GREENFIELD HILL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT
MAY 28, 2017 9:00 AND 10:30 A.M.
Our Worship is central to our Service.
Our Service is central to our Worship.
We love kids! But sometimes services are too long for even the happiest child. So ... • For infants we have nursery care in the Church House, first floor. • For children from 3’s through 7th grade, we have Church School during our 9:00 hour. • And if your kids get restless, the Parlor (through the double doors) is a comfy place to go to,
with toys and a p.a. speaker that carries the service!
Please turn off your cell phones during worship … give yourself the gift of an hour of peace!

we forget those who prepared the way.
Forgive us, we pray. Lead us forward.

Worship of God through Prayer
Sharing our Joys and Concerns We welcome your prayer concerns. You may write them into the prayer request book
in the Narthex, or contact the pastors.
Pastoral Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer (using “debts/debtors”)
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
Worship of God through Giving: (Note: We give in many ways, by various means. Some give monthly, quarterly, yearly, credit
card, by mail or automatic withdrawals. Yet it is still important to “present our offerings” on the altar as part of genuine worship, our way of giving thanks to God.)

Fun, Interesting, Provocative…ALL are Welcome!
CHURCH NOTES WELCOME! … to worship at Greenfield Hill Church. For 300 years people have come
to our hilltop church to share in faith, to grow in faith, and to live in faith. Your presence
is an encouragement to all we do.
Visitors: We are glad you are with us today. Want to know more? Take a bag
home from our Visitors’ Table, just outside the front door! If you are interested in
joining this church, please just speak with Alida!
At our 9:00 a.m. service, you have been greeted by Deacon Seth Baratz and our
Junior Deacons Jack Flanagan and Maddy Abrahamson. At our 10:30 a.m.
service, you have been greeted by Deacon Seth Baratz, Junior Deacons
Samantha Dies and Robert Farruggio, and Junior Greeters Dash & Ephraim
Gilrain-Lennon. Helping out with our Church School this morning are Nicky
Allen, Hannah Amendola, Grace Badger, Max Chandler, and Garrett Cutler.
Our crib room helper today is Riley Kenney.
A note about children in worship: We love them! But if you’d prefer to enjoy
worship on your own, our Church Nursery for infants-toddlers is across the street in the Church House. Special beepers/pagers are available to parents so that they
may be quietly contacted during the worship service if their child misses them! If
your child in worship becomes restless or unhappy, please make use of the Parlor
(through the double doors by the choir loft, or head outside and through the side
doors). There is a comfortable space there for your child to play with toys and a speaker which carries the service!
The flowers on the communion table are given by Cindi Bigelow in loving
memory of her dearest friend Beth Davis. Beth's spirit lives on in so many of our
hearts.
At our 10:30 Sacrament of Baptism today, we welcome Dylan Michael
Murphy. Dylan was born on October 13, 2016. Dylan’s parents are Daniel &
Kiera Murphy; paternal grandparents are Lynne Murphy and William Murphy,
and maternal grandparents are Rick & Adele Higgins. Dylan’s godparents are
Rich Higgins, Duke & Laura Marsh, and John & Carolina Murphy. The Deacons present a yellow rose to the family in honor of Dylan’s baptism today.

CHURCH AND COMMUNITY NOTES
Summer at GHCC! Summer is exciting. When you go away, have a great time!
But when you are around, you can count on our church life to be inspiring. Here
are four ways you can help this summer:
1) Are you an artist? We are looking for “Faith Art” – any art that expresses
faith in any way. Each Sunday this summer, we will share a piece of
artwork in the Sanctuary.
2) Youth Musicians: we would love to feature you at a Summer Sunday service
3) Flowers: We like to have flowers on the altar all summer, from our gardens!
Cut a few from home, come on in, place them on our altar.
4) Our outdoor 8:15 worship service needs you to share in leadership! We still
have a few openings, particularly in August, for individuals or families to
lead one of our informal, outdoor services. The ministers are here to give
you plenty of guidance! Contact Seth Baratz if you’re willing to think
about: [email protected]
Summer Worship Helpers Sought! -- One of the best
traditions in our church, our lay-led services take place
each summer Sunday at 8:15 a.m. on the Church House
lawn. These services are a chance for individuals or
families in the church to have fun sharing their faith and their thoughts in worship. We are looking for people to help lead these summer
services! The pastors are very happy to sit with you and help plan, so you are
absolutely not on your own. A great way to get closer to God and your faith, a
great project for a family to do together! Please be in touch with Deacon Seth
Baratz at [email protected] to express your interest!
The Greenfield Hill Cemetery love and care effort has begun! The information
session and our first work day were both great fun. 1 more volunteer day is on
the calendar! Greenfield Hill's "old burial ground", our church's ancient 'cemetery' (just a half-mile away on Bronson) needs your attention. Our own Jeff
Taylor has taken the lead in restoring the cemetery, and is eager to share what
he's learned, and to invite you all to join in. •Change: Jonathan Appell master
preservationist will join us on Saturday June 3. 8 am – 3 pm. Please contact Jeff
with your interest and questions at 978-760-1103 or [email protected]
Explore Faith/Conversations with a Buddhist Monk at Grace Farms on Friday
evening, June 2. We have a true treasure of architecture, peace and beauty in
8
New Canaan—it’s called Grace Farms and the River Walk, with over 70 acres of
pristine land and an imaginative set of glass buildings winding up a scenic
hillside. The Adult Education Board wants to call your attention to an event
happening on Friday, June 2, 7-9 PM in the amazing all-glass Sanctuary,
Conversations with a Buddhist Monk. Please contact Sandy Timmerman if you are
interested, at [email protected] -- and to learn more about the
event, visit gracefarms.org .

honor all our soldiers who have been killed in our wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq. You will be glad you did. (we’ll need
help on July 15th at 9am to take them down too)
Contribute to the costs (replacement flags, name board,
materials, etc), made out to “GHCC”, noting “Field of Flags”,
or a cash gift. You can give any contribution to the Church
Office, the Pastors, or Jerry Hood.

CELEBRATING THE BAPTISMS OF
DYLAN MICHAEL MURPHY
Introduction
Parents’ Prayer (Daniel & Kiera): Kind God, bless our journey of faith with
Dylan. May all that we say, and all that we are, lead him towards a strong and sure faith in you. Help us to teach him to follow in the way of Love which Jesus
showed to us. In your name we pray. Amen.
Godparents’ Promise (Rich, Duke & Laura, and John & Carolina):
Do you promise to be loving friends to Dylan, and faithful companions on
his life’s journey? We do.
Will you show him, in word and deed, what it means to live as a child of
God, caring and compassionate? We will.
And will you listen to his questions, share in his wonder, and help him to
find God in every moment of his life? We will!
Congregation’s Prayer: Thank you, O Lord, for the joy of each child, of new
life, of Dylan’s presence in our church. You have told us to treasure each child,
to personally value childhood and childlikeness. We promise to carry Dylan in
our hearts always, and pray for his life of joy. Amen.
Baptism
Song of Welcome: Welcome, Dylan, welcome, see our hands reach toward you,
Did you hear our promise to care, to teach, to love you?
Welcome, Dylan, welcome, to God’s house today
Now you are invited to learn, to love, to pray.
