Charles Babbage (26 December 1791 – 18 October 1871) was an English mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer who originated the concept of a programmable computer. Considered a “Father of Computers", Babbage is credited with inventing the first mechanical computer that eventually led to more complex designs. While he produced prototypes of portions of the Difference Engine, eventually he gave up. In 1854, he decided to build an Analytical Engine, which he also left unfinished. Nonetheless, his proposals for mechanical computers predated the modern reinvention of computers by almost a century. In 1837, Charles Babbage, a British professor of mathematics described his idea for the Analytical Engine, the first stored-program mechanical computer. The Analytical Engine was designed to be powered by a steam engine and was to use Punched Cards, which was used to program mechanical looms at the time. What made the Analytical Engine unique was that it was designed to be programmed. It was because of this and the fact that it would be more than 100 years that any similar devices would be constructed. Because of legal, financial,

and political obstacles, the Analytical Machine would never be completed. Charles Babbage was also difficult to work with and alienated the supporters of his work. In 1939, John V. Atanasoff and Clifford Berry developed the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) at Iowa State University, which was regarded as the first electronic digital computer. The ABC was built by hand and the design used over 300 Vacuum Tubes and had capacitors fixed in a mechanically rotating drum for memory. Because of this accomplishment, Charles Babbage has earned his place in history as the "Father of Computers”. Parts of his uncompleted mechanisms are on display in the London Science Museum. In 1991, a perfectly functioning difference engine was constructed from Babbage's original plans. Built to tolerances achievable in the 19th century, the success of the finished engine indicated that Babbage's machine would have worked. Nine years later, the Science Museum completed the printer Babbage had designed for the difference engine.

Director’s Desk

Foundation, now ten years old, has established itself as one of the leading

self-financed colleges in north India. This has been primarily due to the large

significance that the College puts on the Teaching-learning process.

Speakers from Corporate world and academicians and thought leaders

regularly visit JECRC to interact with the students. As we all know, digital

media has come-up in a big way. It has opened up vast vistas of new

possibilities. I am glad to note that The Edifier team have made use of this

development and harnessed it in a big way in the form of this magazine, I am

particularly glad to know that this communication will establish a tread of

acquaintance with our alumni who are doing wonders across the world and

raising the flag of JECRC higher and higher, for which JECRC owes a lot to

them. The Edifier will provide us all the insight into various actives which

will take place at JECRC every six months on a click of a button. I invite all

of you to come join us in the imitative. I once again congratulate the "Team

Education is the foundation upon which a progressive

nation stands and its citizens, made responsible by that

JECRC Foundation, since its inception over a decade

ago, has taken over the mission of nurturing students with the establishment

of engineering colleges in Jaipur.

I served our country as an IPS officer for 37 long years. As a former

bureaucrat, my aim is to bring my knowledge and experience for the benefit

of my students. Other areas where I assist students are honing their soft

skills, teaching how to write their resumes, preparing them for personal

interviews and group discussions, grooming and personality development. I

have also mentored students who have shown inclination towards joining the

Indian Civil Services over the years. I have employed my experience of

interviewing people in various commissions like UPSC, RPSC and Staff

Selection Commission to prepare students before their Campus Interviews.

My purpose is to instill a sense of responsibility in students and to take an

overview of areas pertaining to security, discipline and counseling.

I am extremely delighted to learn that students of Information Technology

The institutions of JECRC Foundation are amongst the

top engineering colleges in Rajasthan and currently have

over 5000 students enrolled across various disciplines.

Education is the foundation upon which a progressive nation stands and its

HOD’s Desk

It gives me an immense pleasure to introduce the first

edition of our Department's magazine. This magazine

mirrors the highs and lows of all our Department's

endeavors during the academic term and certainly the

great effort and time put in by the Editorial Team.

