THE VISHWAVIDYALAYA - AN INTRODUCTIONESTABLISHMENT AND OBJECTIVES

The Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya wasestablished in 1902 by the martyr Swami ShraddhanandjiMaharaj. The Vishwavidyalaya was established to providean option of imparting education in the national language,discouraging the English system of education in Indiabased on the education policy of Lord Macaulay. Itaimed at creating a viable environment for studentsfor higher learning and research in the areas of Vedicliterature, Indian philosophy, Indian culture and literatureand modern subjects.

Since its inception, the Arya Samaj has beenadvocating for women education. In order to shapethis dream, the Kanya Gurukula Mahavidyalaya (K.G.M.)Dehradun was established in 1923 by Late AcharyaRamdevji. Later the Kanya Gurukula Mahavidyalaya,Haridwar was also established in 1993 for Post GraduateClasses. The basic task before the Vishwavidyalayais to enhance the physical, moral and intellectual strengthof both girls and boys and thus to make them idealcitizens, by giving them education of ancient and modernsubjects, without any discrimination of caste and creedand untouchability on the pattern of Gurukula systemof education which emphasizes healthy and harmoniousteacher-taught relationship. The Vishwavidyalaya is situatedabout 5 km in south from Haridwar Railway Station.

Recognizing the objectives and services ofthis institution, Government of India in June 1962conferred on it the status of Deemed to be Universityunder UGC Act of 1956, Article 3, for imparting P.G.education in Vedic literature, Sanskrit literature, Indianphilosophy, Hindi literature, English literature, Psychology,Maths and Ancient Indian History Culture & Archaeology.Besides these subjects, a number of modern subjectsl ike Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science andManagement Studies etc. have also been started.In May 2002 National Assessment & AccreditationCouncil (NAAC) visited the Vishwavidyalaya and havingbeen influenced by its natural, unpolluted environment,academic ambience, grand library and museum ofinternational repute, awarded Four Star (****) Statusto it. archaeological museum, which possesses a valuablecollection of coins, paintings, sculptures and arms.

mental strength of the students, Vishwavidyalaya hasa full-fledged physical education department along withthe facilities of outdoor and indoor games. There arealso the facilities like multigym with latest machines,computer lab, sports psychology lab, kinesiology laband departmental library. The Kanya Gurukula Mahavidyalayaprovides facilities of physical education independentlyto the girls.

Department of Physical Education & Sportsorganized North Zone and all India Inter UniversityHockey (Men) championship in the session 2008-09and Vishwavidyalaya Hockey team won both thechampionship trophies. Seven Hockey players of theVishwavidyalaya have been selected for combined universityHockey team.

ADULT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMMEThe Vishwavidyalaya is also running Adult and

COMPUTER CENTRE

U.G.C. aided computer centre was establishedin the Vishwavidyalaya in the academic year 1987-88.This centre is acitively engaged in imparting computereducation to the students besides making the activitiesof the Vishwavidyalaya computerised. PLACEMENT CELL

P l a c e m e n t c e l l i s e s t a b l i s h e d i n t h eVishwavidyalaya. This cell provides only plateform toorganize campus interviews for the students of variouscourses by invit ing reputed companies. However,placement cell has no responsibility to recruit them inthe companies. It is to be mentioned that for the lastseveral years many students got employment in reputedcompanies through the placement cell.

SCHEDULED CASTE/ SCHEDULED TRIBE CELL

The SC/ST cell has been established in theVishwavidyalaya under X plan. The main objectives ofthis cell are to implement the reservation policy ofGovernment of India effectively and provide necessaryassistance to the students belonging to SC/ST categoryin order to resolve their academic and administrativeproblems.

The SC/ST Cell also provides guidance to thestudents belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Minority Categoryfor free Remedial Coaching in the vishwavidyalayasponsored by UGC New Delhi.

EMPLOYMENT AND COUNSELING CENTRE

In order to furnish the students with the informationof various courses, entrance examinations, scholarshipsetc. employment and counseling centre has beenestablished by the employment assistance directorateof the state government. ESSENTIAL RULES FOR STUDENTS

It shall be compulsory for the students to attend

the Yajna/Prarthana and other functions. The uniform

for the boys shall be white kurta-dhoti/white kurta-

payajama/white shirt & trousers, while for the

girls, it shall be white shirt, salwar and dupatta.

