THE LONG NIGHT Night Elie Wiesel MAN VS. MAN Elie’s father doesn’t want him to study Kabbalah. MAN VS. MAN The Jews have to endure the hatred of the German army. MAN VS. SOCIETY Madame Schächter has to face everyone who thinks she is crazy for seeing the fire. MAN VS. SELF Madame Schächter believes that there is a fire when there really isn’t one. MAN VS. DIETEY Elie believes that God is letting this happen and he shouldn’t let it be. MAN VS. MAN Elie has to deal with other prisoners who think that they are better than everyone else. MAN VS. SELF Everyone of the prisoners have to deal with severe hunger. MAN VS. MAN Elie’s father has to deal with Idek punching him and slinging him onto the ground. MAN VS. SELF Elie is worried that his father will not pass the selection process. MAN VS. NATURE Elie and the other prisoners begin to suffer from the cold. MAN VS. SELF / MAN VS. MAN The prisoners have to run in the cold and they have to hold up and not slow down or they will get shot by an SS officer. MAN VS. SELF Everyone has to keep awake because falling asleep will end up deathly. MAN VS. MAN The prisoners kill each other for food.
