FOREWORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF CAPEU

The graduate students from the two faculties (Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Syiah Kuala University and the Faculty of Languages and Communication of Sultan Idris Education University) had conducted excellent jobs to promote bilateral cooperation between the two universities in conducting the First Reciprocal Graduate Research Symposium in English Education conducted jointly at UPSI from February 26-28, 2016. The former Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Communication of UPSI, supported by the new Dean and Deputy Deans of the faculty, had shown her academic and research leaderships by developing such an important program, as a part of internalization of UPSI and as one of the 16 programs of the Consortium of Asia-Pacific Education Universities (CAPEU). It has been planned that the Second Reciprocal Graduate Research Symposium in English Education will be conducted at Syiah Kuala University in the first week of November 2016. The Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and the Rector of Syiah Kuala University are planning to expand the symposium. It will not only participated by the graduate students of the university but also by teachers of English teaching in the province. Graduate students of English Education from other universities in the province will also be invited. This will be a very good venue for UPSI to share its experiences in the teaching of English as a foreign language in Indonesia. The President of CAPEU urges that such collaborations should be developed between other faculties of the two universities. It is reported that other departments in the Faculty of Teaching Training and Education of Syiah Kuala University (SKU) and the Faculty of Human Sciences of Sultan Idris Education University (SIEU) are also planning to develop similar programs. The Head of the Department of Music and Arts and the Head of the Department of Sports and Health Sciences of SKU are seeking partnerships with the SIEU. Such collaborations should be increased to the level of internalization of SIEU and SKU as required by the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Research of Indonesia and also by the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia where international students' mobilization and dual degree programs are developed. We do hope that the next symposium at SKU will be a more successful one and the papers published in this proceeding are useful for students in the Department of English Education and for teachers of English in the two countries. FOREWORDS

FROM THE RECTOR OF SYIAH KUALA UNIVERSITY

The Department of English Education of Syiah Kuala University (SKU) had shown their best by presenting their research papers at the First Reciprocal Graduate Research Symposium at the founder and one of the partners of CAPEU (Consortium of Asia-Pacific Education Universities). SKU, as one of the members of the consortium, is happy with their performance at this international stage. Such a program is a part of internationalization programs of higher education institution as instructed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Research of Indonesia that leads to international students' mobilization and dual/double degree programs. I have assigned the Head of the Department of English Education and the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of our university to expand the program in the Second Reciprocal Graduate Research Symposium to be conducted at Syiah Kuala University in the first week of November 2016. The symposium should be opened, not only to the graduate students of SKU, but also to all teachers of English in the city of Banda Aceh and the Province of Aceh as a part of CAPEU contributions for the community. The programs should be promoted and informed to all stakeholders of English Education in the province. The Deputy Rector for Academics and Research of SKU has been working closely with the Department of English Education of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of SKU to motivate the students of the department to initiate more in depth researches in ESL and or EFL for the benefits of the department, the teachers and also students in teaching and acquiring English as a foreign languages. It is for this purpose that SKU develops an acoustic laboratory this year at the faculty where students at the Department of English Education intensify their studies on language teaching and learning. SKU encourages other faculties within the university to develop bilateral academic programs with the faculties within the Sultan Idris Education University. As the oldest university and the only education university in Malaysia, there will be more programs that can be developed between the two universities. The papers published in this proceeding will be very useful for lecturers, students and teachers of English language. Banda Aceh, 25 March 2016 PROF. DR. IR. SAMSUL RIZAL, M.ENG Rector/Deputy Secretary of CAPEU
