Thank You, St. Mary’s Family, for another outstanding Salem Parish Bazaar! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the parish members for attending and contributing to the annual Church Bazaar. It takes the entire parish to make an event like this successful. We appreciate everyone who helped by working or donating items. We want to extend a special thank you to Bonnie Sabers for the assistance she gave, and to Mike McCormick for his outstanding donation of time to the bazaar. Mike worked ALL THREE Shifts for the bazaar and did it with a smile on his face the entire time! Thank you Mike, and we really appreciate your generosity. on Monday, October 27, leading to Election Day on November 4. For more information on this Novena, go to www.can4life.org, the website of the Diocesan Respect Life office. One of the prayers is printed below, for use at home:

O most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care. Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to proclaim that God's law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. O Merciful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life. Amen.

POPE BENEDICT’S INTENTIONS FOR NOVEMBER, 2008

GENERAL INTENTION: Love of God & Neighbor. That the tes-

timony of love offered by the saints may fortify Christians in their devotion to God and neighbor, imitating Christ, who came to serve and not to be served.

MISSION INTENTION: Church in Asia. That the Christian com-

munities of Asia, contemplating the face of Christ, may find the most suitable ways to announce Him, in full faithfulness to the Gospel.

The De Profundus (Psalm 130) - recited daily for the Holy Souls:

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my voice.

Let Thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it.

For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of Thy law, I have waited for Thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on His word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord. From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with Him plentiful redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities. Eternal rest grant...

"Of course I pray for the dead. The action is so spontaneous, so all but inevitable, that only the most compulsive theological case against it would deter me. And I hardly know how the rest of my prayers would survive if those for the dead were forbidden. At our age, the majority of those we love best are dead. What sort of intercourse with God could I have if what I love best were unmentionable to him? I believe in Purgatory. Our souls demand Purgatory, don't they? Would in not break the heart if God said to us, 'It is true, my son, that your breath smells and your rags drip with mud and slime, but we are charitable here and no one will upbraid you with these things, nor draw away from you. Enter into the joy'? Should we not reply, 'With submission, sir, and if there is no objection, I'd rather be cleaned first.' 'It may hurt, you know' - 'Even so, sir.’”
