International momentum in the bulksector demands cost-effective andenvironmentally aware handlingsolutions in maritime ports of everytype and size.

In addition to grab cranes with hand -ling capacities of up to 1,850 tph*, Gottwald offers a variety of equipment for the bulk logisticschain.

This also includes hoppers of variousdesigns:

■ mobile on wheels ■ on rails ■ permanently installed.

Flexible unloadingDepending on local requirements, bulk material from Gottwald hoppersis unloaded on to: ■■ road trucks■■ freight trains■■ conveyor belts.

Diverse applicationsGottwald hoppers can be specificallyconfigured in a wide range ofequipment variants with capacities of up to 2,000 tph* for practically all bulk materials.

* Handling rates are dependent onterminal and operating conditions.

Effective dust suppressionThe optional dust suppression in the hopper can be accomplished by a variety of means, ranging from simple enclosure to wetting the bulk material to highly efficient dust protection systems for the most stringent requirements.

We have combined our global activities in bulk handling in our International Dry Bulk Competence Centre (IDBBC).

As a terminal operator, take advantage of our specialist knowledge and direct access to a comprehensive, integrated product range.

Tailored to your requirementsGottwald hoppers – customised design, execution and equipment

We know and understand therequirements placed on staff andmaterials in the raw bulk materialsenvironment. This is why Gottwaldhoppers stand head-and-shouldersabove the rest:■■ high-grade, robust steel

construction for reliable operation with enhanced availability

■■ environmentally aware energy supply and efficient drive technology

■■ gentle, efficient bulk handling thanks to specifically adapted design.

Direct connection possibleFlexible energy supplywithout local emissionsby means of alternativedirect connection tothe harbour mains.

Stand-alone operationPower supply via efficient, soundproofed dieselgenerators and large daytanks.

We think aheadTo ensure cost-effective hopper operation, additional factors are also important:■■ design completely

adapted to the logistics chain

■■ consideration of climatic conditions

■■ minimised emissions.

Benefit from our holistic approach and the efficient interaction between crane, hopper and material removal.

PowerfulThe drives used for travelling, steering, braking and propping are hydraulically powered.

SafeSensors for load monitoringare integrated in thepropping system.

Robust The travel gear units are equippedwith tough rubber wheels.

Ergonomically designedThe stairways ensure that all operating and maintenance points are easily accessible.

Clearly arrangedThe control panel has a touchscreen with clearly arranged menus and graphics as well as camera monitoring of the handling process.

SpaciousThe generously dimensionedoperator‘s cab in the interioris air-conditioned and guarantees a good view of the loading zone.

Built-in efficiencyThe control system is optimised for energy-efficient operation of the hopper. An example: in the event of inactivity, the system automatically switches to an energy-saving standby mode.

Productivity and safety are the major cornerstones of the technical design of Gottwald products.

This is also reflected in our hoppers:■■ user-friendly functionality for

travelling, operation and maintenance

■■ ergonomic and operator-friendly user interfaces

■■ intelligent sensors combined with clear visual and acoustic signalling.

Permanently monitoredThe load in the hopper is continuously measuredand displayed.Multilevel monitoring protects both the hopper and the material handled:■■ if there is bulk

material in the hopper, the propping system can no longer be actuated

■■ if a warning threshold is exceeded, the risk of overfilling is detected in good time – the crane operator is then signalled not to open the grab

■■ in the event of overloading, a steady alarm is triggered.

Functional and efficientUser-friendly operation thanks to intelligent controls

7

UncomplicatedTravel and propping are controlled fromthe air-conditioneddriver‘s cab.

The control panel is equipped with a touchscreenand joystick.

SafeThe position of the grab in the hopper opening is monitored by an ultrasonic sensor. The crane operator receives a visual signal when he is allowed to open the grab. The signal is also linked to the overload monitoring system.Alternatively, signals can also be exchanged between the crane and the hopper to facilitate automatic locking and release.

RegulatedEntry and exit of road trucks are organised by clear signalling.

8

Strict regulations in terminals require efficient systems for reducing emissions during goods handling. In the bulk material sector, this primarily means dust protection measures, and this relates not only to air pollution, but also to safety.

Reliable protectionExplosion monitoring andfire alarms at all critical points are a matter of course –to protect staff, equipment and bulk materials.

Increased cost effectivenessGottwald anti-dust systems also minimise material loss and thus increase the cost effectiveness of the hopper.

The high all-round wind protectionallows the grab to be opened ina protected state.

Retractable loading chutesThanks to telescopic loading chutes, the material does not drop during the loading process but flows smoothly. Damage to the bulk material is reduced.

The gate valves are hydraulically activated and close automatically in the event of a power blackout. The vertical drive is an electric motor with a rope hoist. In order to minimise dust development, the end of the chute is automatically kept in contact with the material already unloaded.

Gottwald is setting milestones with environmentally-friendly technologies for increased energy efficiency and reduced emissions. That is what the Gottwald Green Range logo stands for, also with respect to our hoppers.

Environmentally friendly and safeHighly efficient dust suppression systems

9

Extraction systemThe high-power system for dust extraction has automatic self-cleaning of the filters. The advantage is longer maintenance intervals and lifetime. The filtered-out material is fed back and so is not lost. Clean air is released outside.

Air curtainAn air curtain system integrated into the wind protection of the hopper opening prevents residual dust escaping when the grab is opened. The system adapts automatically according to the continuously measured wind direction and strength.

A protective grid prevents ingress of foreign bodies into the hopper. Below the grid is a flex-flap system.

EnclosureThe hopper is completely enclosed – this also reduces noise emissions.

A high-speed door at the entrance – together with the lateral rubber aprons – restricts the draft effect inside the hopper.

Flex-flap barrier

It allows the bulk material to enter downwards but prevents simultaneous upwards escape of dust.