There's nostalgia of course, but also an opportunity for stock taking. Apart

from the many ups and downs, high achievements and disappointments over

the years, what is more apparent is that the spirit of our IT Department

remains intrinsically the same, having evolved into an ethos strong enough to

weather vicissitudes, while happily adapting to change. The colors are vivid,

reflecting the vitality and versatility of young minds. Furthermore, the

magazine reflects the accolades garnered by the college alumni, some of which

have gone to pursue their postgraduate studies from known universities

abroad and premier Indian institutes like IIT, NIT, PEC, etcetera, while others

were placed in CMM Level 5 Companies at reputed positions. Finally, this

magazine records the passage of time, especially for the staff and myself who

have the privilege of seeing our students progress before our own eyes. My

congratulations to staff and students on the Editorial Team for a job well done

and best wishes to all my students!

Editor’s Desk

The grand task of compiling our Department Magazine is over and all we can

say that we are relieved. Since this was the first edition of the magazine, it was

a challenging task for us. Keeping track of events that have taken place in the

past, rummaging through sheaves of old musty pages, contacting the alumni,

the sessions of brain storming to come up with better ideas and formulating the

layout have been experiences we would always remember. Today, education

focuses on teachers being facilitators and giving that extra guidance to the

students. When this magazine took shape that is exactly what happened.

We have put our heart and soul into this magazine, with that wee bit of

guidance and help from the teachers, which helped us to do our best. We

started with a plan to release this magazine on a small scale which has now

become much more than what we thought. The reason behind this is that all

talents are brought forth, and what better way than to give the students an

opportunity to dabble in these, right here. In short, we have something for

everybody. As we look back, the picture that comes to our mind is that of an

oyster. The process may be excruciating but the end result is that beautiful

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Admission To B. Tech Program:

Admissions take place on the basis of ranking in AIEEE(15%) and RPET(70%) examinations and others(15%). Many students have enrolled through various schemes such as Chief Minister Education, Samaj Kalyan, TFWS, etcetera.


Program Educational Objectives

1. To produce graduates who are able to apply computer engineering

knowledge to provide turn-key IT solutions to national and

international organizations.

2. To produce graduates with the necessary background and technical

skills to work professionally in one or more of the areas like – IT

solution design development and implementation consisting of

system design, network design, software design and development,

system implementation and management etc. Graduates would be

able to provide solutions through logical and analytical thinking.

3. To able graduates to design embedded systems for industrial

applications.

4. To inculcate in graduates effective communication skills and team

work skills to enable them to work in multidisciplinary environment.

5. To prepare graduates for personal and professional success with

commitment to their ethical and social responsibilities.

6. To prepare graduates who are capable of maintaining and improving

their technical competence through life-long learning. The graduates

would have quest for knowledge enhancement through various

modes such as pursuing advanced degree programs, professional

Prof. KESHAV KRISHNA AGARWAL working as a professor in I.T. department, JECRC Jaipur and has also worked as a Professor and Head of Computer Engineering department in renowned institutes like College of Engineering & Technology Jalgaon, Oriental Institute of Science & Technology Bhopal, M.I.T. Mandsaur, ACEIT Kukas Jaipur. He has pursued Diploma from British Institute Bombay, M.C.A. from Kurukshetra University, M.Tech.(I.T.) from IASE Deemed University and a certificate from IIT Delhi. He has also obtained diploma in Business Management in First Division from Indian Council of Labour Management Chennai. He is pursuing Ph.D. in Computer Science from a renowned University Banasthali Vidyapeeth(NAAC Accredited A rank University). Our Department has set an exemplary placement record with its students being chosen by top companies in IT sector, every year. 45 students from IT were placed in the year 2010. Yes ! I got Placed !! Campus placement or campus interview is the programme conducted within our institute to provide jobs to students pursuing or in the stage of completing the programme. In this programme, industries visit the colleges to select students depending on their ability to work, capability, focus and aim. The major objective of campus placement is to identify the talented and qualified professionals before they complete their education. This process reduces the time for an industry to pick the candidates according to their need.

