Are Third Party SaaS Vendors Ready To Replace Custom Enterprise Solutions
Technology
The “cloud” is the new hip word that everyone drops it around as though they invented it. To be
honest, the image isn’t too difficult to grasp, to most people the internet and the cloud are are
equivalent. But, a simple query such as - why is the interwebs referred to using the word cloud,
will leave them speechless. The reality is, networking veterans, a decade ago, started using a
cloud like figure to represent the networking infrastructure that lies between interacting
computers at the ends. So, technically, the cloud is a representation of the networking
infrastructure that helps tranfer data between the numerous machines that are a part of the cloud.
The global network of computers, webservers, routers, gateways, optic fibre cables etc. together
make up the cloud and thus, by extension, the internet.
So, what’s the big buzz? The cloud is the future, beckoning us to join. Robust and pervasive
connectivity as provided by optic and wireless channels, keeping a track of the massive flow of
bits and bytes is critical. The modern cloud is just a rehash, with some refinement, of the
technology that has existed in the enterprise for some time. With the advent of web2.0 and social
media the cloud has now become essential in not just the enterprise market but the consumer
market as well.
Customised , integrated applications are the still the way to go for large enterprises. This like
most things, has some cons , not to mention the need to maintain a fleet of personnel to manage
and maintain the servers and applications.
Oracle is a prominent player in the enterprise market. Their database solutions are some of the
best in the world. In fact, if you plan to deploy for enterprise applications, you might want to get
some advice from reputed database consultant, especially for oracle database consulting. This
Technology
part is critical because, a well secured and failure proof database can help you mine data, analyze
trends and more; information after all, is power.
The new and future tend is the rise of software as a service cloud hosted
solutions. The drive towards migrating everything to the cloud is very
powerful. Cloud based solutions are mighty efficient for medium and small
business, upcoming startups etc. who cannot afford to set up their own server farms. Add to that
that the competition ensures that the quality of such applications keeps climbing. You don’t have
to bother with security and maintenance hassle, just make sure you are clear on the service
provider’s data policies, and make backups.
