Characterization  –

Sam  suffered  from  autism,  I  noticed  this  because  he  had  problems  with  some  noises,  he  acted  strangely  to  some  situations,  he  screamed  a  lot  and  in  the  interview  they  mentioned  that  he  had  a

autism  disease.  He  has  some  characteristics  of  the  Asperger’s  disease,  but  mostly  autism  characteristics.

•  In  what  ways  is  Sam  more  insightful  than  other  characters  in  the  movie?  How  is  this  evident  to  the  viewer?

Sam  could  be  more  insightful  than  other  characters  in  this  movie  because  of  many  reasons,  one  of  this  reasons  is  that  he  is  an  adult  that  his  this  disease.  He  is  a  father  that  is  raising  his

child  by  his  own,  he  gives  her  live,  attention  and  everything  he  needs.  Even  dough  he  has  this  disease  he  is  doing  a  very  good  job  as  a  father.    He  is  very  sensitive  and  this  shows  some  of

the  characteristics  that  the  disease  owns.  This  is  evident  to  the  viewer  because  Sam  is  always  analyzing  what  he  did,  if  he  did  it  right  or  wrong.  He  is  always  trying  to  get  better  in  the

skills  that  he  is  not  good  at.  Sam  tries,  for  example,  to  read  and  to  get  better  at  it.

•  How  does  Rita’s  life  parallel  Sam’s  life?  If  her  life  parallels  Sam’s,  does  this  make  her  a  dual  protagonist?

Rita  is  parallel  to  Sam’s  life  because  even  dough  she  does  not  have  a  disease  he  has  other  big  problems,  child  services  had  also  taken  her  daughter  away.  So  they  felt  the  same  things,  Rita

has  children  that  didn’t  really  love  her,  she  felt  very  alone  because  his  husband  was  not  a  good  one.    Sam  has  a  disease  and  he  feels  the  same  way  because  they  have  taken  his  daughter

away  and  he  felt  alone  until  some  time.  They  are  dual  protagonists  because  they  are  suffering  something  very  similar,  they  help  each  other  mutually.

Page 27: The curious incident Ivonne Chaba kalach

•  How  do  Sam  and  Rita  change?

This  event  changed  Rita’s  and  Sam’s  life  completely.  To  begin,  Sam’s  recognizes  that  he  has  this  problem,  al  dough  he  tries  day  by  day  to  be  a

better  father  he  will  try  harder  so  he  can  give  his  daughter  what  he  deserves  and  what  she  needs.  He  had  to  demonstrate  that  he  can  be

responsible  enough  to  take  care  of  her,  this  made  him  more  responsible  and  more  concourse  of  what  he  has  to  do  so  they  don’t  take  her

daughter  away.  Rita’s  life  changed  completely  too,  she  got  more  sensible  about  stuff  that  before  this  she  didn’t  even  see.  She  noticed  that  being

so  suburb  is  not  as  good  as  she  thought  it  would  be.  She  got  to  thank  about  many  things  in  life  and  to  thank  what  she  has.Premises  -‐-‐

•  A  premise,  much  like  a  summary,  explains  what  a  movie  is  about.  Write  the  premise  for  this  movie  in  one  to  two  sentences.

This  amazing  movie  is  about  a  father  that  was  abandoned  by  the  birth  mother  that  gave  him  his  daughter.  This  amazing  person  is  called

Sam  and  he  suffers  from  a  disease  called  Autism.  He  does  a  good  job  as  a  father,  but  the  child  services  thinks  his  efforts  are  not  enough.

They  come  for  her  and  take  her  away,  Sam  has  to  prove  that  he  can  take  care  of  her.  He  gets  a  lawyer  called  Rita  and  he  sees  that  he  has  to

better  his  efforts  so  they  can  give  her  daughter  back.  Rita  gets  sensible  and  helps  him.  They  return  her  daughter  back  after  he  proves

himself.

Dear  Mariana,

First  of  all,  I  want  you  to  know  that  I’ve  been  missing  you  like  crazy  since  you  left  town.  I  hope  you’ve  been  great  and  that  your  family  problems  are  getting  solved.  I  really  want  to  tell  you  about  something  that  has  happened  to  me.  I  fell  in  love  all  over  again,  but  not  the  usual  falling  in  love.  I  mean  that  I  am  teaching  a  student  that  is  really  like  the  little  brother  that  I  never  had.  I  don’t  even  feel  I’m  his  teacher;  I  feel  more  like  a  best  friend.

