Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the Christmas Fair - from Santa and his helpers to stall holders, wrappers, packers, car park attendants, BBQ chefs and those people who came to browse and purchase presents and refreshments. These events are truly a team effort between teachers and parents and I am delighted to say that the unaudited accounts suggest that we raised around £1,000 as a result. Time for a break and a mince pie or two! Vicky and I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy festive break. We look forward to seeing you next term. Best festive wishes Emma [email protected] (07971 014821) [email protected] (077249 17030) Tis the season to be jolly...Clap, Dance, Shout Hooray, Upper Nursery begin their play! Upper Nursery began the Christmas festivities by performing their nativity to their parents, relatives and friends. Over the last 6 weeks, each child has learnt their songs and enjoyed dressing up in beautiful costumes in preparation for their big day. The children performed with confidence and enthusiasm and clearly showed their enjoyment by the smiles on their little faces. Many proud parents commented on how well the children behaved. Following on, Lower Nursery had their chance to shine as they sang along to traditional favourites such as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and Away in a Manger. With the help of children from the Upper School they donned their robes, dressed as sheep and angels and excitedly took to the stage, first time for these little 2 year olds, and shine they did. Reception then had their time in the spotlight and produced the most sparkling Nativity, Shine Star, Shine! This was a delightful take on the traditional Christmas story with a star taking the lead. The big star needs to show the way to the stable where a special baby has been born, but theres one problem; she cant shine. Her friends, the other stars, try all they can to make her believe she can shine and when they lead her to the stable to see the baby she realises that Jesuslove will give her the strength to shine again. We have also had trips to the High View Oast Nursing Home. Residents were thrilled to be entertained by our younger children from Reception (a first for them) who sang them a collection of Christmas Carols, and later they were enchanted by the chamber choir. 50 years of Christingle was celebrated during the final week of school, together with our final carol service of the year, which is always a very special treat. During our last week of term, we have had a most delicious Christmas lunch, complete with crackers and comedy moustaches; Sycamores House treat, Years 1 and 2 entertained their parents with a very special Christmas spectacular; and to conclude, a professional theatre company visited to perform Aladdin, a very funny Pantomime. Wow! What a week. Some very happy but tired children will be coming home tonight still, hopefully, wearing their Christmas jumpers. Heads Corner For some of us the end of the Autumn Term heralds the new task of having to go Christmas shopping, and that is an event I for one am not looking forward to. However I have been thrilled to see the delighted faces of the children throughout the past week enjoying Christmas lunch, the Panto and of course one or two class parties with endless cookies and cake. The Carol Service has always been my favourite event and this year was no exception. St Nicholas Church looked even more beautiful and majestic, adorned with our lovely purple and gold army singing and reading with a confidence way beyond their years. As usual the event was incredibly well supported and the church was packed out with standing room only. Our singing is magnificent at the best of times but the acoustics in the church only amplified the sound of our amazing choir. The time passed all too quickly and with a real feel goodfactor we all retired that evening ready and eager to start our family festive activities. Have a lovely holiday and please do stay safe, especially on the roads.

Tis the season to be jolly...Clap, Dance, Shout Hooray, Upper Nursery begin their play! Head’s Corner

For some of us the end of the Autumn Term heralds the new task of having to go Christmas shopping, and that is an event I for one am not looking forward to. The time passed all too quickly and with a real ‘feel good’ factor we all retired that evening ready and eager to start our family festive activities. Have a lovely holiday and please do stay safe, especially on the roads.

THE BRILLIANT BISCUIT BONANZA! – A Year 5 STEAM Project Over the last few weeks, as part of our STEAM work (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Maths), the Year 5 children have all taken part in this amazing challenge. Their objective was to work as a team in order to design and create delicious, attractive biscuits that would be sold at the Christmas Fair. These business figures of the future were encouraged to brainstorm popular biscuits in the current market and then agree on a design. With an allocated budget they had to list their ingredients and consider the likelihood of profit if all were sold at the fair. The children worked incredibly hard and with the hands on support of Mrs Rosenz they created some wonderful designs. All their beautifully decorated biscuits were sold at the fair, with the winning team selling all of their biscuits for £30.05. All profits from the biscuit sales will be used for the next exciting STEAM project for the children at St Faith’s.

