SOUTH Cheshire councillors have blasted the Cheshire East authority leadership following news that the Local Plan faces further long delays. The inspector examining the plan highlighted serious concerns and has recommended suspension of up to six months or withdrawing it completely and re-submitting at a later date. Sandbach councillor Sam Corcoran said: “The Conservatives have let loose private developers, hoping that free enterprise will solve the housing shortage. “As a result, planning is currently out of control in Cheshire East. “The counter- balance is supposed to be a Local Plan saying where development should and should not take place. “Now the Inspector has said that there are ‘serious shortcomings’ in the Plan and unless it is revised he ‘would probably conclude that the submitted Plan is unsound’.” Cllr Corcoran said that every delay gives more time for developers to get speculative housing applications approved. Nantwich councillor Brian Silvester said the leader and deputy leader of Cheshire East Council should resign after the Planning Inspector has ‘torn the Local Plan to shreds’. He said: “CEC have had over five years to get the Local Plan right and they have totally failed. “The consequence of this is that developers have had free rein to do virtually what they want and residents have to sit and watch whilst their prescious green gaps and green belt is destroyed and concreted over.” The leader of the Independent group on the council Brendan Murphy has said the Local Plan is now ‘dead in the water’ and it is an ‘unforgiveable disgrace the council has got it so wrong’. Council leader Michael Jones has described the six month suspension of the Local Plan as ‘regrettable’ but said his focus would be on protecting open countryside and greenbelt from unplanned development. FOUNDER member of Ocean Colour Scene, Steve Cradock and his band will be returning to the Crown Hotel in Nantwich on December 4 after playing his first ever live gig at the Crown back in 1990. This time he will be returning with the original band that went onto become Ocean Colour Scene.

The Crown’s Phillip Martin said: “I remember the gig so well, one of our long term residents’ son was playing in the band, that’s how the gig came about, they were amazing, you could see then that they would go onto be a top UK band.” Tickets are £18 and available on 01270 625283.

REASEHEATH College equine students came under the spotlight at the world’s most famous horse show, the Horse of the Year Show, by providing the arena party for

the fourth consecutive year. A team of 38 students and two staff were on duty helping international designers build courses to test the world’s leading showjumpers.

CHESHIRE East Council is working to find a new and better location for The Gables Luncheon Club in Nantwich. The council intends to put The Gables building on the market for sale before the end of the year. The luncheon club’s trustees and members have been reassured that it will be able to remain within The Gables for the time being. Councillor Les Gilbert said: “We are working with a range of partners to develop a Community Hub within

Nantwich and we have been looking at various buildings around the centre of the town, which could provide suitable facilities for a range of user groups. “We all want the very best for the club and we will do everything we can to stand by our commitment to find a suitable venue.” Councillor Janet Clowes, added: “Our hope is that the new venue will provide this much loved and highly valued club with better facilities and the opportunity to expand, as it is currently full to capacity.”

A NANTWICH councillor is to battle against another proposed housing development on green gap land in Willaston. Cllr Brian Silvester, who represents the Willaston and Rope ward, said: “The proposal is to build five detached houses behind 44 Cheerbrook Road.

“The application is in the open countrside and the green gap so I was amazed to be advised that the planning officer was going to decide it himself without it going to committee. “It was such a contentious application that it needed to be put before the committee so I have called it in.”

THE standard bearers of the Nantwich and District Branch of the Royal British Legion led a parade of current and ex-servicemen, civic dignitaries, cadets, scouts and guides through the town centre on Remembrance Sunday. Townspeople lined the streets to watch the parade, pay their respects and remember those who have fallen in conflict over the last 100 years. Hundreds then packed into St Mary’s Church for a moving service led by the Rector, Rev Barry Wilson. The reading was given by Chris King, Chairman of the

Nantwich and District Branch of the British Legion. The reading of names from the Roll of Honour was followed by the sounding of the Last Post and a minute’s silence. After the service wreaths were laid at the War Memorial on the Square and a minute’s silence was observed before concluding prayers led by the Rector. Town Mayor Christine Farrall laid a wreath on behalf of Nantwich Town Council. On Tuesday a short service was held at the War Memorial on the Square.

DABBERS boss Danny Johnson is hoping the side can turn a corner in what is proving to be a difficult season so far. The team currently sit 19th in the Evo-Stik Premier and were knocked out of the Doodson Cup in a 3-2 thriller at home against Stourbridge.

And any dreams of playing in the FA Trophy final this season are over after Ramsbottom United won 3-1 in Nantwich in the 2nd Qualifying round. But the gaffer has heaped praise on the travelling supporters who he says have been a ‘rock’ for him this season.

He said: “The season so far has hurt me, more than anyone can imagine and I have a burning desire to turn our fortunes around. “However, I can’t do that alone, I need good people around me including the supporters. “You would all be well within your rights to vent

your anger but I know from conversations I have had with you that you all understand the situations we have found ourselves in so far this season. “I firmly believe we are about to turn a corner and move forward, if we can keep relatively injury and suspension free.”