The  trust  between  us  is  the  best;  he  left  me  read  his  novel.  I  am  helping  him  grow  as  the  day  passes  and  I’m  like  his  guide.  Off  course  that  at  Rirst  it  wasn’t  easy  at  all,  but  know  I’m  the  person  he  most  trusts.  I  tell  him  exactly  what  is  correct  and  what  isn’t  for  his  novel.  I  think  I’ve  encouraged  him  a  lot  and  this  is  helping  him  get  more  self-‐conRidence.  I  tell  him  to  write  about  something  that  he  would  read.  I’m  proud  of  me  and  myself  because  I  cause  this  enthusiasm  in  him.

Another  great  thing  that  he  achieved  because  of  my  help  was  the  A-‐level  math  exam,  because  I  know  he  is  capable  of  doing  it  so  well.  I  think  I’ve  grown  a  lot  being  next  to  him  and  that  he  will  soon  succeed  in  everything  he  does.  I’ve  grown  as  a  person  being  next  to  him  because  I’ve  learned  to  have  a  lot  of  patience  with  him.  I  use  to  have  none  at  all,  and  I’ve  improved  since.

I  also  noticed  that  his  relationships  with  his  parents  aren’t  the  best  at  all.  They  don’t  communicate  nor  share  anything  in  common.  I  think  his  parents  should  put  more  attention  to  him.  I  am  trying  to  do  father-‐daughter  school  days  so  they  can  have  a  good  time.  I  think  that  I  have  change  Christopher’s  life  and  I  gave  it  a  360  turn.

Know  enough  about  me!  I  want  to  hear  how  you  are  doing?  And  in  what  are  you  working  on!  Tell  me  about  your  life,  I  am  anxious  to  hear  everything  since  I  really  miss  being  with  you.  I  hope  you  are  doing  great  and  that  I  can  hear  about  you  soon.

Regards,

Siobhan

IVONNE  CHABA  KALACH  1OBHOW  CAN  I  HELP  A  KID  LIKE  CHRISTOPHER  FIT  INTO  SOCIETY?

HOW  CAN  I  HELP  HIM  DEVELOP  HIS  LANGUAGE  IN  SUCH  A  WAY  THAT  OTHER  PEOPLE  MAY  UNDERSTAND  WHAT  HE  TRIES  TO  EXPRESS?

This  speciRic  topic  is  very  difRicult  to  discuss  and  is  to  be  treated  with  a  lot  of  attention.  There  are  many  solutions  that  might  result  as  a  positive  way  to  the  people  that  suffer  from  this  disease,  but  all  of  these  solutions  have  a  long  process.  One  of  these  solutions  would  be  to  make  a  type  of  routine  for  Christopher,  this  way  he  will  become  self-‐conRident  as  the  days  passes.  This  routine  will  give  him  some  type  of  security  that  he  is  doing  things  rights.  For  starters,  he  needs  to  be  with  people  that  have  the  patience  to  understand  him  and  to  understand  all  of  Christopher’s  problems.  Children  or  people  that  have  these  conditions  will  have  a  great  time  with  regular  society  after  some  time,  but  in  my  opinion,  they  can  be  even  happier  if  they  get  into  a  society  that  is  created  with  people  that  share  this  same  disease.  People  suffering  from  this  disease  have  already  created  a  numerous  communities,  creating  their  own  and  new  society.  This  is  the  best  solution;  this  is  how  I  would  help  a  kid  like  Christopher  Rit  into  society.  Putting  him  into  this  communities  were  they  all  have  the  same  needs,  were  they  can  all  support  each  other  and  understand  each  other.  This  way  Christopher  won’t  feel  different  or  non  productive,  he  will  improve  his  skills  daily.

I  would  use  the  system  that  we  saw  in  class,  and  will  give  him  speciRic  instructions  about  what  and  how  to  say  every  time  he  has  an  emotion.  For  example,  I  would  make  him  exercises  and  ask  him  what  he  feels  if  this  would  happen,  etc.  This  way  he  will  learn  to  express  himself  correctly  and  will  communicate  better  as  time  passes.  Yes,  this  will  be  a  long  process  and  will  probably  take  his  whole  childhood,  but  in  the  end  he  will  be  able  to  express  himself  freely  and  with  conRidence.
