…that it is never too early to save for college! Every little bit helps. Personally speaking, I only recently began depositing money in my grandchildren’s college accounts, and they are almost all teenagers. It would have been easier to have started earlier. For details, go to: www.oaklandpromise.org/k2c and click on UESPK2C sign up. We will also have directions for signups in the office. There will be a visit to Cal on April 21, 2018.

SSC and Student Achievement: We are also involved in evaluating and making plans for our Site Plan for Student Achievement . We are meeting with the staff and the SSC to review what Kaiser’s areas of major focus should be next year as well as the next 3 years. Once we have determined those goals, sometime in late February, we will receive our budget allocations from the district and then we will know best how to allocate those funds, based on our focus needs. The School Site Council meeting is scheduled for February 14 at 4:00 PM.

Please know that we are anxious to hear from you about any concerns you may have. We truly believe in open communication at Kaiser. My email address is: [email protected] and a message can be left at (510) 549-4900.

~ Kate McLane, interim Principal Kaiser Elementary

Thank you for your encouragement and participation in The Great Kindness Challenge! Dedicated to creating a culture of kindness on campuses nationwide, the Kaiser kindness was impressive last week! In total, students completed over 2,880 RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS! Students contemplated ways to be kind to themselves, their peers, and the world through classroom curriculum, art, and music. Paper chains lined the hallway to explain how our kind actions can impact others and set off a chain reaction. Each link signified student’s ideas of acts of kindness. A kindness tree grew acknowledging each act of kindness students witnessed throughout the week. We also took a schoolwide photo in the shape of a heart! In a time where our world needs it most,

let’s continue to show the world that kindness matters! National Random Acts of Kindness Day, a day to practice kindness and pay it forward, is February 17th !

Greetings Kaiser Families,

Although there has been a bit of scheduling and rescheduling, we are still hoping to see everyone THIS Thursday, February 1st, at 6:30pm for our next PTA Association meeting. Don’t forget to RSVP on Konstella so that we can provide enough delicious pizza for everyone. Tane Ross, our fabulous VP of Programing has once again worked hard too arranged child care on site, and after dinner, we will be all set to go. The focus of the meeting will be to select members to serve on the Nomination Committee. This committee will be responsible for recruiting those who will serve on next year’s Kaiser PTA Board. Prior to the committee appointments, we will be hearing from Jennifer Le Barre and Mary Ledezma, OUSD representatives who have worked with the contractors and architects to design and install Kaiser’s new finishing kitchen. Our own Kaiser parent, Rebecca Kaplan will also be on hand to share progress on the student inspired art that will soon adorn the front of the new kitchen. Jennifer and Mary may offer us a brief tour of the installation as well.

~ Linda Handy, PTA President

Hello Kaiser Families!

Get ready for Kaiser ALIVE! “A.L.I.V.E” stands for being Active, Learning, Initiating, Volunteering and getting Energized! If you are new to Kaiser this year, Kaiser ALIVE is a 4-6 week extra-curricular program that the PTA presents in the Spring of each year. Our annual Kaiser ALIVE challenge promotes a healthy, active lifestyle by encouraging students to initiate and participate in all kinds of activities, to engage in volunteer projects and to learn new things--all while having lots of fun! Each child will receive a booklet filled with ideas for all sorts of activities that they can participate in. They will need your help signing off on their accomplishments, and every now and then, in taking them to a new park or helping them accomplish a goal that inspires them. Students accumulate points for each activity over the course of the six-week period. The program culminates in our year-end Kaiser ALIVE picnic at Lake Temescal in June. There will be recognition rewards for participating and various incentives for students who accumulate lots of points.

items? These are fun, creative, and popular community-building events and we are in need of a volunteer to manage the procurement of a selection of these items.

q Event Sponsorships -- Also a key piece to our important event. We’ve got a list of potential sponsors (And perhaps you know of more?) but need help reaching out.

q Thank You Notes -- The donations are rolling in and we need assistance expressing our gratitude to our generous donors. Anyone(s) out there with some time to assist?

q Donations -- Perhaps your work can offer a gift certificate? Or maybe you know of an organization that would be a good fit for Kaiser?

I'm excited to announce the return of the Wine Vault to the Kaiser Auction. Through this popular event, Kaiser families donate bottles of wine (minimum $15 for white, $20 for red), which are raffled off to a lucky winner the night of the Auction. It's one of the high points of the evening and I'm looking forward to continuing the tradition.

This year we are pleased to announce that Vino! wines, located at 4027 Piedmont Ave, has agreed to maintain a wine registry so that we have a varied selection of quality wines. Just stop by Vino anytime between now and March 1 and let them know you'd like to donate a bottle to the Kaiser Auction. Their staff will help you select a bottle and will collect it from you.

As in years past, we will also be picking up bottles at drop-off time February 12th-14th. If you elect to bring a wine from a wine club, another merchant, or your personal stash, please adhere to the price minimums so we can ensure a quality collection.
