Lee County School District No. 1 and Board Members Claims of race discrimination and constructive discharge against the Lee County School District No. 1 and individual members of the County's Board of Education. The jury awarded $10,000 in compensatory damages on the race discrimination claim, $60,825 in wages and fringe benefits on the constructive discharge claim, and a total of $8,000 Total request of attorney fee $46,735.82, District only awarded 3,333 Descion reversed by Judges Bye and Melloy, Circuit Judges Slide 9 Notable Cases Planned Parenthood Case South Dakota required a suicide advisory to be given by physicians to patients getting abortions. By forcing doctors to inform women that abortion subjects them to a risk which the record medical evidence refutes, the suicide advisory places an undue burden on a pregnant woman's due process rights and violates a doctor's First Amendment right against compelled speech. The district court's order enjoining the suicide advisory should therefore be affirmed. Descion reversed by Judges Riley, Chief Judge, Wollman, Loken, Murphy, Bye, Melloy, Smith, Colloton, Gruender, Benton and Shepherd Slide 10 Notable Cases NFL Lockout Case In March 2011, members of the National Football League commenced a lockout of players after bargaining to an impasse with the National Football League Players Association. Brady Suit The settlement as reflected in the new CBA included some $900 million in increased benefits for retired NFL players.
