordy taught the

other worms to read. They were naturals; Wordy made them his publishers and editors. He

became a world-renowned writer.

A Day at the Farm, Ava, grade 2

One day, Wordy Worm wanted to get out of the library, so he went to a farm. He went

to the Pickle Mickle Wickle farm. A pig greeted him at the fence, and then a chicken came over.

Wordy wanted to know what that brown slimy stuff was, so he rolled in it. After he came out,

he said, “Yuck!” Chicken lost some feathers and Wordy did not see, so then he got feathers all

over himself.

After that, Wordy saw tall yellow stalks sticking out of the ground. So he went in it and

Pig followed. After 13 minutes, they got lost in the corn maze. Thankfully, a purple and green

bird saw them and guided them out! But Wordy was hungry so he ate some yummy grain from

the grass. After that, Wordy saw tall yellow flakey stuff that was hay. He investigated and he

jumped in it.

Wordy missed reading books, so he went back to the library. When he got back to the

library, he forgot his favorite book, The Mystery of the Lost Cup. So he went back to the farm.

But only Chicken greeted him there because Pig was sick. Wordy said, “I lost my favorite book,

The Mystery of the Lost Cup. Do you see it?”

“Oh, oh, I see it,” said Chicken. “It’s in the mud.”

“Oh, I see it,” said Wordy. Wordy picked it up, brushed it off, and hugged it very tight.

Wordy said “bye bye” to his friend and went back.

Hi, I’m Wordy Worm and I’m in Bosnia. Bosnia is a small country in Europe. Bosnia is rich

in natural resources. People say that the resources were guarded by powerful dragons. Long

ago, people started to be afraid of them, and dragons were never seen again. Bosnians say that

dragons live in caves! Let’s go see them for ourselves! Luckily, I brought my portable time

machine.

Okay, we are here. It is beautiful. Okay, let’s go see them. “I’m tired,” said Wordy Worm.

Luckily there is fresh water close by. Bosnia is home to many freshwater streams. Okay, we are

here. We are at the caves. Look, we found one dragon. Let’s go talk to him. Is he crying? Let’s

go cheer him up. “Are you okay?” asked Wordy Worm.

“No,” said the dragon.

“Why?” asked Wordy Worm.

“Because everyone is scared of me and they all think I’m a monster, but I’m not.”

“That’s sad. I will do everything I can to help you,” said Wordy Worm.

“Thank you, Wordy Worm. Let me tell you something. I’m really the guardian of Bosnia.”

“What?”

“Yes, I am,” said the dragon.

“Cool,” said Wordy Worm. “Let’s go. Okay, we are here at the village. I will tell everyone

that you are good. Hello, Villagers! I’m Wordy Worm and this is my friend, Dragon. We need to

tell you that he is not a monster. Please do not be afraid of him. He is the guardian of Bosnia. I

want to tell you not to judge anyone from the outside. It all counts what’s on the inside. Don’t

be sad if people say you look weird. You can look how you want to look.”

All the people started to cheer. They all painted the dragon blue for fresh water, yellow

for sunlight, and white for fresh air. From then on, Wordy Worm came every month to visit the

dragon. They all lived happily ever after The End

Wordy Worm’s First Day of School, Laticia, grade 4

Hi, my name is Wordy Worm, and today’s my first day of school. My teacher’s name is

Miss Aquino. I hope she is nice! My sister said that she had Miss Aquino; she said she was nice. I

hope my sister is telling the truth. Anyway, I am heading to school…I’m here!

My teacher looked nice and she even smiled at me. I said “hi” and she said “hi” too. I

don’t think my sister was telling the truth, at least I thought so for now. I sat in the front of the

room so I could see better. First we started out with math, my best subject. It was fun. We

learned what a fraction was. Next was gym, everybody’s best thing in school. It was pretty fun

because we got to play soccer. I got hot, so I asked the gym teacher if I could get a drink and he

said yes. So I got a drink at the water fountain and there was another boy in line waiting to get

a drink. His name was Wordy Dog. He seemed a lot bigger than me. But that didn’t matter

because we became friends. Finally, after gym, it was the end of the day. I said goodbye to

everyone and walked home. I told my mom about my big day. She said it sounded as if I had a

good day. I can’t wait to go to school tomorrow.

