Ways to Make a Number Today’s Number Mental Math

Counting Around the Circle - Start with any number, state the rule ( +2, -3, x4,etc)

-  Everyone in the circle states the next number in

-  the pattern - - Estimate what number the last

person might say

Ten Wand -  Make a “ten wand” with 5 red and 5 green linking cubes

-  Break the wand into two pieces, hide 1 behind your back

-  - Students look at the part visible, and

-  determine the hidden part

- Decompose into expanded notation