My college experience has helped me become good enough

I was never a nerd. I joined tuitions for GRE preparations when I was in Vth

semester, but always left them in the mid as I was not focused. Then, I joined Infosys

and was super excited to enter the corporate world. But as time progressed, I lost my

interest on the technical side and then came the time when I started to prepare for

GRE seriously. It was a big gamble as I had nothing to gain but a lot to lose i.e. a

well earning job and bright future as a system engineer. But, I am thankful to my

friends and my parents who supported my decision and allowed me to do what I

intended to. I got decent scores and got acceptance in all the 8 universities I had

applied to. I chose The University of Manchester as my next

destination. The exposure I got there is something incomparable and

unforgettable. I would conclude saying that success lies beneath you.

If you aspire to do something, don't let your dreams go. You may

face hurdles and people may try to discourage you, but it's up to

you that how you cope up with it and how determined you be!

I want to tell you one thing--To crack TCS interview is not a tough task. Only we need

to have self confidence and a little academic knowledge. Just be confident about what

you are saying. I was feeling very nervous before entering the interview room. But as

soon as I started answering the question I felt much confident.. Some

panels were very easy and some very tough. It depends on your luck for

which panel you are called forth. Have patience for your turn.

The moment my interview started, I went blank because I was nervous. I paused for a

smiled at me. This boosted my confidence. As the interview followed, I tried my best

to take it in the direction of discussing questions related to Computer Networks. And

then out of nowhere a mosquito sat on my neck and started biting me continuously! Of

all the things, I was really not prepared for this! But, I ignored the pain

and concentrated even more on the interview. My advice to you is that

problems do not come with a warning so be prepared and be clever and

EDC-IIPC Cell

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of JECRC, commonly known as EDC, has been established with the objective of creating, developing and promoting the fortitude for entrepreneurship among the JECRCians. The Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) of the college is a dedicated cell to promote the close interaction of industry and various departments of the institute.

Microsoft i-spark Centre

JECRC Innovation Academy was set up to foster innovation and to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship in its students. Microsoft signed an MOU with JECRC Innovation Academy, and it was renamed as Microsoft iSpark Centre. This was the first time that Microsoft joined hands for innovation alliance in India, providing a global outreach to JECRC students. Ms. Kimberly Voltero (Head, Microsoft’s Employability Programs for Students ) and Mr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Head-Academic Initiatives Microsoft India conducted workshop on “Students employability and Skills” .

Robolab

Robolab, the very first lab of Gridbots Technologies in Rajasthan was set up at Jaipur Engineering College and Research Centre in September, 2011. Gridbots Technologies is an incubated company of IIM Ahmedabad that develops robots for various renowned organizations including ISRO, International Nuclear Power Organization, Thermal Power Plants and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

Mr. Himanshu Goyal, Country Manager, Academic Initiative Developer Works & Globalization IBM Software India/South Asia, inaugurated the IBM Software Center of excellence at JECRC on 18th August 2010. With IBM joining hands with JECRC, training programs on IBM Tools(DB2 9, RAD, RFT) have been successfully conducted. The Great Mind Challenge (TGMC) by IBM India is the biggest national level software development competition as declared by Limca Book of World Records. In TGMC'09, JECRC, Jaipur was among the top 30 out of 1000 other colleges. IBM conducted a felicitation ceremony on May 12th, 2010 at Bengaluru. Ms. Neha Gupta, SPOC-IBM received the certificate and the memento of appreciation on behalf of JECRC.

INFOSYS

Our foundation added another feather in its cap by establishing MoU with INFOSYS in 2007. Every year, JECRCians can enrol themselves for the Infosys summer training called “Campus Connect” program. This program enhances technical skills, offers courseware, methodology

and educational experiences; a pre-requisite for placement drive. Our department has played a pivotal role in bringing the name of Infosys associated with JECRC. Hanish Bansal and Kapil Khubchandani (IV year, IT) were the Runner Ups at the regional level “HANDS ON” competition (Software development contest organized by INFOSYS) in October 2011 . Also, our respected faculties, Ms. Neha Gupta[HOD(IT)] and Ms. Mradula Sharma have often visited Infosys to attend conferences/workshops. The progress of department and students inextricably deals with the motivation of our respected faculties and their consistent hard work on students.

