Sheboygan County early childhood educators earn specialized training thanks to a grant from the Kohler Foundation A grant from the Kohler Foundation allowed area early childhood educa-tors to complete the State of Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards train-ing free of charge. The early childhood educators who participated in this spe-cialized program volunteered to give up their Saturdays this spring in order to complete the program collectively known as the WMELS Training. It was off ered as a hybrid, online course from the University of Wisconsin-Platte-ville in collaboration with Family Connections of Sheboygan. Wisconsin has determined a set of standards that children should reach in their education and development from birth to age four. These standards are curriculum for use by early childhood educators to help young children pre-pare to enter kindergarten. Area early childhood education organizations like Head Start, Early Head Start, and oth-er high-quality childcare centers are integrating the WMELS curriculum into their early learning programs for

children in the birth through age four range. Research shows that quality “early childhood education increases cognitive and achievement scores…in kindergarten,” according to a report titled The Economies of Early Child-hood Investments by the Executive Of-fi ce of the President of the U.S. (2014, December). In addition, the impact of quality early childhood education is not just at the onset of their education, but shows through a child’s entire life. According to the White House study, quality “early childhood education can increase earnings in adulthood by 1.3 to 3.5 percent.” Other benefi ts in-clude socio-emotional and cognitive impacts, as well as a reduction in the amount of remedial education needed. As early childhood educators become highly trained and educated, they are able to provide the high quality early learning that young children need to be successful, not only in school, but into adulthood.

Sheboygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac Goes to Bat for Kohler Athletic CouncilSheboygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac to provide Kohler Athletic Council with new equipment and monetary contribution Sheboygan, June 2017 – She-boygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac is partnering with the Kohler Athletic Council in She-boygan. Sheboygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac has joined forces with the national Chev-rolet Youth Baseball program to provide new equipment and an opportunity for community members to earn donations for their league via a Test Drive fundraiser. “Playing the game of base-ball helps kids develop skills like leadership, cooperation, and sportsmanship while bring-ing families and communities together to show their support,”

said Jeff Romanoski, New Car Manager for Sheboygan Chev-rolet Buick GMC Cadillac. “Sheboygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac and Chevrolet Youth Baseball are proud to participate in a sport that brings so many smiles to kids and fam-ilies in Sheboygan. Chevrolet believes that in play, there are possibilities and supports the spirit of teamwork that baseball instills in its players.” The year 2017 marks Chev-rolet’s Youth Baseball pro-gram’s 12th year, and since its introduction has helped aid lo-cal teams, benefi ting more than 6.7 million young people in

communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work and play. In 2016, more than 1,500 Chev-rolet dealers participated across the country. Sheboygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac will present an equipment kit, which includes useful items such as bags, score books, industrial-strength bat-ting tees, ball buckets and Chev-rolet Youth Baseball T-shirts. In addition, Sheboygan Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac will present a check represent-ing a one-time monetary contri-bution to Kohler Athletic Coun-cil of “up to $1,000.” To date, we have over $500 dollars in

donations. Sponsored leagues across the country will have the chance to earn additional funds as community members take test drives at their partnering dealership to help support the league. In addition to its commitment to youth baseball, Chevrolet is also the Offi cial Vehicle of Ma-jor League Baseball™. “Chevrolet vehicles are de-

signed and built for families, safety and fun, so we encourage young people and their parents to make a Chevrolet the offi cial vehicle of their household,” said Romanoski. For more information about Chevrolet Youth Baseball, please visit www.youthsportswired.com.