For B.P.Ed. students uniform shall be sports kit

& track suit of the Vishwavidyalaya, white P.T.

shoes, and white socks during morning & evening

sports meets. During class hours uniform shall

be gray warm trouser, white shirt, blue blazer/

gray sweter (winter season) and white half shirt,

white trouser, white socks and black shoes (summer

season). Each student must know and show

his one specialization game skill and officiating.

(Note- Track suit and uniform of the Vishwavidyalayashall be worn during Vishwavidyalaya functions only.)

For B.Pharm. students the summer uniform shallbe white shirt & white trouser, black shoes &white socks and the winter uniform shall bewhite shirt & white trouser, black shoes & whitesocks, green blazer & green sweater.

Classes of odd semesters shall be held from 01

August to 20 November and of even semesters

from 01 January to 10 April.

HOW TO APPLYApplication form and Information Brochure for

entrance examination can be obtained from the office ofRegistrar, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar bypaying Rs. 600/- in cash or by sending a demand draft of Rs.650/- to the Registrar, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya,Haridwar. The demand draft should be in favour of"Registrar, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya'' payable atHaridwar.

Candidate will have to deposit a demand draftof Rs. 2000/- (for M.Sc. each subject / B.P.Ed.) orRs. 5000/- (for M.C.A./B.Pharm.) as counseling fee infavour of the Registrar, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalayapayable at Haridwar at the time of counseling.

Fee should be deposited immediately after theadmission granted. Counseling fee shall be adjustedin the admission fee therein. If candidate fails to depositthe fee within the prescribed time, his/her admissionshall be treated as cancelled and the counseling feewill not be refunded. Counseling fee shall be refundedto those candidates who are not granted admission.In case of seats remains vacant after first counseling,second counseling may be conducted only after thedecision of the administration.

CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION

The Admission of the candidate shall be cancelledif the information given by the candidate is foundfalse/incorrect or not fulfilling minimum eligibility atany stage, during or after admission.

ISSUE OF ADMIT CARDS FOR ENTRANCE EXAM

Admit Cards shall be despatched by RegisteredPost. If any candidate does not receive theadmit card before one week of the date ofentrance examination, he/she should contact theRegistrar office with his/her application form number.

In case the candidate does not receive the admit cardor loses it, he/she can get duplicate admit card bypaying Rs. 25/- in cash and submitting a passportsize photograph.Vishwavidyalaya shall not be responsible forany postal delay.

If the information furnished by the candidate isfound false his/her eligibility shall be cancelledeven after issuing the admit card.

USE OF UNFAIR MEANS

If any candidate uses unfair means in the examinationand writes his/her name, roll number or marksany sign inside the answer sheet, his/her resultmay be cancelled.

If the use of unfair means proved at any stageof the admission procedure the entrance examinaitonof the candidate shall be cancelled.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULT

RE-CHECKING/RE-EVALUATION OF ANSWER SHEETS

The O.M.R. answer sheets are evaluatedand scruitinised with extreme care. There is noprovision for re-checking/re-evaluation or supplyof photo copies of answer sheets for inspectionto the candidates. No correspondence in thisregard will be entertained.

JURISDICTION

In case of any doubt regarding rules and regulations,only Hindi version will be valid.

All matters of disputes during and after the admissionshall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction ofHaridwar District Court.

SYLLABI FOR ENTRANCE EXAMINATION(os'k ijh{kk ikB~;e)

M.Sc. (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology &Environmental Science) / M.C.A. / B.P.Ed./B.Pharm.

The entrance examination paper of each subject/course shall consists of 100 objective type questions. Thecandidate shall be required to attempt all the questions. Thesyllabus for entrance exam for each subject/course alongwith distribution of marks , wherever applicable, is as follows:

REAL ANALYSIS 15 Marks

Sequence and series of real numbers, continuousfunction and differentiability of real valued function, R-integrability, compactness and connectedness, Fourierseries.

DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS 10 Marks

Partial Differential, Maxima and Minima of functionof one and two variables.

INTEGRAL CALCULUS 30 Marks

Integration, Definite integrals. Differential Equations:Differential equations of first order, linear differentialequations of higher order with constant coefficients.

ALGEBRA 25 Marks

Groups, Rings, Fields and vector spaces. Algebraof matrix, Rank and inverse of a matrix consistency andsolution of system of linear equations, Eigen valuesand Eigenvectors.

3-D (SOLID GEOMETRY) 10 Marks

Plane and Straight line.
