The Dust BowlJust as some of the programs began helping

farmers, a severe drought hit the Great Plains.

Farmers watched their soil turn to dust in the hot sun.

High winds caused dust storms, leaving the land unusable.

Much of the Great Plains became known as the Dust Bowl.

Places like Dodge City, Kansas were hit hard by the Dust Bowl.

Many people became migrant workers moving from place to place to find work.

the country to see how the New Deal was working.

Photographer Dorothea Lange took pictures of people coping with the depression.

John Steinbeck wrote books about living in the 1930’s and the Great Depression.

Entertainment During Hard TimesThe New Deal helped many, but it did not end

the depression.People looked for ways to forget about their

troubles.One new form of entertainment was the