Superintendent’s Report (Quynh Trueblood)We continue to focus on a strong fi nish when others get tired near the end, we keep our pacing and even pick it up to cross the fi nish line in classroom and the strategic goals. It boils down to disciplined training and strategy to achieve the results. Year-End Celebration The celebration began with a luncheon hosted by the Kohler School Friends during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Nikki Brigham, Sonja Heins, Beth Tengowski, and Jennifer Kading for their support. Sue Maki honored Laura Drew for initiating and leading the school grounds beautifi cation project. Laura passes the baton to Sue Maki and Alice Penning. We are looking to encourage and support student volunteers. Community service credits can also be awarded to high school students to fulfi ll graduation requirements. Past Superintendent John Egan paid tribute to Jessie Good, Dana Krejcarek, and Dave DeBruin. We wished John Wheeler, Lloyd Bleuel and Nancy Madigan the very best in their future endeavors. There is no other kind of recognition that compares to the kind by one’s peers. Congratulations to Jodi Grossen for being our Teacher of the Year and Lloyd Bleuel for being our Support Staff of the Year. We honored and recognized our teachers for their Years of Service to Kohler Schools: 10 years - Judy Farwig15 years - Mona Salata-LaBudde20 years- Ann Bitter and Deb LaDuke30 years - Jessie Good and Rich TengowskiWe stood proud to review the TOP 10 Best of the Year and looked ahead in the future. We laughed with each other in a laughter yoga session. We thank John Horneck for representing the Board and sending a special message to the faculty and staff.Performance Evaluations It’s been high time for constructive feedback and refl ection using the Danielson Framework for Teaching Practice. Doing this well gets the very best out of our teachers and principals.Elementary Principal’s Report (Lisa Greene)The kids have been out and about to all sorts of amazing places this month: Barlow Planetarium, Heritage Hill, Odyssey Fun Center, The Children’s Museum, Camp Y Coda, …Our Spring Musical was awesome! A

big thank you to Mrs. Kukla for all her amazing work with our elementary students. She puts her heart and soul into these performances and provides our students with an experience that will remain with them for a lifetime! We are so very thankful for her!Through a combined effort with the classroom teachers, Mr. Lautenschlaeger and Mrs. Multer, the 4th and 5th grade students worked very hard on Career research projects. Mr. L. organized a mini career fair in the library on Friday, May 19th. The 4th and 5th grade students presented their Career research project to the JK - Grade 3 students. The presentations and research projects were very impressive!I am so proud to announce that for the second year in a row, Kohler Elementary has earned a Wisconsin Title 1 High Achieving School of Recognition Award from Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. This award celebrates that we have demonstrated high achievement at the school level across content areas and that our achievement gaps are less than 3 percentage points between student groups. I could not be more proud of our teachers and the work they do every day! The Fall Follies Lunch with the Principal was a success! The students and I went to Woodlake Market to buy our lunch, then we had a lovely lunch by the lake and fi nished our adventure off with gelato from The Craverie! We all had so much fun!-----------------------------------------------------Curriculum Report:We are very excited to have selected Pearson My World Social Studies series for our Elementary Social Studies resources. We have also purchased Pearson products for Mr. Poyntinger’s high school Social Studies classes. In analyzing both the elementary and high school resources, we are establishing a strong vertical curriculum alignment. -----------------------------------------------------Assessment Report: All state mandated testing is completed, along with 121 AP tests by the College Board. We are looking to fi eld test a standards- based report card for math at the elementary level next year. We would like to place the major standards on the report card and report out to parents on those specifi c skills to provide parents more specifi c information as to how their child is performing based on the standards for the grade level. If this is well received, we will then convert the rest of the subjects to a standards based report card where parents will see how their child is performing based on the major grade level standards. MS-HS Principal Report (Timothy Brown)This past month has seen the culminating events related to the Strategic Action Plan, with a specifi c focus:Priority II Create Applied Learning Experiences that Engage our Community and Inspire Students to Acquire Valuable Life Skills. This can be demonstrated by our High School Volunteer Day, whereby all students in grades 9-12 spent the day volunteering at a non-profi t organization in Sheboygan County, and our Middle School Workshop Wednesday. Kohler Middle School students spent the morning of May 10th learning from area professionals about a variety of careers. Moreover, senior events like the Elks Club Banquet, Prom, and upcoming events related to graduation all fall under this category.

