PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Our Schools Spectacular group will be heading off to

Sydney next Tuesday accompanied by Mrs Kelly and Mrs

MacGregor. Our students will be travelling with students

from Ben Venue Public School and are excited about this

wonderful opportunity. Thank you to parents and community

members for their support of this once in a lifetime

experience. Our students will perform on Friday night as

part of the biggest ever Schools Spectacular.

Last week our Years 5 and 6 students went on their

Newcastle excursion – thank you to Mrs MacGregor, Mrs

Kelly, Ms Joyce, Mr Townsend and Mr MacGregor for

volunteering their own time to ensure students have this

tremendous opportunity available to them and for the hard

work they put into preparing the excursion. From all

reports students thoroughly enjoyed everything they did

and have enjoyed reporting back about their experiences

this week.

Congratulations to Sam who is off to Sutherland to

represent North West in cricket next week.

If parents have any friends who are thinking about where

their child may commence schooling in 2017 please

encourage them to contact the school office. Parents who

have children for Kindergarten 2017 should also let the

office know if they have not already done so. It has been

wonderful to see the happy, smiling faces of our 2017

Kindergarten students during our orientation program – we

look forward to seeing you all in Kindergarten in 2017.

Last Saturday Armidale City Public School staff ran a stall

at the Black Gully Community Festival. We would like to

thank community members who supported our involvement in

this event.

Tickets are currently available for purchase in a raffle for

a quilt handmade by Mrs Woods raising funds for Canteen

and the Schools Spectacular group. Mrs Woods will be

selling tickets from her room on Wednesday, Thursday and

Friday this week, cost is $1 per ticket.

Please feel free to send me an email at any time on the

address below. Enjoy the rest of the week everyone.

1/2J CLASS NEWS We have had some very exciting learning activities last

week. Firstly, Josie brought in her brother’s pet…..a

Simpson Python called Flash. Thankfully it was only a baby

and was about 30cm long. It had such beautiful patterning

on its skin. Flash had recently shed her skin and it was quite

active twirling around Josie’s hands as she explained how to

look after snakes.

The next wonderful learning opportunity came when Mr

Commens worked with our class using the new Ozobots.

These are little robots with eyes that read colours. Our job

was to write a narrative that had at least three locations

and then transfer the verbs and adverbs in our story into

colour codes. We then drew tracks that were made from

our plots of our stories and incorporated the special

directional codes for the robot. We then turned the robot

on and it read our paths and went to the different locations

we had drawn and written about. It was amazing!!!! We

would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Commens for

teaching us about this new technology.
