During the Summer term all the children at St Faith’s had the opportunity to participate in a poetry competition as part of the Canterbury Festival. Each child planned, wrote and edited their own poem and we had a wonderful variety of themes and topics from across the school. The poems were initially judged by class teachers and a huge bundle was sent off in July. Out of 1100 entries sent off to the competition from the local area, we have four winners! Krish B acheived a gold award, Charley W a silver award, Maisie B a silver award and George A a highly commended in their respective age categories. This is an impressive achievement, highlighting the talent we have in our school and the encouragement that all the children receive as they develop their literacy skills. Congratulations again to Krish, Charley, Maisie and George for your fantastic poetry! FRIENDS OF ST FAITH’S On Monday a meeting was held to nominate a new Chairman of Friends and to further discuss forthcoming events, and fund-raising. I am happy to inform you it was a successful meeting, positions were allocated and we now have a strong team of both committee members and helpers. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Rebecca Smith, retiring Chair, for all her hard work over the years and for offering to help the new committee over the coming year. And now over to the new Chair... Vicky Crocker Emma Batchelor 07724 917030 07971 014821 We would like to introduce ourselves as the new co-chairs of the Friends of St Faith's. Together we will work with the committee to organise fund raising events for the school. The first of these is the Fireworks evening on Saturday 28 October, the last Saturday of Half-Term. Tickets will be available soon. We would love for more of you to join us this year. Organisation of events is far more successful when the workload is shared. The outcome of these events benefit all our children. This year our fund raising efforts will be put towards providing wonderful new play equipment. If you could spare some time to support us please do get in touch. Roles vary from setting up events, helping on a stall or just giving your input to help plan events that run smoothly and effectively. Please do email or call if you have questions or would like to join us, you will be warmly welcomed. Our next meeting will be on Monday October 2 after drop off at 8.30am in the meeting room at school. Please remember to sign in at the office first. We look forward to meeting any new members and welcome your input. Head’s Corner At the blink of an eye and we are at the end of the second week of term already. It has all been so productive with auditions for the choirs and orchestras as well as the building of teams to start the matches next week. Foundations are being solidly laid, not just in the classroom but in the halls and games fields of the whole school to prepare for what will undoubtedly be a very challenging and enjoyable year.

We would like to introduce ourselves as the new co-chairs of the Friends of St Faith's. Head’s Corner

At the blink of an eye and we are at the end of the second week of term already. It has all been so productive with auditions for the choirs and orchestras as well as the building of teams to start the matches next week. Foundations are being solidly laid, not just in the classroom but in the halls and games fields of the whole school to prepare for what will undoubtedly be a very challenging and enjoyable year.

FRENCH

An exciting day for our new Year 1 learners, they received their first French folder and Jolie Ronde workbooks full of stories and activities. They will hear about Minou le Chat and Trottine la Souris, be introduced to ‘Toy’ characters and have lots of fun along the way! Their sessions are filled with action songs, rhymes and numerous interactive games, full of useful vocabulary….exhausting mais fantastique !

Habitats for Year 4 “I love learning outside!” chipped Thomas as Year 4 made their way towards the school garden. This term’s first Science topic of Habitats was about to begin with a bang! 4A and 4M searched around the school looking at micro-habitats and the mini-beasts found there. Before setting off the children learnt about the qualities of a good observer and armed with paint brushes, plastic spoons and paper (to ensure delicate handing) we set off. Logs and stones were turned over (and then carefully replaced) hedges were scoured with eagle eyes and the children stood as still as statues next to wild flowers to catch glimpses of butterflies. Pictures were taken of the different mini-beasts found and then the classes retired back to their classrooms to record their findings. First they made detailed drawings of the little critters and then they recorded information on the micro-habitat they were found in. At the end of the lesson they took their learning a step further creating classification keys to separate the different mini-beasts found. The children thought carefully and asked scientific questions to differentiate the beasts. What an excellent afternoon of learning!

ART CLUB

The new term starts with a new art club, run by Miss Allen on Thursdays after school. September brings us the artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, in time and theme for our Harvest Festival in October. From 2D to 3D there are lots of exciting things to be created. Take a sneaky look at some of their art work so far.

Music Lessons at St Faith’s Alongside the curriculum music lessons which all children have, many children have an individual music lesson as well. There are currently 111 children taking 139 lessons. This means that 53% of all children at St Faith’s currently have an individual lesson with our team of visiting, peripatetic music teachers. Lessons are offered in the following…Piano, Upper strings (violin and viola), Lower strings (cello) Brass (trumpet, French horn, trombone etc),Woodwind (saxophone, flute, clarinet, oboe etc),Drumming, Guitar and ukulele, Singing and Music Theory. Then the beginnings of our orchestra.