The reinvigoration of the company is regarded by many commentators as one of the greatest turnarounds in business history. In 2003, Jobs was diagnosed with a pancreas neuro-endocrine tumor. Though it was initially treated, he reported a hormone imbalance, underwent a liver transplant in 2009, appeared progressively thinner as his health declined. Darknet is a collection of un-indexed pages that means you can't access even not find all of them by searching. A recent estimation concluded that there are 600 terabytes of information in the darknet, beyond our expectation. Search engines like Google and Yahoo are just web spiders whose index pages following one hyperlink after the other. But there are some places where a spider cannot enter. Interestingly, any website that ends in ‘.onion’ are hosted as Tor (The Onion Router) hidden services – a completely anonymous way to host websites. They’re the part of the deep Web – an invisible part of the Web that is not visible to search engines and normal users.

How to Access? Firstly, you will need a special program called Tor which will allow you to view these pages. After downloading the Tor browser bundle, run the ‘.exe’ file to extract it and double-click the “Start Tor Browser.exe” file in the extracted folder. Tor will connect and launch its included browser. Tor doesn’t introduce you to ‘.onion’ sites when you start using it – it just provides an encrypted way to access the normal Web. To get started with .onion sites, you’ll have to be aware that they exist and know their location. HOW IS NANOTECHNOLOGY CHANGING THE WORLD ?

Nanotechnology is science, engineering, and technology conducted at the nano-scale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers. Nanoscience and nanotechnology are the study and application of extremely small things and can be used across all the other science fields, such as chemistry, biology, physics, materials science, and engineering. It wasn't until 1981, with the development of the scanning tunneling microscope that could "see" individual atoms, that modern nanotechnology began. It’s hard to imagine just how small nanotechnology is: •One nanometer is a billionth of a meter, or 10-9 of a meter. •There are 25,400,000 nanometers in an inch. •A sheet of newspaper is about 100,000 nanometers thick. •On a comparative scale, if a marble were a nanometer, then one meter would be the size of the Earth. Amazing Inventions Made Possible by Nanotechnology:- Nanotech Water Purifying Tea Bag: Researchers have used nanotechnology to create a water-purifying tea bag that costs just half a cent. In order to activate the tea bag, the user places it into the neck of a water bottle and then drinks water that passes through it. They combined ultra-thin nano-scale fibers with grains of activated carbon to filter harmful contaminants and kill bacteria. Artificial Muscles to Propel Nano-bots through the Body: Researchers from the University of British Columbia have developed artificial muscles that are extremely flexible and strong enough to rotate objects a thousand times their own weight. By spinning carbon nano-tubes into helical yarns, researchers were able to control the yarn with an electrochemical charge that causes them to twist and untwist.

Self-Heating Roads: Save Cars From Icy Conditions: When it comes unpredictable winter weather, maintaining safe driving conditions is a major concern. Luckily, over the past few years researchers at the University of Houston have made some great strides in turning the threat of icy roads into a worry of the past. Their self-heating roads are embedded with sheets of carbon nano-fiber that are warmed by an electrical element. It only takes two hours and 6 watts of power to take a block of concrete from -10 to 0 C. Future of Nanotechnology There is the possibility that the future of nanotechnology is very bright, that this will be the one science of the future that no other science can live without. This technology could end world hunger. Cancer cells would be identified, removed, and the surgical implantation of healthy cells would soon follow. Moreover, there would be an entire nano-surgical field to help cure everything from natural aging to diabetes to bone spurs. While this sounds like a promising future, the natural process of life and death would be completely interrupted. Without death, the world would become overpopulated and leave no place for the ecosystems that we rely on for our survival. We could potentially end up in a world that requires the personally controlled delivery of oxygen through tanks and masks. There is a possibility that the future of nanotechnology could also be the end of the science.
