Rus
Slide 3
Slide 4
Once upon a time between the Vistula and Oder rivers there
lived several tribes of Slavs. The head of the tribes were three
brothers: Lech, Czech and Rus.
Slide 5
Slide 6
One day the brothers Lech, Czech and Rus were wandering about
an ancient forest. They were looking for a place to settle
down.
Slide 7
Slide 8
Suddenly they saw a herd of deer in a clearing in the forest.
They strung their bows. The arrows whistled. The animals ran in all
directions. The brothers set off in pursuit of them. Lech to the
North, Czech to the South and Rus to the East. Czech founded the
Czech Republic and Rus, Russian state.

Slide 10
Lech hunted for a long time with his body-guard for the
beautiful deer. The stars lightened in the sky. After nightfall the
wanderers went to bed under an oak tree on a hill.
Slide 11
Slide 12
In the morning they were woken by the fluttering of wings. They
saw a huge eagle over them. The bird was sitting in a nest. The
eagles feathers shone in the sunshine.
Slide 13
Slide 14
Everybody was charmed by the beautiful sight. We will stay
here, said Lech to his friends. This is the most beautiful place in
the world. We will build a settlement here and a white eagle will
be our sign.
Slide 15
Slide 16
And so in the middle of the forest Lech built a castle. It was
called Gniezno, which became the first historical capital of
Poland, to remind them of the eagles nest.
Slide 17
Slide 18
The sign of White Eagle is held dear by every Pole. For over
one thousand years it has been cherished by children, grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