Once upon a time, there was a bookworm that lived in a castle. Wordy the Worm

helped the king, queen, princess, and prince get the books they wanted to read. Wordy the

Worm did not take a break at all. But one day, the whole king’s family went on a vacation and

the king said the bookworm could have a week off. The king said, “You have one rule. The rule

is that you can’t break anything and if you do break anything you’ll be fired!” Wordy the Worm

did not want to get fired. Wordy the Worm said okay.

The family went on their vacation and Wordy the Worm went all around the castle

looking for something to do. Wordy the Worm went into a room. The room had a big screen TV!

Wordy the Worm turned on the TV and watched a movie called Cat in the Hat! After he was

done with that, he started walking in the hallway. But then, Wordy the Worm tripped and

crashed to the ground! Thud! Then crash! A vase fell on the floor and broke! Wordy the Worm

was so worried! The king said that Wordy the Worm wasn’t allowed to break anything, and if he

did he would be fired.

Wordy the Worm tried to fix the vase, but he couldn’t. He tried to clean it up but he

couldn’t find the tools! Wordy the Worm knew he had to tell the king even if he did get fired.

So Wordy the Worm told the king on the phone. Luckily, the king was still packing. So Wordy

the Worm told the king and the king went and looked at it and the vase wasn’t broken! It was a

magical vase! The best thing is that Wordy the Worm didn’t get fired!

The Adventures of Wordy Worm, Amelia, grade 3

Once upon a time, there was a worm. He was swinging on the vines, and his name was

Wordy Worm. Then he got off. Then a tiger came and the tiger was hungry. Then Wordy Worm

took a bone out of his backpack and he threw it. Then the tiger went away and then he met

Katy Perry. He asked if she could sing “Roar” and then she did and went away.

Next, Wordy Worm sat down and took a break and then he took out his iPad and played

Minecraft. Then it was getting dark and Wordy Worm couldn’t even see his iPad. Then he went

to bed.

In the morning, he was in a mansion. Then he saw his brother, sister, mom, and dad,

and they all asked, “Are you okay?” at the same time. They all lived happily ever after. The End.

Wordy Worm’s Adventure to the North Pole, Myana, grade 3

Wordy Worm wanted to go to the North Pole, so he went to the Bosler Library to pick

up a good book. He checked all of them until he found the perfect one, Wordy Worm’s

Adventure to the North Pole. It had a map to the North Pole, so he checked it out. That is when

his adventure started.

First, Wordy Worm went to the airport. He found a penguin. Wordy Worm asked the

penguin to fly him. The penguin said, “Just come on. Where do you want to go?”

Wordy Worm said, “To the next two libraries until we reach the North Pole. I’ll be done

with this book by then.”

So they flew. When they got there, they were in Europe. Wordy Worm got the same

book, but in a different language. When he finally checked out and went to where the plane

was, the penguin was running. Wordy Worm yelled, “Wait up!”

The penguin yelled, “Get away from me!”

Wordy Worm was out of breath. Wordy Worm walked to the next airport. He saw a

polar bear. He asked the polar bear to fly him. The polar bear said no. Wordy Worm was okay

and went on. All the other animals didn’t want to fly him either. He bought a ticket for a real

plane. He finally reached the North Pole. You want to know why he wanted to go? He was going

to see his brother, Whitey Worm!

Once there was a worm named Wordy Worm. Wordy Worm wanted to go to Australia.

He wanted to see all the cool animals. He wanted to see the kangaroos jump as high as they

can. He wanted to see the big tortoises. He wanted to see the big beaches too!

Wordy went to the A section to look at a book about Australia. He saw all kinds of things

about Australia and about the diamondback snake and the cool monkeys.

The librarian started packing books. The boxes said Australia. Wordy climbed into one of

the boxes. “The library is donating books to Australia,” the librarian said. Wordy thought, “Oh

wow! My dream has come true! I’m finally going to Australia!”

Wordy got shipped to a village in Australia. Wordy hopped out of the box. Wordy was in

the tall grass. Then something picked him up – a kangaroo!

The kangaroo jumped so high that Wordy flew out of the pouch and landed on a

monkey. Then another monkey grabbed him and dropped him. Wordy heard a hissing sound: It

was a diamondback snake.

Then the snake went away. Wordy went back to the village and hopped back onto the

plane and went back to the library. Wordy enjoyed Australia.

He was excited to go to his new house. He thinks there

Wormy’s Library Adventure, Ava, kindgergarten

One day, Wormy Worm and his friends, Selene the Skunk and Bounce the Penguin were

going to the library to return their books.

They got to the library but the library was covered in vines.

The three friends did not know what to do! How were they going to return their books?

