The Modern WomanBy Amelia Macgregor

“Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed.  If I fail, no one will say, "She doesn't have what it takes."  They will say, "Women don't have what it takes."  Clare Boothe Luce

The Modern Woman

Duel–income families are now the norm.

In our Canadian Society half of the employed population are female.

– In 1960 less than 20% of married women were in the work field.

What has

Legendary Positions

CHANGED?

Who will suffer due to the new “modern woman”?

Will the pre-school child suffer?

“Ma’ma?”

“Mommy?”

“Mom?”

Will the youth suffer?

Will the teen suffer?

59% of men and 67% of women agreed that an employed mother can establish just as warm and secure a relationship with their children as a mother who stays home.

However….

Over half those surveyed agreed that a pre-school child will suffer if both parents are employed.

If our children are suffering due to Canadian mothers desire to work, then why do women persist with a career in vain of her child’s emotional needs?

There are many reasons….

Society has changed….

Economics have changed…

Expectations have changed…

Women have changed.

Societyhaschanged

Economicshavechanged

Life today in our modern western society is expensive.

In order to have luxuries, a duel income can seem unavoidable

“North America has devoted the last 50 years to acquiring high-priced gadgets, appliances, TV’s and cars.”

– Karen Hall “Just how much is enough”

Expectationshavechanged

Who has changed?

Women have changed.

Our ideas and experiences shape the world around us as we change as a whole, and although the traditional role of women in North America is fading, its impact can not yet be foreseen completely. Knowing nature and looking at the past, it can be assumed that we will adapt.
