Meditation/Meditación EL MESÍAS QUE DEBE SALVAR

AL MUNDO.. .

E n este III domingo de Cuaresma quisiera invitarte a reflex-ionar sobre la universalidad de la salvación de Dios, es

decir, la salvación que Dios ofrece es universal, es para todos, sin excepción, por tanto, no debemos excluir a nadie. El texto del evangelio nos narra el encuentro que se da entre una mujer-samaritana y Jesús, ¿Y cuál es la ac tud de Jesús ante ese ser pecador, marginado, mal visto? Se le acerca y le pide agua. Y luego inician un interesante dialogo. Un dialogo en el que Jesús termina revelándose como el Mesías; la mujer cambia de vida acoge a Jesús y luego sale a darlo a conocer a los demás. Todo esto fue posible porque Jesús pasa por encima de prejuicios y se acerca a ella. Lo hace porque no le importa su color, condición social, sexo o religión, solo le importa que es una persona. Porque es importante para él, no la excluye, sino que le of-rece la salvación: se ofrece a sí mismo como agua viva. Esto ene que ser significa vo… El amor de Jesús y su habilidad pedagógica conducen a aquella mujer al reconocimiento de su necesidad y de su nostalgia de Dios. En las palabras de Jesús, ella encuentra que hay alguien que la conoce, la ama y desea su bien sobrenatural y eterno; alguien que no la abandona y que le ofrece la vida eterna. Ilu-minada interiormente y saciada por esta agua de Cristo, la Samaritana se convierte en apóstol entusiasta del Evangelio entre los suyos. Quien ha experimentado a Dios no puede quedarse quieto, siente la imperiosa necesidad de anunciarlo.

¡Qué valor debe tener la persona humana a los ojos de Dios para que el Padre haya enviado al Hijo a recatarla! El ser humano es precioso a los ojos de Dios. La experiencia del Éxodo es aleccionadora. Si en empos de Moisés bastaba que este saliera en favor de su pueblo, ¿Qué podremos decir en la Nueva Alianza que Cristo, verdadero Dios y verdadero hombre, ha establecido? El que no perdonó ni a su propio Hijo, antes bien le entrego por todos nosotros, ¿Cómo no nos dará con él graciosa-mente todas las cosas?

Dios nos amó cuando éramos pecadores. Dios salió al encuentro en el pozo de Jacob para darnos el agua viva. Dios está haciendo presente su voluntad salvífica en la Misión Cuaresmal de nuestra parroquia. Es un empo propicio para crecer en la fe y la Misión es una gran oportunidad para hablar de Jesús y para manifestar a nuestros hermanos el plan de salvación de Dios. Es empo para que nos mo vemos con los Hermanos Cheos, a ser como Moises y la Samaritana, ser porta-dores del mensaje para nuestras familias y para toda la Parroquia y contar las cosas maravillosas que el Señor puede hacer cuando tenemos el coraje de dejar de lado nuestra propia jarra de agua y cambiar nuestra vida.

Que Dios bendiga la Mision!!!

TIME TO EXAMINE OUR LIVES. . .

G od has created the human person for happiness. We will always be restless un l we find it. However, the

complete acquisi on of happiness will only be fully realized in eternity. The Samaritan woman in this Sunday's gospel narra-

ve exemplifies the search that everyone has embarked upon. She desires the peace and the happiness that the things of this world cannot provide.

Jesus brilliantly uses the circumstances of the well, the water and her quest as parts of a pedagogy that brings her along an intense per-sonal encounter. Ini ally she relates to Jesus strictly on a human level. A er addressing him a number of mes by calling him "sir," her mind and heart begin to open and she realizes that he is a prophet. At this point, she moves on to even a deeper level. Her soul opens up to the reality that Jesus is the Messiah. "Jesus said to her, 'I who speak to you am he'" (John 4: 26).

Lent is a me for seriously ques oning ourselves about our rela onship with God. Lent provides us a special me to examine our lives. We are all called to conversion. Conversion

means that we drink from the well of divine life, rather than from the swamp of sin. "Jesus said to her, 'Every one who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (John 4: 13‐14).

We must not be surprised that Chris anity essen ally implies a daily, personal struggle. Commitment and ba le go hand in hand. We have to take very seriously the fact that our human nature is wounded by original sin. Discouragement is never an op on for true disciples of Christ. God's loving mercy is always available to us through the sacrament of Confession. It is precisely God's loving willingness to forgive our sins that fills us with the hope of eternal life.

We are called to rediscover the importance and the sense of our Chris an life and witness to the joy of the en-counter with Jesus who changes our life.