Maths Last Wednesday afternoon, four courageous mathematicians travelled to the Semi-Finals of the Maths Competition held in Sainsbury's in Westwood Cross. They were given a conundrum to make numberlines, which upon folding would make specific totals when the integers on each fold were added together. The only problem was, they weren't told which number to begin or end with! Fifty-five minutes of team work ensued with debate, changes of opinion and finally a conclusion! The children were praised on their resilience, team work, work ethic and time management. Although close, they didn’t make it to the finals this time. Well done team!

Christmas Fair raises funds for Christmas Charities The much loved Friends Christmas Fair was not just about fun, but indeed thinking of others, and each house had a creative stall which raised the following funds for their chosen charities. Ash £32.65 WaterAid Beech £220.00 Books2Africa Oak £153.16 Great Ormond Street Sycamore £77.99 Disasters Emergency Committee Olivia, Poppy and Zara – Slime and Aquabeads Sales – for PlanUK Child £107.85

Unbelievable discoveries! Studying the environment, Year 2 undertook a litter survey in our beautiful village of Ash. First, they turned left out of the school and walked up to the bus stop. Predicting that they wouldn't find any litter, they were amazed to find pieces of plastic scattered on the pavement, 2 pieces of glass which were near a drain, four tins at the side of the road and 22 pieces of paper scattered on the pavement and by the house walls! Feeling quite upset about this, Year 2 then went down to where the shops are. Walking down towards the pizza shop was even worse! Plastic bottles again! More paper and more drinks tins! Perhaps Ash needs eco-warriors like our school. That way Ash would be as clean and tidy as our school! Thank you eco-warriors.

A visit to High View Oast Care Home captivates the elderly residents. Full of anticipation and excitement, Reception visited High View Oast Care Home in Ash. The children were very thrilled to be greeted by the newest resident, Esmee the cat, who has recently been adopted by the staff. Dressed in our costumes we were delighted to perform our Nativity songs which we ended with renditions of Away in a Manger and We wish you a Merry Christmas. Meena from Year 6 and Josh from Year 5 were wonderful ambassadors for the school as they not only accompanied us but also performed solos on the piano and violin. Our visit ended with squash and yummy mince pies before returning to school.

READING SHELF

The following children completed reading shelves this week:

Lily Read, Arnav Siddappa

Achievements outside of school Deal Music and Arts. Congratulations to these two boys who participated fully in a very busy and creative weekend with professional musicians and students with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. They were recognised for their efforts both musically and for their

impeccable behaviour throughout the weekend.

From Chamber Choir to Cathedral Choir. It's not often Mr Groves is pleased when a pupil leaves the school but he is very proud of this young member of our Chamber Choir who has gained a place in the choir at St Paul's Cathedral in London and will be going there as a boarder in January. He had to do two auditions and impressed not only with his singing but also with his piano playing and on the French Horn (no wonder with Mr Ainsworth as his teacher!). His great musical start at St

Faith's is going to be the springboard to some fantastic opportunities. You're a victim of your own success, Mr G!

A beautiful Carol Service There was no shortage of quality singing during the annual Carol Service last night. In the beautiful setting of our village church, the children sang extremely well and the lessons were read confidently. The tone was set by Krish's unaccompanied first verse of 'Once in Royal David's City', followed by a starring role for the Chamber Choir and another solo, expertly sung by Alexandra. The youngest performers were the children of Year 3 who sang the first verse of 'Away in a Manger' and there was a second-ever performance of 'Herod and the Innocents', along with more traditional carols and beautifully-performed descants. Thank you to those children who came along, particularly those not part of the Choir. It was lovely see the church so full. Happy Christmas everyone!

ABRSM EXAM SUCCESS These children were all successful in their ABRSM Grade 2 and Grade 3 Theory examinations. They all worked extremely hard in preparation for their exams

- congratulations to all of them!

Head Girl’s Message from Celebration Assembly

As a Head Girl, I feel it is my duty to talk about bullying. Sometimes you may feel that you don’t like someone but it’s never ok to disrespect, make fun of or exclude others. We are a kind school, a family: Be strong, but not rude, Be kind, but not weak, Be bold, but not bully, Be humble but not too shy, Be proud, but not a show-off Kindness is everything.
