Sad News For those of you who may not have caught up with this piece of sad news, Teacher John Burgan’s wife Bev,

passed away last Thursday evening after a long illness. Although the passing was expected, this in no way

lessens the shock and sadness brought on by such an occurrence, and we know that John will be experi-

encing a great emptiness in his life just now.

I know I speak for all of Mt. Dandenong Primary School’s staff, students and community when I extend our

condolences and deepest sympathy to John and his family at this time.

Bev’s funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday at St Michael’s and All Angels Church, Mount Dandenong

Tourist Road, Kalorama. Of course there will be several staff members who wish to attend, and I do not

wish to impede their desire to support John and to show their respects in this way. This will create some

disturbance to the normal afternoon program at our school, with some splitting up of classed and with

students being looked after by different teachers. Alternatively, you may wish to collect your children at

lunch time on Thursday. I am sure that you will all understand and forgive this disruption.

Trivia Not so Trivial I have never seen anything so slick and well run in all my years of attending school fund raising events!

Saturday’s 80s Music Trivia Night “went off” with a huge bang. Unfortunately I was only there for a couple

of hours, but the degree of planning and work that went into the event was obvious from the start. Sacha

and his crew just did a spectacular job, starting months ago with the collection of auction items – not to

mention the development of the presentation.

The event raised an amazing $9,000! Thank you so much to all who had a part in the night – by helping to

put it on and by attending.

A Bit of a Grumble I have been asked to remind everyone that the parking area at the front of the school along Fardons Rd. is

for drop off and pick up only. The sign there says that the time limit is 3 minutes, but there are some par-

ents who repeatedly ignore this limitation and spend a great deal of time parked there while they talk to

friends. This makes it difficult for others to use the drop off/pick up area correctly and this effects safety as

they try to pull up in inappropriate spots along the road. Please obey the signs so that everyone can be

safe.

purpose room here at school. The show will run for 4 nights, beginning on Tuesday 6 th September and is

In Numeracy, we learnt about six different types of angles. They are Acute Angle, Right Angle, Obtuse Angle,

Straight Angle, Reflex Angle and Revolution Angle. Using these angles, we created angle houses. We drew a

house of choice and labelled all the different angles. We then measured the angles using a protractor.

In Term 2 and 3, we have been focusing on different types of poetry. In

particular, we have looked at Riddles, Concrete Poems (poems written in

the shape of the topic) and Acrostic Poems. We used poetry to describe

what we did on our holidays. We now have a deeper understanding of

poetry in 5/6L.

Oh what a night! More than 12 months ago, one man had a dream ….. a music themed trivia night. Not only would it be fun, but he in-

sisted it would bring money for the school. Month after month he raised his idea at the school’s fundraising committee

meetings only to be told, “One day Sacha, one day ….”.

On Saturday night, Sacha’s dream was realised. The theme was ‘80s, the fashion was extreme and the crowd was rar-

ing to go. Among the fun and frivolity, the biggest winner is our school. We raised $9000, which absolutely exceeded

expectations. Definitely a triumph!

So a big shout out and “thank you” to Sacha Sullivan (aka Mr Run DMC

on the mic) who’s enthusiasm for the night was contagious. And whilst

we know that everyone was keen to help and support the night, we

would like to make mention of those without whom the night would not

have been such a success. The list is long, and our appreciation ever-

grateful:

Jackie Monteith(Sullivan) and Sharyn Johnston, (aka as the “prize angels”) for gathering all the prizes;

Kylie Gilson, Sharyn Johnston, Megan Ferguson and Jackie Monteith (Sullivan) for packaging up all the prizes;

Leigh Burgess for the designing the template for the powerpoint and on-going technical support;

Damian Vernon for sound and technical support;

Dan Leonard for lighting and styling the mulita;

The fundraising committee led by indefatigable Prez Kylie Gilson;

Set up and running of the night - Megan Ferguson, Jackie Monteith (Sullivan), Colleen Forward and Kylie Gilson;

The Sunday cleanup crew - Kylie Gilson, Megan Ferguson, Lilly Markovic, Shauna King, Colleen Forward, Sacha

Sullivan, Jackie Monteith (Sullivan), Phil Cuthbert, Damian Vernon, Kirsten Vernon, Leigh Burgess, Brad Forward

and all the kids who helped especially Elsa Leonard; The McPeake, Mikulcic, Common (Discipline) and Gilson Families for donating the bulk of the major auction

prize;

Scott Allison for auctioneering on the night;

Julie Francis for co-ordinating ticket sales, staying until late and taking payments at the end of the night, printing

what was needed and ……just being exceptionally accommodating;

Please check your 80s costume and see if you have acquired an extra piece of clothing!

Someone’s prized black leather jacket (size 8) went missing on Saturday night.