Lent is a me to grow in the faith. The Lenten Mission is a great opportunity to talk about Jesus and to manifest our brothers and sisters the God's Plan of Salva on. We must tell of the marvelous things the Lord can do when we have the courage to set aside our own water jar and to change our life.

Let us hear Jesus’ voice through Hermanos Cheos, offer-ing us another kind of water that bring us closer to God. If we drink this water, we will never thirst, because is spring of wa-ter that welling up to eternal life.

MISIONEROS QUE NOS ACOMPAÑARAN

En el año 1902, el hermano José de los Santos, a la edad de 16 años, comenzó su tarea evangelizadora . En su pere-grinar, Dios le llevó al encuentro con José Rodríguez Medi-na, quien a su vez había empezado, por cuenta propia también. En el pueblo de Ciales, procedentes de la zona montañosa, surgen otros dos misioneros quienes también comenzaron alrededor de 1902. El primero es Vicente Avilés González y el segundo Juan González. Estos dos misioneros se encuentran con los anteriores. José de los Santos Morales se constituye como director de los mismos y de esta forma desarrollarán una amplia labor misionera.

Estos misioneros seglares son conocidos en Puerto Rico por los Hermanos Cheos. ¿Por qué? En Puerto Rico a los “José” es muy común apodarlos “Cheo”. Como los dos pri-meros se llamaban José es por eso que se le apoda Cheo. Se le denominan “hermanos” porque estos misioneros al dirigirse a su auditorio usaban frecuentemente el término:“Hermanos”.

Estos cuatro Hermanos y otros que se sumaron luego, llegaron a tener un gran auge. Quisieron organizarse. Así el 31 de enero de 1927, sometieron una petición a S.E. Mons. Edwin V. Byrne, D.D.; Obispo de Ponce. El 10 de febrero del mismo año recibieron contestación afirmativa a su pet-ición con el nombre de Asociación Católica, Apostólica y Romana de San Juan Evangelista. Esta asociación organiza a todos los Hermanos Cheos y a todos los simpatizantes de su obra.

Esta centenaria Congregación Misionera de San Juan Evangelista, conocida por “Hermanos Cheos”, desarrollo sus ci-mientos para evangelizar y propagar la fe. Hoy en este milenio reafirman el com-promiso que cada hermano hizo frente al altar al recibir el crucifijo: predicar el amor de Jesús, proclamar el orgullo de tener

por madre a María Santísima y extender por todas partes las enseñanzas de nuestra Iglesia.

S . J Feast Day: March 19 St. Joseph of Nazareth is a great saint who totally lived by faith – a faith that made him a real hero. He was chosen by our heav-enly Father as the trustworthy guardian and protector of his greatest treasures, Jesus his divine son and Mary Queen of heaven. Jo-seph was Jesus’ foster-father and Mary’s husband. Whatever the Lord wanted him to do, St. Joseph did at once, no matter how diffi-cult it was. He was humble and pure, gentle and wise. Jesus and Mary loved him and obeyed him because God had placed him as the head of their family. What a joy for St. Joseph to live with the Son of God himself. Jesus obeyed him, helped him, and loved him.

S J Fiesta: 19 de marzo San José de Nazaret es un gran santo que vivió totalmente por la fe, una fe que lo convirtió en un verdadero héroe. Fue escogi-do por nuestro Padre celestial como el guardián y protector de sus más grandes teso-ros, Jesús su hijo divino y María Reina del cielo. José era el padre adoptivo de Jesús y el esposo de María. Todo lo que el Señor quería que hiciera, San José lo hizo, sin importar lo difícil que fuera. Era humilde y puro, gentil y sabio. Jesús y María le amaban y le obedecían porque Dios lo había puesto como cabeza de su familia. ¡Qué alegría para San José vivir con el Hijo de Dios mismo! Jesús le obedeció, lo ayudó y lo amó.

These Rites are celebrated to help deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against tempta on, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (RCIA 141). The Rites of Scru ny are meant to uncover, and then heal, all that is weak, defec ve, or sinful in the elects’ hearts and to bring out through repentance all that is upright, strong, and good. Three Scru nies are celebrated in the parish community on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent, a er the homily. The Scripture readings for the Scru nies ordinarily come from Cycle A of the Lec onary: the Gospel story of the Samaritan woman at the well for the 1st Scru ny, the Gospel story of the healing of the man born blind for the 2nd Scru ny, and the Gospel story of the raising of Lazarus for the 3rd Scru ny. The celebra ons of the Scru nies also remind the whole parish community of the need to reflect on their own sins and the need for God’s help.