Priority III Foster a Positive and Safe School Climate that Supports the Social Emotional Learning of Students. The experiences that fall under this are both the middle school climate and culture survey and the high school Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Both of these experiences will help create focus on our character education practices for the 2017-18 school year, of both our individual classroom teachers and our Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports teams.Priority IV Attract, Develop, and Retain Highly Effective Staff . These can be identifi ed as our efforts to provide summative evaluations of all staff during end of year reviews, having robust discussions on teacher scholarships and stipends, and attracting highly effective staff keeping the fi delity of our Blue Ribbon school district. Moreover, the administration has our eye on the 2017-18 school year by working on presession and professional development calendars.Staffi ngBefore the board we offer two excellent candidates. We recognized, early in the hiring process that our mission to attract, retain and retain the fi nest staff possible is not possible over the summer months. We actively searched candidates early in the process and we believe we have found the best fi t for our learning community. Our fi rst position, High School Biology. Our candidate, Dr. Mary Eldridge, truly impressed our interview committee. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Notre Dame in 2004, earned Doctor of Medicine from Medical College of Wisconsin 2008. After which Dr. Eldridge worked as a physician at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York for 2 years and went on to become the owner of her own private practice for 6 years, Lipid Specialists, in Kenosha. She earned her teaching certifi cate from UW-Milwaukee in 2017, and is currently employed as a High School Biology teacher at Nicolet High School. She has found a passion in teaching, wants to move to a smaller town and has fallen in love with Kohler. While we are hiring an early career teacher, we are getting a very high quality candidate with a high ceiling and a depth of practical experience that few can match. While we cannot replace Ms. Jessie Good, we believe we have a candidate with a similarly high ceiling.

Our second position, Middle and High School Visual Arts. Our candidate, Jessica Ott is one of those rare transfer teachers who are moving to our area. As you can see from her resume she earned her education degree in 2006 from UW-LaCrosse. She has been teaching students for the past 8 years, where she has supervised Art Club, Yearbook, worked with the Drama department and, furthermore, been a senior advisor organizing graduation activities. Moreover, what set her apart was her technological sophistication of working with the ADOBE Photoshop suite, which was purchased using proceeds from the Kohler Foundation. We are fortunate to fi nd such an enthusiastic and quality replacement for our outgoing Mr. Wheeler.Certifi cates of HonorThe following middle school students received certifi cates of honor: Samantha Stalzer, Jaden Watson, Isaac Hartman, Donny Sobecki, Owen Multer, Jia Phillips, Jacki Guesneau, Grace Wohlgemuth, and Noah Fibiger. The following high school students received certifi cates of honor: Keith

Baka, Michelle Barczynski, Allison Boerner, Beth Boland, Bridget Bullard, Noelle Candler, Jack Cassady, Sarah Cassidy, Zach Coulis, Leo Dai, Noelia Espinoza, Sean Farrell, Ashlyn Finney, Sierra Fish, Erin Geldreich, Emma Hapeman, Remy Havens, Ben Herold, Evelyn Heun, Fiona Hidri, Madeleine Hoell, Max Holmes, Deanna Jacobs, Elsie Kay, Maggie Kelly, Sam Kohler, Katie Lacerda, Jenna Ladwig, Laura Lee, Cahterine Lee, Hannah Lisiecki, Hannah Neist, Eli Nugent, Grace Pellegrino, Lauren Persewski, Kaleigh Pilgrim, Lorrigan Puls, Kaleigh Roeder, Khloe Rustan, Emily Sass, Kelsey Sbrocco, Zoe Scheuren, Angela Schmitt, Brady Stefanczyk, Ashley Thyes, Evan Udovich, Elly Udovich, John Vallo, Doug Wake, Brooke Warren, Ali Willadsen, Tilydia Xiong, and Courtney Yang.Review of District FinancesThe District continues to manage the estimate for the current year while simultaneously building the budget for the 2017-18 school year. The current year results will stay within budget. As for the 2017-18 budget, the state legislature continues to review the Governor’s budget proposal which calls for an increase in categorical aid by $200 and $204 per pupil in 2017-18 and 2018-19, respectively. More info will be known in June/July. The board will be presented a 2017-18 preliminary budget for approval at the June board meeting. The District is renewing its health insurance plan with Prevea with premiums increasing 8% (no changes to plan parameters or deductibles), while the Delta dental plan is being renewed with rates increasing 3%. This 5000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India and is practiced in various forms around the world. Addressing the UN, Indian Prime Minister Narendra

Modi said: yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfi llment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise, but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature. In that spirit, we invite you to celebrate this ancient tradition on the especially signifi cant day of the Summer Solstice.
