HUETHER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

The Huether School of Business provides the latest technology in new classrooms, seminar rooms anddedicated areas for internship coordination, entrepreneurship training and leadership development. Oneof the hallmarks of the building is its adaptive and flexible design including several spaces available24/7 to students with state-of-the-art technology, designed to foster collaborative learning outside oftraditional class time. There is also a meeting space so that the School of Business faculty and studentscan provide expert consulting and research services to business clients in the community.

REAL-WORLD LEARNINGInternships and Field Experiences

Internships, field experiences, student teaching and other types of hands-on learning are

central to the educational process at Saint Rose, providing real-world learning experiences

outside of the classroom.

Internships are required components of most majorsincluding accounting, American studies, business, communications, communication sciences and disor-ders, cytotechnology, English, graphic design, medicaltechnology, music industry, and social work, as well as observation sessions and semester-long studentteaching for all education-related majors.

In addition, many courses incorporate servicelearning into the curriculum.

STUDY ABROAD AND STUDY AWAYUnique Learning Experiences Home and Abroad

Through the College’s many study abroad and away options, students are able to expand

their academic and cultural knowledge and clarify their purpose as engaged citizens in

the world around them.

We hope that you will participate in a study abroador study away opportunity so that you can experiencea life-changing experience while at Saint Rose.

Studying away is a transformational opportunity thatallows you to take credit-bearing classes in univer-sities all over the world for a semester, a summer,or on a short-term custom program. Some programseven offer internship and/or service learning op-tions. With over 27 different countries to choosefrom, the world is your oyster!

Study Abroad and Study Away Options

Semester Away (fall or spring)Programs run an entire semester and are offered throughpartner colleges in the U.S. and overseas and third-partyproviders. Students take a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Summer Away (4 – 8 weeks)Students who want a shorter-term experience and fewer credithours abroad, typically take 3 – 9 hours of credit.

Short-term Faculty-Led Programs (7 – 21 days)These programs combine faculty mentorship and academiccredit with travel experience at an economical cost. Faculty-led programs enable students to travel internationally or stateside. Recent programs traveled to Ireland, France, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Arizona and Utah.

Student service trip to Antigua, Guatemala to volunteer at Escuela Proyecto La Esperanza (The School of Hope) with the nonprofit organization Education for the Children (EFTC).

The Massry Center for the Arts is where art and music students nurture their talents,hone their skills and express their artistic passion. Neighborhood ServiceService starts with our own neighborhood in Albany.Hundreds of students volunteer at many programs including the Pine Hills Elementary After School Academy,Friday Knights, Emmaus House, St. Anne’s Institute, Albany Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, BigBrothers/Big Sisters and Upper Hudson Peace Action.

Alternative Spring Break Service TripsStudents travel to Washington, DC; New Orleans, LA;Palm Beach, FL; and Guatemala.

THELMA P. LALLY SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

With the Touhey Forum, a space for public discourse and lectures; the Emery Center which provides speech,hearing and special education services; the Standish Curriculum Library; an on-site lab preschool; and theCenter for Technology in Teaching, this building is a testament to the importance of providing cutting-edgelearning facilities for future educators from pre-school teachers to college administrators.

The professional education programs at Saint Rose are accredited by the National Council for Accreditationof Teacher Education (NCATE),a specialized accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Educa-tion and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

As a Saint Rose student, you are part of an active college community in the Capital Region

of New York state. In fact, Places Rated Almanac ranks Albany as one of the top three

cities in the United States in which to receive an education.

The region has more than 60,000 college students,creating a social scene where there are events andhappenings to meet everyone’s tastes— poetry read-ings and open mic nights, professional and collegesporting events, concerts and the performing arts,and world-class shopping venues.

As a campus without walls, Saint Rose merges seam-lessly with the neighborhood—with cafés, coffee shopsand a movie theater closer than some campus buildings.Nearby, the Center for Art and Design in Picotte Hall sits

in the heart of the downtown Lark Street neighborhood,a “mini Greenwich Village” filled with artistic shops, coffee houses and clubs.

Saint Rose students can take local (CDTA) buses forfree with their Saint Rose IDs, so the entire Capital Region is accessible without having to worry about acar. WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST CENTER FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERACTIVE MEDIA

The Hearst Center is a hub of activity at all hours. The Center has a digital television studio and control room, two radio studios, two music recording studios, a digital music composing lab, a café-like performance space with digital sound, lighting and a stage, and two journalism labs. These facilities provide students with the tools to develop the skills needed to follow in the footsteps of alumni who have landed jobs at many national media companies and networks including USA Today, Random House, MSNBC, Radio Free Europe, Sony, Fox News, MTV, and “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.”

3. New York state residents must complete the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application after completing your FAFSA. About three weeks after mailing your paper FAFSA, the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) will send you a postcard or e-mail prompting you to get a HescPIN and complete your TAP application online.
