The Defeasance From Pastor Donna…
What does defeasance mean? The word defeasance is an antiquated word for a document which
terminates the effect of an existing writing. Why would you use that word, pastor? Because this is the last
time I will be putting into words an article for the newsletter. As the Staff Parish considered evaluations and
job descriptions it was clear to the committee that it was time to move to a more up to date form of com-
munication. We will be seeking to send at least one and sometimes two emails for the week. We will still e-
mail and call those that would like to have the information relayed in that way. For many who work this is a
shorter form of communication. We will print the month or even two months of birthdays so that persons
will still know how to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Finding news and running down stories for this
publication was not the best use of a really busy office.
I am so proud of our support and encouragement of Tryston’s Eagle Scout Project to install a flag pole here
at the church. The picture that he drew lets us know that the flag will go next to another Eagle Scout
Project here at the church. I truly believe that we can find a way to honor the flag of our country without
worshiping the flag or our country. We have our religious freedom because of this country so having the flag
on our church property shows honor and respect to our country and we worship in the freedom that we
have to celebrate our faith. I should also mention that the sign board that changes letters is in memory of
Anita Houdek, and Dennis is helping with the boy Scouts as they finish the landscaping for the project. A
wonderful light will be installed so that the Flag can stay flying.
I am hopeful that you check out the college graduates we have for this year. Snail mail cards go a long way in
celebrating their accomplishment. I always think it is helpful to remind college graduates that they don’t need
to have it all figured out yet for their life. We just want them to know that we will pray for them in all the
ways that God leads them along this journey of life. I know in my life God allows U Turns. I am excited
about Mason Rossiter and his accomplishment of getting first in skills USA competition and will be going to
Nationals. I am sure we will find some ways to help him and make his finances easier for the trip.
I am so excited for the five confirmands that we have in the church they have worked hard and will be con-
firmed on Mother’s day. They have written a creed that we will say with them. I am so glad for all the par-
ents who have helped and provided supper for us before we studied together. Aliyah Rossiter, Xander
Mitchell, Caileane Thurston, Mike Seirer, Otis Musser. We will confirm them and celebrate their accom-
plishments, and their professions of faith for themselves. This is an awesome milestone in their life I know
that we will want to celebrate this with them. We will have confirmation in both services since four of the
five attend the 11:11 service. See you in worship!

Appreciation for Teachers Thank you to the following individuals who graciously gave their time to teach Sunday school this year at Trinity Heights.
Shipwrecked VBS Our theme for VBS 2018 is Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus. VBS will be July 8-12 from 6-8 pm. Please consider signing up to help with VBS this year. You can sign up at the table set up in the Narthex. There are also registration cards available for anyone wanting to register their children.
The 25th Anniversary Celebration of Trinity
Heights Respite Care was delightfully successful and
enjoyed by attendees. It was a fantastic experience
and many participants gave momentary gifts, assisted
in many ways, volunteered their services, and dis-
played a celebratory spirit. The center pieces and
beautiful table cloths added to the positive and fes-
tive environment. The specialty beverages that
Mojo’s created were fun to drink and the meal, by
Genova’s, was out of this world. Mike Flavin is a
talented auctioneer as many of you would agree.
$12,000.00 was graciously raised for this fundraiser!
Thank you!
I bless you and thank you for the gifts that you have
given over the years to Trinity Heights Respite
Care. Numerous families have received a gift of
time from your donations. Time is a simple and
amazing gift to give.
I feel blessed to be a part of Respite Care and so
fortunate to have a staff of dedicated care-providers.

Food Drive Needs
The Salvation Army has a longer list than usual this
month for food items needed to help persons in our
community. The things they listed are: beef ramen
and the soup cups, rice, spaghetti, elbow macaroni,
cream soups, jelly, canned fruit, hamburger and
tuna helper meals, corn bread mix, ketchup, mus-
tard and mayo. The basket and bins at the church
have not been as full lately and the needs are still as
great, as indicated by the needs above. Please pick
up these items while you are at the store doing your
personal shopping to feed your family. Then bring
them to the church to help others feed their families
also. Thank you for your generosity and God Bless
you. Missions Committee
MISSION
NEWS
NEW HOPE (Homeless) SHELTER
I want to share again on New Hope Shelter, Inc.
Their motto is “Following Christ, Building the Com-
munity.” Their Goal for the residents is for them to
be “reaching higher, going farther, restoring hope.”
Gerald & Phyllis Greene have been volunteers. They
have decided they can no longer do that. They sent
in the following statement to encourage someone
else to step up and fill their slot. “We served at the
homeless shelter as evening volunteers for about 8
years. It was always a time for meeting and visiting
with people in a different time of life, people with
lots of concerns and issues that we didn’t have a
clue, right here in our own community. We always
left the shelter feeling blessed and hopeful that
through some of our conversations we were able to
give someone hope for the future. We feel the shel-
ter is being run very well under the current staff.
Residents have rules and regulations to live by while
they are improving their lives so they can move on
and be productive.” We met people that said they
don’t know where they would be if the shelter was-
n’t there to help them get back on their feet. Our
church is scheduled for 2 evenings, 5-11 pm, about
every 2-3 months. Please talk with Pat & Pam Duffy
or Harlan & Judy Rittgers about becoming part of
THUMC ministry to this agency. It does not have to
be a married couple, but it is better with 2 people.
So find a friend to join you and let us know.
God Bless!
Birthdays and Anniversaries
will be published and available
throughout the church .
May 20th is United Methodist Women Sunday.
Holly Heyroth will be our guest speaker. She
grew up in Derby, Kansas, and has been a
teacher at the Angel House in Tanzania, Africa
for many years. This past year she has been in
the United States visiting various organizations
to raise money for educational supplies for the
Angel House. I heard Holly speak 6 years ago
at a United Methodist Conference at Trinity
Heights. Her message made quite an
impression on me. Holly’s strength of character
and compassion to teach underprivileged
children resonates throughout her presentation.
One wonders what is happening in other
countries especially in Africa. Come listen to
the information and stories Holly will share.
UMW will give Holly a donation when she
returns to the Angel House.
Dear Pastor Donna and Friends at Trinity
Heights,
So many cards. So many hugs. So many
shared tears. Most importantly, so many,
many prayers. We are overwhelmed by the
outpouring of support and care for our
family during Sam’s battle with cancer. What
a blessing to be embraced by a Faith Family
committed to providing such comfort. Sam’s
journey will be a long one and we are
hopeful for full recovery despite the
challenges ahead. Thank you for being apart
of God's plan to surround us with friendship
and love.
With deepest appreciation,
Terry, Ann, Bo, Sam and Myles Davidson
The Garrison family sends many thanks to all
at Trinity Heights. We appreciate the dishes
and help to serve our funeral meal, as well as
memorial contributions. Above all else, we
hold close your thoughts and prayers for us
in our loss of Evelyn.

Thank you Trinity Heights United Methodist Church
for all the support you gave me at the W.O.W. dinner.
I look forward to completing my Eagle Scout project.