Selene the Skunk ran and jumped on the vines. The vines swung back and forth, but the

library was still covered.

Bounce the Penguin went next. He bounced up and down on his bouncy ball. He

bounced on the vines, but the vines did not come down.

Now it was Wormy’s turn. He looked at his book. It was called How to Get Rid of Vines.

The book said to cut the vines carefully with safety scissors. Wormy took out his safety

scissors and cut down all the vines.

The friends were able to return their books. Hooray!

In the ground below Bellaire Elementary School lives Wordy Worm. He loves to raise

charity for people who can’t read, like his grandma, Wanda Worm. One June day, two days

before school ended, Wordy Worm popped his head out of the ground and started sizzling from

the hotness. He tried to wiggle back into the dirt, but a first grade girl named Cameron pulled

him out of the ground. Wordy Worm needed to get underground where it was cool – and fast.

Wordy Worm called to his Fairy Worm Wish Granter, “Wish, oh, wish I need!” She appeared

right away.

“Oh, little one, what do you want?” she said.

Wordy Worm couldn’t take the hotness anymore and the warm breeze hit him harshly

as Cameron ran toward her friends. “To be in a cool place,” Wordy answered.

“Okay,” she said, and with a poof of her wand, he was gone.

When Cameron reached her friends, she opened her hand to show them, but the worm

was gone. Her friend Emily said, “How can you find a worm in hot weather? You can’t find a

worm in 80 degree weather, can you? You probably were just imagining things, but that’s

okay?”

Meanwhile, Wordy opened his eyes and saw a huge Ferris wheel. Then he smelled

chocolate. He heard screams as he saw a rollercoaster going down a hill. When a big Hershey

Kiss walked by, he realized he was at the happiest place on earth…HERSHEYPARK! “This place is

cool, but not the kind of cool I was talking about,” Wordy said. He decided to go on the Ferris

wheel to see if there was a colder place where he could cool down. He climbed onto someone’s

shoe, who was walking towards the Ferris wheel. He got on and when he got to the top he saw

a cool waterpark! “Finally, I can get out of this hotness,” he thought. As he passed a tree, he

jumped onto the branch, pulled off a leaf, and used it as a parachute to float down to the

waterpark. He landed on a tube that was about to go down a waterslide. “Wheeeeeeeeee!” he

screamed. “I want to stay here forever.”

After the waterslide, Wordy saw a gigantic bucket on top of a water playground. He

began to inch his way up to the bucket to see what was inside. “That looks cool,” he said as he

jumped into the bucket. Suddenly, a horn blew and the bucket started tipping. The water

started pouring out and Wordy got washed into the drain. He rode the drain like a worm-sized

waterslide all the way back to a storm sewer. He did not have the strength to move, so he said,

“Wish, oh, wish I need.”

His Fairy Worm Wish Granter appeared and said, “Oh little one, what do you want?”

“Please put me back in Cameron’s hand,” he pleaded.

“Okay,” she said, and with a poof of her wand, he was back in the hand of the little girl.

Cameron shouted to her friends, “Come here! Come here! The worm is back!”

The friends hurried over and said, “Wow! It’s just like magic!” And with that, they

carefully put him back where he belonged…in the cool dirt. Wordy Worm was relieved to be

home and thankful that the little girl was so nice and wise. He decided to write a book about his

adventure so that people like his grandma could learn how to read. The end.

One day, Wordy Worm woke up in a cave. He couldn’t see where he was going. Luckily,

he had a flashlight. He turned it on and it didn’t work, so he pulled out a headlight. He turned it

on and it worked. He walked around for a little bit. He saw a glowing light. He was scared at

first, but then it started to get beautiful. It was diamonds! It was almost Christmas, so he

thought he should give the diamonds to all his family members. He got pink for his sister, Wilma

Worm. He got blue for his brother, Willy Worm. He got purple for his grandma. He got orange

for his grandpa. He got green for his mom and yellow for his dad. It was Christmas Eve when he

got there. He wrapped all the diamonds. Then he went to bed. In the morning, everyone woke

up bright and early. Then they opened the presents. Everyone was shocked. Everyone asked

where he got the diamonds. He said it was a long story and just smiled.

Once upon a time, there was a fight of beef vs. worms. One day, a brave worm called

Wordy Worm wanted to fight the beef. “You don’t stand a chance,” said the beef.

“Well, I’m a hundred percent sure that I’ll beat you,” said Wordy Worm.
